Not about hockey ...

It's a cold and sad day in Montreal.

Shout-out to my Gazette colleague, Linda Gyulai, for posting this on Facebook.

What Canada needs is real leadership in the face of such tragedies. Not a vote-pandering politician who caves into the gun lobbyists. This country needs more gun control not less. How many more innocent lives must be lost to this insanity?

This concludes our broadcast. Goodnight.

God bless all men and keep them safe too. Actually most of us aren't killers. How about merely a goddamn Marc Lepine?

thats gotta be the worst coward in canadian history. feel sorry for the families of those bright young women.

If only Marc Lepine were the only man to have ever murdered a woman, that statement would have more validity to it. Unfortunately male violence against women is something that occurs every day. While not all men are violent and not all men hold hatred for women in their hearts, all of us have a responsibility to stand up and condemn violence against women. December 6th is a day for remembrance and action with regards to that subject.

Nice to see something like this posted here, Mike. I did a White Ribbon Campaign at my office, and I was really happy to see just about everybody participating and responding positively with their feedback to the information that was provided. If anybody ever doubts why feminism is still needed in society, it is events like those which occurred twenty years ago--and that still happen every day on a smaller scale--in Montreal.

Thanks.

i was in view of the incident when it happened that fateful day.  I was just up the hill at the UofM for a brass ensemble practice.  On a break, I looked out the window and saw all the police cars arriving on the scene.  Didn't know what was going on at the time (no cell., no internet, no wifi, no blackberry, etc...), but found out later that night once I arrived home.  My girlfriend planned to come listen in on our practice, but decided at the last moment not to come.  Thankfully.

Thanks for posting this, Mike. Montreal is the kind of place where everyone knows someone whose life was broken that day. My heart goes out to all of them.
