Danick Paquette.

Plays RW for the Lewiston Maineacs of the Q. Nice size: six-footer, 209 pounds. Turns 18 next month.

I heard Paquette talked up on CKAC as someone the Canadiens should think about in the draft next week.

He was Lewiston's first choice, 11th overall in the 2006 Q draft.

Paquette scored 29 goals, added 13 assists and was plus-8 this season. Here's the stat that caught my eye: 213 PiM.

A tough kid.

Could use a few of those.

Hey all,

I'll be undergoing spinal surgery tomorrow morning as a result of a fall this winter that has severely limited my range of motion as well as causing me pain and discomfort (I know some of you will be happy to hear this :) )

To that effect I will most likely not be corresponding on the site for at least a few days. Here's wishing everyone a good summer and an active UFA and draft period for our beloved Habs.

Happy to hear this??? no.....only if your fingers were broken lol. Best of luck Teach.

Take good care!

1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat
2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

Good luck with the surgery.

Hope you're back on your feet in no time!

Alex Ovechkin will be introducing his new line of clothes in the center of the universe tonight..... http://blog.washingtonpost.com/capitalsinsider/

I doubt they'll draft this guy, as Timmins stated, the habs want a big NA CENTER in the draft. Maybe if hes still available in the later rounds. Timmins and Co. have for the last couple of years shown that they won't give in to the Quebec influence and draft from the Q just because fans want them to.

The Dallas Stars have eight "D" men signed already even with Mat Nordstroms retirement so i wouldn't be surprised if they shop 35 year old Phillippe Boucher (RD) and his big shot and good size and injury prone contract (2.5 million) around and i am sure the La Presse will be promoting his acquisition.

sidhu's picture

By my count they have 5 defensemen signed to NHL contracts and 3 signed to two-way contracts. These numbers don't include Norstrom.

Here's the key comment from the NHL.com article:

“He’s got 30 goals, a couple hundred penalty minutes; nobody wants to go near this guy,” said Chris Bordeleau, Central Scouting’s QMJHL scout. “He’s not a great skater, but he works hard.”

NOT A GREAT SKATER.

I can't see Timmons being a fan of this guy, not in the first 2 rounds anyway...

Anybody know why i can't access the main page anymore???? Please any techies out there help!!! This is the message I get........Everything under the category Name is a link and is underlined. The first three have pictures of folders and the postinfo.html one has a picture of a page.

Hmm, I got that for about a day or so...I have not had that problem for a while though, Mr. Krob.

two fore - I see your point and i canceled my hockey news last summer mostly cuz of clutter as i am a save freak. For the past years i've had the Central , ISS and the Hockey News at draft day and the hockey news does vary quiet a bit , some good some bad , mostly after 10/15 picks so to stop this confusion as i'm an old sod i'll only use Central and ISS this year and may refer to the Hockey News occasionally. The Hockey News Magazine on the entry draft picks is a good read but may tend to lean towards the U.S. players a bit. The week of the entry draft may be the high-lite of the summer if the talk and rumours come to life as the free agent list is weak and dwindling (Russia , trades etc.) and may only be for tweaking at a low price.

There certainly seems to be a wide discrepancy with player evaluations and rankings when it comes to Central, International, and Hockey News scouting lists. As NM49 notes, Central has Paquette listed in the mid 40's while the Hockey News doesn't even have him in their top 100. Makes you wonder.

Another big forward who might be around late in the first round is Joe Colborne. He is a 6'5 winger, and according to HF, is a

"Decent skater but best asset apart from his size is his on ice vision and playmaking skills. He can finish and does possess an above average shot but he is a self-admitted pass-first player. Loves to control the puck on along the boards on the power play and find his teammates for gift goals."

The knock is he just had a growth spurt and has yet to figure out how to use his body to his full advantage.

This guy sounds like he is worth looking into. Sakter, can pass, can work the boards, size -

Well, we seem to have a knack with some players (Komisarek, OByrne) and maybe not with others (Fisher)

Still, 2 out of 3 is pretty good.

If you're only scoring 42 points in the QMJHL, there's not much hope for an offensive career in the NHL. Besides, big bruising power forwards just don't come from the QMJHL, we tried that with Latendresse.

I'd rather find a winger from one of the superior junior leagues or Europe. And pick the quick, shifty forwards from Quebec – it's what we make best here. That and goalies, of course.

Topham - Good post and a good point about the QMJHL but that all started when the Government of Quebec got involved decades ago with their hockey technicians in minor hockey with there skating and skill preference and made it very difficult for a big guy to develop. I never considered Lats (size only) a power forward in junior but rather an offensive machine in "spurts" or when he wanted to be and he only worked on that and it shows now. If the Habs are looking at Paquette it's as a role player and his offence will not deter them.

latendresse had better stats than him and couldn't skate...and darcy tucker was a huge point-producer in junior (even in the AHL)...this guy merits a 3rd round pick max (and that's hoping we score a gem)...maybe he's more of a sean avery type player.

Yanick Paquette is ranked 45th in the final rankings and 41st at mid term by central scouting so with the non North American drafts he should be around at the Habs 2nd pick #55 but Minnesota drafts before us and they have a good book on the QMJHL. Now that's if everything goes as planned which it never does.

Rumour has it that the Bluejackets are in serious talks with the Pens about their pending UFA's and a possible trade may be pending if they can get those players under contract before July 1st.... http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2008/06/let_the_fun_begin.shtml

Big Bird's picture

I agree we need some size but let's draft smartly. Please...

Past tremendous Montreal 1st round draft picks such as the impending hall of famer Lindsay Vallis, the Cam Neely like Turner Stevenson, bruising Scott Stevens game-breaker like Brent Bilodeau, second reincarnation of Big Bird named David Wilkie, bruising defensive stalwart Brad Brown and John Ferguson like power forward Terry Ryan.

The one thing that we have now that we didn't have during that era was a fellow by the name of Trevor Timmins and our coaching staff.
