Malone still on the Market.

Oddly enough, Cap Raeder is now in current NHL news... he's rumored as part of the future Lightning's coaching staff (presumably their new goalie coach) under Mullet-man:

Rick Tocchet and Wes Walz are other rumored assistants.

Tocchet, eh? Florida has pretty good Indian casinos from what I hear....

Trevor Timmons will have Gui Latendresse working with a power skating coach on an intensive program this summer > follow "sports" link to "Canadiens".... http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.cyberpres...

La Presse racist columnist Rejean Tremblay spouts sour grapes over Carbo not winning the Adam's Trophy and blames the Toronto media's politics for Boudreau capturing the prize , of course Rejean could never be accused of such a thing but their may be a little truth to his tears (Google translation)..... http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.cyberpres...

Boone I never thought Shakespeare lines would be recited on a hockey website. I guess it's true what they say about Habs fans being the most educated hockey fans in the world...

Cliff Fletcher is poised to tear up laffs roster... http://www.torontosun.com/Sports/Hockey/2008/06/14/5875571-sun.html

NM49 - Fletcher doesn't impress me that much and as far as the Laffs are concerned the circus is still in town. Peanuts, popcorn, candy apples. Speaking of candy asses, Fletcher had his chance to deal with the Muskoka Five back in February but didn't have the guts to do so. Only time will tell if he does now.

Sundin - let him go, he will symbolically represent the break with the past.
Kubina - there is a trade window for him this summer, utilize it.
McCabe - Islanders hold most of the cards, get what you can and move on
Tucker - this guy's a weasel although not a quitter like his brother-in-law. Put the squeeze on him by letting him have some input into where he can be traded. If he refuses, put him in the pressbox and eat the cap space until he changes his mind. Same applies to McCabe. Will give new meaning to the term 'non movement clause'.
Kaberle - the Lousy Leafs would be foolish to trade this guy - but if they do, then Montreal will be first in line. He can play alongside Hamrlik. We have lots of young guys that Toronto would be interested in.

I know that I tend to be cautious and too realistic with my outlook on the Habs. BUT, in my dream of dreams, Selanne and Sundin both sign on for one year and we trade for Kaberle. IF Price holds up, we can make a real run at the Cup in our centennial year. Roll the dice and see what happens. Even if we fail, we still have all our pieces in place and lots of cap room to re-sign our building blocks. All it would cost us is a ton of 2008-09 money and some young players (O'Byrne, Grabovski, Fischer or Valentenko ) to land Kaberle. Go for it Bob.

Well in my opinion, Fletcher can do only so much with what he has and the no trade clauses that Ferguson gave everyone. If I remember correctly, 4 of the 5 players have no trade clauses. Tat would be a reason why he didn't trade them. Sundin exercised his right to use it.

As for Toronto as a whole, they are not only a few players away. They need to build and it starts with drafting. They are empty in the minors and the players that were supposed to be good, are turning out to be less then ordinary.

As for your chaices in Montreal... Yes, Sundin and Selanne would be great, but at what cost. Will Selanne start playing in September or in January. Will Sundin want to play in Montreal?? Remember, the deal was done for Montreal and he is the one that axed it with his no-trade clause...

It would be nice to have Sundin in Montreal but we have planty of players ready to mark their territory and we will have a pretty good team ext season. Now, lets hope we sign a few players...

Corporate - True enough, but my point is that a no trade clause doesn't necessarily mean you can't/won't be traded. It's happened before. Fletcher wasn't willing to do what needed to be done to get rid of these guys. He wouldn't play hardball and do the dirty work. And truth be known, maybe the Toronto hockey market wouldn't have been able to stomach what really needed to be done.

I believe that we are now starting to see the frustration from giving out these no trade clauses. No one had really used these clauses until now. Except for a few players. If GM's continue to give them out, it will happen more and more...

Yes, I do agree with you open your point that it doesn't mean the player shouldn't get traded. But it was a matter of time before someone actually stuck to the contract they sign...

I just noticed that your profile lists Jean Beliveau as your favourite player of all time. That certainly moves you up the corporate hockey ladder in my books!

Thanks... Well I just find, he is THE Gentleman for hockey. Never says anything negative and if he does it is constructive. How many players nowadays can you say do that..

I know I am only 28 but I know greatness when I see it...

corporate - Good post and if i can remember correctly Sundin's excuse was that he didn't believe in the rental aspect at the trade deadline and not the destination. We do have a good team with some holes but it wouldn't hurt to be better.

Does anyone have any idea as to what Shayne Corson is doing these days? He was one of my favorite Habs and I give him respect for going public about his anxiety issues.

UPDATE: from Wiki, "[Corson] opened a restaurant in 2007 with partner Armando Russo in the Distillery District of Toronto, called Tappo Wine Bar & Restaurant." http://www.tappo.ca/

Two Fore - Your all pumped up today , i also like Kaberle but i think he's an untouchable as they got to have somebody to build around besides Toskala but that Kubina window may be exercised (money issue) though he played very well in the 2nd half as I'm sure other teams noticed. My turn to be off the wall , if Sundin isn't coming back i would trade Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky as they will be lame without Sundin and there size may bring in to lot plus the Russian factor. Mats holds the cards and that's their problem and i hope they screw up and I'm sure they will. IMO Fletcher didn't do that bad at the deadline with all those no trade clauses and i would worry about our performance first. Cautious you tend to be but realistic is questionable as you always seem to think our roster will stay in tack which in the New NHL is unrealistic as other teams have found out. Happy motoring and on to the Open.

Matt Carkner is actually Terry Carkner's cousin.
Although the Carkners both played with the Brockville Braves..as did Larry Robinson and the immortal Todd Gill.

New York Islanders look forward to draft and may trade down 5th pick overall , article in Newsday.com "the can't miss draft" by Greg Logan... http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/hockey/islanders/blog/

To note, in our active we have a:

200 Sergei Kostitsyn
216 Michael Ryder
262 Mark Streit
271 Jaroslav Halak

I'd be fine passing up a few 2nd or 3rd rounders if we can keep up digging talent like that. ;)
