Penalties killed their momentum

1P 5:30:

They must lead the league in that stupid penalty

1P 5:34:

That Boston D is brutal

1P 5:44:

First sustained Boston pressure. Spatch is labouring out there.

Kovalchuk:

To New Jersey. Wow!

1P 6:37:

Hah! Last home win was in Fenway Park

1P 7:00:

Puck bouncing all over. Bad ice?

1P Break:

O'B and Chara? I don't like that match-up

1P 8:50:

Great PK, but playing with fire.

1P 10:20:

Gorges makes a great play on the much larger Blake Wheeler

1P 10:47:

Another penalty. Not good.

1P Break:

I thought the Bruins would come out thumping. They have no hits, Canadiens have three

1P 11:40:

Has Satan played for every team but the Canadiens?

1P 13:30:

Ryder comes close. Boosting trade value?

1P 14:30:

Bruins look lousy

1P 15:08:

Nice work by Maxwell

1P 16:30:

Pouliot a question mark? Why?

1P 17:00:

Crap Boston PP. But Halak made a big save

1P 17:40:

The one time Gomez should have passed ...

1P 18:10:

Markov, master passer, springs Sergei

1P 19:14:

Chara flattens Gionta, who trips him

1P 19:45:

Boston D turns it over, but then Halak has to make a save. And some leather-lungs is bellowing the f-word

Mis-O-Jeu:

How much does it pay that Bergeron does it with no voice?

Starters:

Pleks, Sergei, Moen against Bergeron, Sturm, Recchi

Boone reverse jinx:

Boston HAS TO win. It's their Game of the Season

Demers on Sergei:

Patience. If traded, he's the kind of player who'll become a star somewhere else.

Bouchard on Kovalchuk:

Not sure you build a franchise around this guy. Agreed. Not as good as Ovechkin. Not as good as Crosby. Not as good, Bouchard says, as Zach Parise or Pavel Datsyuk.

Lucic:

First start against the Canadiens this season

Tim Thomas:

NOT starting a crucial game. Hmmmmmmm

Defence pairings:

Markov-O'B, Spacek-Hamrlik, Gorges-Gill. For me, these are the best of the season to date ... although I might prefer Mara to Gill.

Komisarek:

Some are saying the injury goes back to the Lucic Annihilation. If so, Pierre McGuire asked on Melnick's show today, did the Leafs do their homework before signing him long-term for big money?

The makings of a classic?:

HUGE game for both teams

Kovalchuk:

In a struggling market, how do they trade their franchise player?

Claude Julien:

How many Ls before they start greasing the gang-plank?

Degrees of desperation:

The Bruins have lost eight in a row. Vancouver is next for them. Boston REALLY needs this one.

So, I think Darche stays with the big team?

Darche is a football player playing hockey. He slammed Chara up against the boards once. Not too many people can move Chara-to say the least.Darche gets in the goalies face, and plays great down low. What really is good is he plays within himself-he's not a dipsy doodler;he's a throwback to the type of hockey Claude Provost played.

And he is faster than people give him credit for.

You can't teach size.

Hey I was wondering, I'm I the only one who thought this team came out flat tonight, I know they rallied but I still thought they were not ready to compete at first. IMO All 3 penalties in the first were just. I'm not saying I thought it was an well officiated game but some of that was our flat start,

It seems they ALWAYS come out flat.I am not exagerrating. This must be blamed squarely on the coaching staff or head coach. It is inexcusable at the NHL level to be outshot by wide margins, and put all this pressure on the goalie.

nuff said

We were outshot 30-10 before our 1st goal, late in the 2nd,so yes.

topher5468's picture

Thanks, some one posted to me that I need to watch the game with my eyes open, I thought I was.

100HABS's picture

Yea, I know what you mean. Sometimes it's hard to concentrate. I smoked one, too.

petrov14's picture

Some have said by the Olympic break we will know where we stand. But my guess is at that time the water will be just as murky.

Well, I made it out of the TD Garden alive after wearing a Habs jersey and cap.

I am an American citizen.  I find there to be some odd logic at play with a number of the Bruins fans who wave the star spangled banner and yell "Go Home!" to Habs fans in the crowd.

Can we take Patrice Bergeron with us?  How about Marc Savard?  Michael Ryder?

The best was the guy who was on the jumbotron, waved the flag and then pointed to his (Vancouver-born) Lucic name on the back of his jersey.

Awesome stuff.

There really are a bunch of savages in there.  The in-game presentation tends to encourage the savagery too - showing replays of fans dumping beers over other fans heads (yes, for real).

Do they invite the urinating, too?

At least they don't boo individual players or opposing teams national anthems

MikeMcLaren's picture

Fans in the Bell Centre should be ashamed when they boo any anthem.  They too act like animals when they do that.  Especially seeing as a good chunk of the Habs is American.

Bob Barker's picture

he makes that *** look easy.

SeriousFan09's picture

Plenty, a beauty that deserves recognition. Although Pouliot or Markov should've also been in the 1st 3 shooters as well, Pleks record is abysmal.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

I replied to your post on the other thread, but yes.

