Four Habs Fans, one of the best Canadiens sites around, has a fan's harrowing account of his visit to the Wachovia Centre.

I've been on Michael Ryder's case and I think I've cracked it.
Those weren't paper airplanes he was floating out of the pressbox during Game 4.
They were CV's.
OK. have another drink and start posting.
Looks like these guys borrowed Alec Baldwin's brass balls.
1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."
I think anytime a fan uses the word "we" in the context of the team you have a problem. Fans pay to watch the team. Players are paid to entertain the fans. That is not a "we" relationship, and likely where it all begins to go off the rails.
When a great player comes to the local arena, makes a great play, and gets booed for his efforts then you have to note that the crowd of fans are not objective. In fact it might be argued that they are not so much concerned with the game, skill, and tactics of the game as they are with deep unresolved personal issues.
Do not ask for whom the bell tolls...
a great habs rap. in french http://youtube.com/watch?v=eyI-kY5SMII&feature=bz303
Thats brave walking around Philly after a loss wearing a Habs jersey.
I've been to games in San Jose(cheering Habs and Canucks) and the fans there are pretty funny. I almost got into a fight with one guy though but it was probably my fault more than anything lol
Vancouver isn't any better though. I used to get picked on when I went to games as a kid wearing my Habs gear. I'm Indo-Canadian and I was getting Anti-Quebec racist slurs.. funny stuff lol.
i'm seeing lots of habs jerseys around vancouver these days.
I've noticed Habs car flags too, first time I've ever seen those here in Vancouver.
I was in Philly for the game and got booed in the halls and seats, mildly assaulted a few times (one guy tried to knock the camera out of my hand), and pelted with fries, garbage and various stuff during the length of the game. Someone threw something at our windshield when we were crossing the bridge from Jersey (Quebec plates are enough). Not the least dangerous thing to do. We mentioned this to a cop, along with the plate numbers, who laughed and said there was nothing he could do. The guy behind me hit me in the head with his boomsticks every time philly scored, and the fans all around us chanted aaaaaa****hole at us every chance they got.
I amused myself by asking them where their goaltender and top playoff scorer were from ever time folks brought out the anti-French/-Quebec sentiments, which was often.
Lots of Philly fans were nice folks, and just having fun playing the role of being antagonistic. They'd boo us, and then as soon as we talked to them, they'd be friendly. Some real pr**ks in the crowd too, though. One Habs fan got hit square in the face and addressed with racist slurs, so we ended up getting an escort out of the building with a bunch of other habs fans when the game was over.
Lets win 3 in a row and Make them cry.
Wow. Their mothers must be proud of them. (The Philly fans, I mean)

Is it just me or is that Ferris Bueller working the cell phone camera?
Seems like the fans are a little more dignified than the players in Philly!
As a well travelled Habs fan I'd like to point out that this is sadly endemic to the working class so called 'hockey markets' of the Northeast. For example I've been in Buffalo for several playoff games and had basically the same thing happen to me; the crowd chanting U.S.A., an unprovoked confrontation with a loutish inebriated Sabres fan in the john, beer dowsings, and the proverbial "Go back to Canada". Same story in Boston, the Garden in NY, etc etc...
Conversely, I've been to Anaheim, L.A., Miami, and Tampa, and other than some good natured ribbing I had a fantastic time in each rink. And hey, the weather is much better...
One more thing... 'vengeance'??? What the hell are they avenging?
I asked the same question about vengeance, and all I got was that they did really badly last year. Maybe they're pissed about the suspensions, too? The anti-ref, nhl-is-out-to-get-us mentality has reached a fever pitch in the city of brotherly love. It is aided, in no small part, by the uninformed amateur rants that pass for sports journalism in that city.
You mean the "oh, the Flyers are in the playoffs, I guess we'll start writing about them" mentality... Cause you know, after the Eagles, Sixers, and Phillies, they are really just the weak sister...
Well I have family in Lancaster.Good people....Mostly Pittsburgh fans. But in all my visits to Philly I hated it there.Tough city.I wonder what reception our Habs friend would have received had Montreal won:) Not all Americans are idiots. We certainty have more than a few in almost any city even here in Canada.
Never before have I ever wished for a comeback victory as I am now!
If for no other reason than to simply break those fans hearts!
Still you have to give credit for the size of the B... on the cameraman and his friend, you wont catch me at a home game in philly. I tend to speak my mind, and I don't think they'd appreciate my laugh/heckle!
Go Habs Go
To use an African-American vernacular, I feel ya dawg! How swwet it would be to read the articles in the Philly papers after game 7 wondering about what went wrong.
I had a client in my shop today(a lawyer from philly, and his wife), and we had an intelligent, civil conversation. Their not all like the fools that we saw on the tape. Could you imagine acting in such a manner, after a win no less...thank God we hadn't won that game, I'm sure the two fans would be dead ! I wish the fans in Montreal wouldn't boo the US anthem...lead by example.
Go Habs Go
I guess that Liberty bell they've got in Philly isn't the only thing that's cracked...
Anyone want to post that link on Eklund's site?
Okay, the thing is this....
The criteria that sets apart a win and a loss in the game of hockey is the number of goals scored. Everything else, frankly, is B.S.
As much as I love reading and listening to every article and every broadcaster wax poetic about the fine points of the Habs superior qualities after a win, (and I really do) the fact remains that it is just the number of goals that decides the outcome.
This earth shattering epiphany hit me while reading the Philadelphia media's take on the series, as they gas on and on about the depth, the camaraderie, the out-coaching, the blah, blah, blah of that wildly over-rated team that is the Flyers.
The fact is, the Habs have been out-scored 14 to 10 over the course of 4 games while out playing, out skating, and completely out-classing Philadelphia.
4 GOALS!!!
We've watched the Habs score that many in one period on a few occasions this year.
If just a small handful of posts, crossbars and shots which whistled wide by an inch or two had happened to go in, we would be reading all about the depth, the camaraderie, the out-coaching etc. of the Canadiens.
Let's get real! If the Habs step it up just a wee bit in front of Biron, they'll beat this group of whining, persecution complexed group of thugs.
One win on Saturday.
One win in Philly on Sunday to teach the bastards a lesson.
And one victory back home to grind their noses in it.
Not much to ask, no?
Go Habs Go! I believe...
Yeah man,
Christopher Pennington (the Go Habs Go theme song guy)
Loved the drunken female spewing off about the Capitals. Didn't know who was playing and didn't care. Just a chance to act like an obnoxious idiot. Class, pure class. But, I'm sure every city's got them.
GO HABS.
Ugly Americans indeed, absolutely disgusting.
Be fair Herb. For every knuckleheand like that in the Lower 48, there are at least two of us with our heads screwed on. Brian
Missed you mate...cheers.
Have a big one ahead of us tomorrow night gang, rest up!!!! I'm going to grab a bottle of Drambuie and go out like a gentleman. (IF NEED TO, BUT I DON'T THINK SO!!!) NO ONE, AND I MEAN, NO ONE COMES INTO OUR HOUSE AND PUSHES US AROUND!!!
You're damn straight....and no self respecting male on our team will let them even pee in our territory far less win...and I've placed a bet in Vegas for the Habs to win the cup...odds are 8 to 1...comon boys....make me a very happy fan.
What do you think about Big Brown tomorrow in the Derby?
I didn't mean that as a slag on Americans in general, although in retrospect I can see how it looked that way. The US can use more people like you, even though you're a republican ;)
agreed.
hope you and yeats(delete) don't think you two are examples of yanks with their heads screwed on right. :)
