Even though I've never been there, I don't like the city of Dallas.
This admittedly unreasonable antipathy is based on events that transpired in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963. I was an impressionable 10th-grader, and it stuck with me.
The assassination of Robert Kennedy may have been the greater tragedy, but I harbour no enduring ill feelings about Los Angeles. Maybe it was those Dallas cops in white Stetsons, escorting Oswald out to a venue where Ruby could shoot him.
But enough about politics.
I don't like the Dallas Cowboys.
I don't like the Dallas Mavericks.
I respect Brenden Morrow, Marty Turco and Sergei Zubov, but I don't like the Dallas Stars.
I want Detroit to win this series and take their dazzling skills to the Stanley Cup final.
I also wanted the Canadiens to beat Philadelphia. And as someone – either St. Thomas Aquinas or Mick Jagger – observed, you can't always get what you want.
But if you tune in TSN (yay!) at 8 tonight, you might get what you need: a decent Game 3 in the Western Conference final.
That's right, blame the city of Dallas for JFK's assassination. Lets also blame Israelites then for all the crap in the middle east. Hey! Lets blame Memphis for MLK's death and why not New York City for Malcolm X while we're at it. Lets go HUGE then and blame Sarajevo for World War I.
I think a greater tragedy is how easily people are influenced.
That said, I don't like the Stars either. I've hated that franchise since they ousted the Oilers back in 1991 from the conference final.
But, I hate Detroit even more and I think it's because I know they're going to easily win the Stanley Cup and I'm jealous.
It's hard to believe that a team like the Wings that are clicking on all cylinders were having a tough time selling tickets coming into the playoffs.
The Detroit fans don't know how good they've got it.
How much do you thing it would cost the Habs to pry away the Wings' head of European scouting?

It is not only a question of scouting... I think Habs scouting is reasonably good... So you scout all these uncut gems out of europe? Who do you trust to develop them - Carbonneau?
Ahh, the familiar refrain.
Habs scouting seems to be fine to me as well.
The Detroit economy is terrible according to some Wing fans on other boards. Also, the lower bowl tickets are usually bought out by Corporate businesses who buy, but don't even go.
So there are two good reasons.
Great game by Mike Ribiero tonight; -3 and absent on the scoresheet. I can't even believe anyone's upset we lost this guy. *yawn*
He did get one less point than Kovalev this season, he's only 28, and he's only paid like 2.8M to Kovy's 4.5M.
And Detroit could make anyone look bad.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
And he's soft in the playoffs, don't forget that.
So, every time I turn on a Red Wings game, I feel like I'm watching a Canada vs Denmark game or something... is that normal?
Come on guys. Dallas in 7.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Can Pittsburgh beat these guys?
I don't think any other team besides the Pens would have kept things interesting. They may not beat em but at least it'll be a decent series.
not a chance. maybe one game at mellon... maybe.
My prediction is: Wings in 5. I cant see Pittsburgh losing all 4 in a row. But, damn the Red Wings are amazing.
1 on 4 and Zetterberg beats them and feads Datsyuk. Unbelievably easy.
Datsyuk hat trick?
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Healy nails it: Detroit has run a hockey clinic.
That I've never seen: Chelios ices the puck, it rims around and comes back out to a Red Wing in the neutral zone. And Morrow is back out hitting. What a warrior!
That Morrow replay: OUCH!
I think I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw the replay of that...
Richards is five feet offside and they boo the call.
Memo to Bettman: More sun-belt franchises. They're great for hockey.
Well, this is going to be like pulling the wings off flies. I have to get some sleep. Good night all. I'll check in tomorrow night for another premo tilt!
I'd love to see him with the Canadiens, but can you imagine Sundin in Detroit?
Yumpin' yiminy, they'd go 82-0.
I think Sundin would be great for the Habs too... But man would that be a burn to "Leafs Nation." They would hate his guts big time.
It'd be a great fit, but I don't think he would do it.

My passive contempt toward Sundin (merely based on his image as the top-guy of the evil Maple Leafs) is probably surpassed by my excitement in imagining what would be possible with Sundin on the Habs roster.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
Man, Detroit seems unstoppable...
They better murder Pittsburgh in the final after all this!!!

Now that Ribs has become, dare I say, one of the suckful, what gems will he have for the French press in Montreal tomorrow morning?
He'll say he likes Dealey Plaza more than Crescent Street.
The fact that the French pres still hounds him, makes me laugh. He cant escape it! haha
I think that little bastard courts it!
