Mathias Brunet of La Presse thought he had a scoop. Today Brunet reported the Canadiens had ordered equipment for Marian Hossa.
Players headed to Atlanta: Michael Ryder, Mark Streit (both of whom, like Hossa, scheduled to become UFAs July 1), plus a draft choice or prospect.
Not true.
What happened was hockey gloves looking very much like those worn by the Canadiens were labeled "Hossa" and delivered to the Bell Centre on Tuesday.
New York Rangers wear the same colour gloves as the Canadiens. Rangers have a player named Hossa, Marian's kid brother (and Canadiens' first-round draft choice bust) Marcel.
Oops!
Hey, does anyone have insider information on the size of Alex Tanguay's "equipment"?
A cup was delivered to the Bell Centre ...
Fool.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Wasn't it Brunet who broke the Kovygate story last year? This guy should have his credentials revoked!
Whatever.
A leak is very unprofessional. A cover-up will immediately be placed to help protect the reputation of the company.
What you failed to mention, Mike, is that the original article mentioned "equipment" and the second discussed only gloves, which are the most indistinguishable of equipment.
Oh ya, and for some reason said gloves were ordered in Montreal for a player on the Rangers who didn't accompany the team here because he was recently sent to the minors.
Someone at the company was embarrassed about a confidential information leak and is trying to protect their a$$.
actually, because Hossa is in Hartford and the company that makes his gloves is located in MTL, the team apparently told him they would pick up the gloves for him while they were in town getting shell-shocked at the hands of our Habs.
It wouldn't even make sense for the Habs to order gloves, would it? YOu'd think every NHL team has a bunch of pairs of gloves lying around (as well as pants, socks, jerseys...) The only thing they might need to custom order for him are his helmets.
Wow the Habs ordered equipment for Hossa! Are they ordering equipment for any of the other Oilers?
Hossa... that's what my dad used to call the fat Cartwright brother on Bonanza
(he has a thick Italian accent....my dad that is)
It was said that Bob has been the most active GM in Florida and that he expresses his quest to be for an
" impact " player.
We know Bob and he knows his team,... he is ready to improve the team by getting a player that will play a role in MTL for years to come,... forget about rental, this is not about a playoff run.. its about building a team.
Signed players that he has in mind are, Richards, Jokinen, Tangay, Havlat and you could count Hossa in that group if he shows Gainey to be interested for a long term contract.... forget about Sundin as I think Gainey is just using him to show other GM that he has many other options if they want to play hard to get.
Gainey cant count on the summer and the UFAs to improve the team the way he want and Shanahan and Briere were indications to that state of affair.
Of that group Jokinen is the least likely player to be trade by his present team,... he would also cost more assets to get him than all the other by a large margin.
Fewer assets would be needed to get Hossa,.. fewer still to get the rest of them,.. Richards, Tangay, Havlat.
All those players would make our team a better one,... the best deal cant be guessed at unless we knew of all the pieces pertaining to the completion of each of those possible acquisitions,... all we know nowdays is that Gainey is more like red pepper and less like celeri,.. very much like the team has been lately... and thats a good thing.
Can't see Atlanta trading Hossa for this. If Gainey pulls this one out of his hat, He'll make Chris Angel look like a amateur magician.
Would love to see it happen, though.
Exactement how I feel about it.. monsieur.
Dear Bob, Do something, do something.
Man, I am so sick of all this trade talk that I want BG to do absolutely nothing so I can sit back and watch the heads explode on all these rumourmongers, media pundits, tradeblog hounds and armchair experts.
Guess you have the right name then.
P.S. He has already stated he is trying to do something if it is available.
"Somebody ought to take these guys to school outside the locker room and explain to them how the cap works, how teams have budgets and how many players teams can have on their roster... It's okay to have opinions but it's better to have good information."

Guess you have the right name then.

The Score is reporting that Hossa is improbable for the Thrashers game tonight due to a flu. French flu, maybe?

Hey guys, Check out http://habsexpress.blogspot.com/
it has a lot of cool ideas and trade speculations.
Provides in depth game previews, post game analysis.
Thanks, and enjoy commenting.
Any thoughts on Marty Havlat as being the "impact player" BG wants to bring on board? He's signed through next year at $6m per. Chicago will be sellers and Havlat has flown under the radar of potential targets. Perhaps BG is talking openly about seeking an "impact player" so the stakes rise for Hossa, Sundin, and others - knowing BG he could be up to something less flashy, i.e., Havlat. Kosto, Grabovski and Fischer for Havlat seems good to me.

Too expensive and injury prone, and dont want to trade McDonagh, thought he was untouchable.
I understand that Havlat is damaged goods. It's unlikely that his shoulder would hold up for even one playoff series. I wouldn't put my apples in this cart.
If we get Havlat, swear, I am converting, he,s a loser.
Havlat would be a very risky pickup, but the thing is, I don't see the Hawks giving him up since realistically they need more established players on there roster to help the development of the extremely promising youth they have. They need to develop them and having Havlat only helps.
Also hes made of glass, like really thin glass, not the good, strong glass you hide behind when being robbed, the thin stuff they used to make Brisebois's jaw.

Use this as a refference for his games played and check them, damn shame too because hes such a great player to watch, speed, skill, shot, hes a great talent just a lil' schoolgirl though, no toughness.
This deal makes sense to me, and it smacks of the truth. I like it for a few reasons, first of all, it does not include any of our young and improving assets. Secondly, this off season Montreal has 5 UFAs, (Brisebois and Smolinski are 100% gone, I'd put Ryder at 95% out the door, while Huet and Streit are about 50/50) and 5 RFAs to deal with, thus the trade includes a player with a highly dubious future on the team, and a player who would likely be replaced by a young forward next year even if he was resigned. The 5 RFAs are young (A Kostitsyn, Lapierre, Gorges, O'Byrne, Halak) and the Habs will want to resign all of them. Kostitsyn will be the only one to command big money, but the other four combined will cost perhaps an extra $4m, so there may not be enough room to resign Streit anyway.
Trashknob made an astute observation that this could be a three team deal involving Tanguay and that has a ring of validity to it since it would allow the Habs to get Hossa without affording Ryder the opportunity of biting them in the ass 4 times a year, additionally the Thrashers would get a capable replacement for Hossa and a versatile addtion to their D corps.
We'll see how this one pans out, but put me down as being all for it, I'll be disappointed and mildly surprised if it doesn't happen.
RDS says that the rumour about the gloves is false - http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/246265.html
According to TSN, Marcel Hossa was assigned to the Ranger's AHL affiliate in Hartford on Feb. 16th and the Rangers were in town on the 19th, so they clearly weren't rushing him gloves for the game and I don't see why they wouldn't have mailed them either to NY or Hartford (AHL).
I still think something is afoot...
Could very well be a means by which the teams are covering themselves, since we know Mr. Gainey would not really want to have this leak, on the chance that Hossa does not come hear, it could make the team look foolish. Sather could just be helping. Also it could be the way they say it is, they just wanted to get the gloves here when they came through. Never know.
The story's really put everybody in overdrive though huh, kinda getting ahead of ourselves.
Just idle thinking.
finally...i was waiting for some sort of confirmation.
I think this entire city is mad.. my husband woke me up this morning (on my day off, after I got only 6 hours of sleep) to tell me that Hossa is probably coming to Montreal. The entire city is in a frenzy over rumours and the Rangers game.
I'm not going to get excited about anything until it actually happens!

Satan has seen better days. I don't think he would be the right fit for this team.
