About
I grew up in Park Extension, within walking distance of Dickie Moore's Dairy Queen on Jean Talon. Moore had a place on L'Acadie Blvd., and we used to see him driving around in his convertible with a Samoyed and a very dishy wife.
While "studying" at McGill University during the 1960s, I used to attend games at the old Montreal Forum. My fellow undergraduate reprobates and I would scramble up the stairs to get centre-ice spots in the top standing room section, where aged ushers didn't know or care what we were smoking.
I stood out in the cold for six hours to get tickets to the 1975 New Year's Eve game between the Canadiens and Central Red Army. With the exception of the birth of my daughter, the 3-3 tie was the greatest event I've ever seen in my life.
The Canada-U.S. Gold medal game comes close .... but I wasn't there.
I've been a professional journalist since 1974, when I joined the Montreal Star sports department. I've covered the 1976 Olympic Games, the 1979 Expos, pop music and MSO tours of Europe and Asia (classical musicians are WAY more fun to drink with than athletes). I wrote a TV & Radio column for 20 years and, since 2000, have written a City column for The Gazette.
The best part of being a Habs Inside/Out contributor is attending games at the Bell Centre. I think it's a great building: noisy, raucous and packed to the rafters with Montrealers and visitors who live for hockey.
And I still get goosebumps every time Michel Lacroix booms out "Accueillons nos Canadiens ..."
Having seen the Boston Red Sox win two World Series and the Pittsburgh Steelers add a couple Super Bowl titles, I suppose I can die happy ... but not before another Stanley Cup parade. And I'd really like my daughter to see a historic New Year's Eve game.
I like all the players. Covering baseball gives me a profound appreciation of pro athletes who aren't jerks.
My weltanschauung was summarized by the late great Bill Hicks when he said "all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves."
Have a nice day.

There's more wrong here than even stupidity would explain. It's easier to think of the guy as a jerk, and maybe that's all it is. But this behavior is irrational, from the outside at least. I don't know enough about him as a person to have a theory, but this behavior is really out there. There's a John Kordic, Bryan Fogarty, half the NFL edge developing in this story.
Sergei Kostitsyn is not the answer to scoring depth for the Habs. People need to get off this dream, cause honestly it's kind of silly.
Kostitsyn had 2 more points than Dags did last year (23 vs 21), and they played the exact same number of games (53). Gui had 3 (26) while playing in 3 additional games (56), and that's as a checking-line winger. This isn't to say Dags or Gui are great players... cause right now they sure aren't... but putting SK74 in the big show isn't suddenly going to solve world hunger.
oh well...

CJAD SPORTS HAS LEARNED SERGEI KOSTITSYN HAS HAD ANOTHER CHANGE OF HEART
AND AFTER GOING AWOL AGAIN, SUSPENDED AGAIN BY THE HABS,
WILL TRAVEL WITH BULLDOGS TO TEXAS THURSDAY MORNING
AGENT DON MEEHAN CONFIRMS TO CJAD 800 THAT SERGEI HAS ASSURED ALL SIDES THAT HE'S
READY TO STAY WITH HIS TEAM.
NOW SOURCES CLOSE TO THE TEAM ARE CONFIRMED TO BE TRUE THAT SERGEI HAS ENDED HIS 'WILDCAT STRIKE' AND WILL BE ON THE BULLDOGS' FLIGHT TOMORROW MORNING TO FACE THEIR AHL RIVALS IN SAN ANTONIO.
(sorry about the caps, it's a copy/paste)
He's ready to stay with the team until his next breakdown. I'm thinking he was low on drugs and got the jitters. Now that he's had his hit, all is well in his world.
NHLPA's first good decision in years...
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.

SERGIUS KOSTITSUS
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Maybe it's time to begin reconsidering Timmins as head of recruiting. He's really nailed down the "overrated and underachieving headcase" profile though. He could pick one of those out of a lineup of thousands.
I was behind him 100% but you really have to look at the results and it's not real pretty. I realize the KHL came up to bite him in the butt but still.....how long do you want to keep him in there? For a while there SK looked like a steal but now...
Not sure Timmons is the problem. Seems to me that many of our underacheivers were highly considered early on but have not developed in the AHL. Maybe that is why Don Lever was let go.
Franklin the Beagle, 7/1/2002-7/13/2009
Well maybe I am being hard on him a little. He's done a half decent job on picks not in the first round. But the guy has been in since 2002-2003 and look at the current team:
Aside from AKoz, none of the forwards he has drafted (and who are on the team) currently look to be better than 3rd liners. Pax might be but he has yet to show it. Some of his guys in camp looked like they might be decent (Maxwell and White).
He's drafted both goalies and Halak was a steal where he was taken. I think drafting Price at 5 was probably a reach considering the logjam of goalies currently in the league and who they could have drafted in his stead.
On D, OB is his and so was Streit. The current crop might be better but again we are talking potential with no guarantees. I seem to remember McDonaugh being a can't fail prospect and then they flipped him to the Rags.
He has gotten absolutely killed by the KHL. I'm hoping Avtsin, who is saying all the right things now, won't turn into yet another head case.
I guess he hasn't been that bad but certainly not the genius he is made out to be.
I agree on Timmins .... Imagine him and Gainey chatting on who to pick .. and why ... what';s the upside vs down side ... Just look at he O Rielly kid for Colorado .. darfted 30 something in the second round .. 19 years old and it looks like he belongs ... I know we can't get hem all but ever now a againg one would be nice ...
How long do we have tp wait for wait for Leblanc & and the Kisco kid .... are either of them 200 lbs. Prbably not eh Trevor and Bob !
@Axeman: Here's my moto about Eklund: If he's talking about it, it won't happen...
Ron Fournier said on air that he was in a "place" in Mtl with brother AK46 and an unknown third party.... It's just like Lance et Compte. I think Réjean Tremblay had played it soft in his teledrama about hockey players. It's worst in real life.
This guy is totally out of control. I don't care how good he is. Players like that ruins team spirits.
Trade him for Penner.

Haaris Khan
Habs fan for life.
Edmonton won't give up Penner now. Last year they might have but not now and Frolov is out of the doghouse apparently.
What a diva this guy is....give him a ticket to Omsk and a kick in the azz.
Anger Management 101 courses begin in Hamilton tonight at our local community college.
Hope you signed up Sergei.

While I have a hard time believing ANYTHING this guy says, it's like a car accident ... you just can't look away.
Hockybuzz is saying SK and AK for Frolov ...
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Rumor-Both-Kostitsyns-for-Frolov-and-Predators-talking-to-Oilers/1/23801
Swearing and Eklund... please no more of either... from ANYONE
Sure, it is obvious that none of Dags, Pacs, Chips, etc are as good hockey players as Sergei skill wise. But hell, all the boy needs to do is shut up and play hard. And nobody would even think of playing him anywhere else than the big club. What a little idiot.
I'm going to disagree, Timo. he's a big idiot
Well said Timo!

"To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high."
I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.
From what I saw last night D'Agostini shows far more heart and soul and really impressed me by digging deep. He's not a top 6, but then neither is Sergei in my opinion.
Honestly? The HELL with him. Don't let the door hit you on the way out you crybaby.