I think Trotter should get another look. Send Maxwell back down. Trotter has 25 G 28 A in 49 GP this season and scored 13 G 9 A in 15 GP in January. He's only 23 so he definitely has the potential to become a solid NHLer.

showey47's picture

I was surprised maxwell got the call up ahead of trotter.

Flabadagub's picture

What's the deal with that?

He can't be any worse. Do it up

24 Cups's picture

Scoreboard - Ottawa and Tampa win, the Rangers and the Islanders lose.

I'm not a fan of scoreboard watching unless it's for 1st place. If you have to hope for crappy teams to lose just to make it,do you really deserve it?

24 Cups's picture

Jeff - I'm an old fart from the glory days so I've had to adjust my expectations lately so I can still follow my team and enjoy this site:-)

keepthefaith's picture

Sorry for ruining the Love-in.  This site is worse than North Korea!

I liked our usual players tonight, but really like O'Byrnes play lately.

He is really coming around.

Nice to see.

agreed.  A little sketchy tonight, but of late, solid.  notice how the past couple of games how he will come off the right side of the offensive blue line and level the other team's winger trying to pick the puck off the boards?

100HABS's picture

I noticed he got away with it against Vancouver and twice tonight. He's gotta be careful, though, IMO the other guy didn't touch the puck 2 out of those 3 times that I saw. He's lucky he didn't get called for interference on any of those three.

Oh yeah, now if we just had a couple more guys hitting like that.

PureGuava's picture

Carey who?

GP HABS FAN's picture

Price i think :)

Bob Barker's picture

Yeah his name is Carey Price. You must be new. Welcome.

Did Darsche get a star, because he was directly responsible for both our goals, and was our best(only?)hitting forward.

I thought Lappierre sparked us when he tried to hit Chara in the 2nd, then almost cost us late in the 3rd.

Lapierre couldn't win a one on one battle along the boards if his life depended on it.I saw him up close in street clothes and he's puny;my first thought was,i could take him-and i'm 54!!!!

RiverviewCanadien's picture

Gomez set the plays in both cases. He deserved it just as much, fact is, he gets the points.

Jamming the d-man in front of the goalie on the 1st goal, and screening on the 2nd goal wasn't just as important??. The lack of front of the net presence has been our biggest offensive problem the last few years. It was great to see that.Especially from a career minor leaguer. Hopefully JM has the boys take their cue from him

RiverviewCanadien's picture

Whoa BIGJCC...

Sorry you are missing the point, I think Darche WAS deserving of a star, but that Scott did just as much of an important job as he did, but Gomez gets the points, that is why he gets the star.

Ok,I hear ya. IMO Darsche was our best all around forward, followed by Gionta. But u r right, the points usually get the recognition

24 Cups's picture

Maybe, but his effort in the shoot-out was pitiful.  Pleks was even worse.

They both need to watch some Brad Richards videos.

RiverviewCanadien's picture

Pleks was certainly not as his best the entire game. Gomez was weak in the shootout, but like I said, he SET the plays (he is a center, a playmaker that makes points from assists, not goals). I really thought Sergei should have been there and mabye D'Ags (great shot), could have been a real confidence boost for those guys.

24 Cups's picture

RC - Speaking of Pleks, I thought there should have been a penalty against Morris near the end of overtime after the Habs killed off a penalty.  Pleks came up along the boards and cut into the middle.  I don't indulge in ref bitching as it's a waste of time.  I also felt that most of our penalties were deserved.  All I'm asking is that it work both ways.

BTW, Gill was unreal on that last PK.  I think he was out there for the whole damn thing with Pleks and Gorges.  He's probably fast asleep by now from fatigue and exhaustion!

RiverviewCanadien's picture

I agree with your points. Pleks is also our BEST PK guy (offensively I wanted more, but really Pleks, all around BEST player on this team)...Gill can be big at times and those times usually make a difference. They need to work harder, and those delay of game penalties suck. Bogus call against Moen on the hook though, dive! dive!

I agree,I didn't want to bash JM (again) but I didn't understand that so lineup. Markov does pretty well also

RiverviewCanadien's picture

Double Post...

HugeHabsFan's picture

Nope. Halak, Gomez and a Bruin.

........... "Thank you Cammy for making my day even more amazing!" I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.

I really like Halak's "compete level"

Hard workers get an A+

twocents's picture

With Brodeur's clock ticking and Jacques Lemaire behind the bench, Lamoriello is all in and going for it.

He just put some major pressure on Washington and Pittsburgh.

Smartest GM in the NHL.

24 Cups's picture

Chris - Exactly.  The Devils have two prospects in their system who may be better than Bergfors and Cormier and the 1st rounder they gave up will be a bottom third pick in a weak year.  The only real loss was Oduya - especially in terms of the playoffs.  Lou is going to have to make one more deal.

No other team will be able to enhance their roster the way that NJ just did.

twocents's picture

Okay, Steve, you've called me Rob... you've called me Chris...

... at least you keep it civil. ;o)

The due date was actually 2 days ago but no baby yet. We're already prepared in case of having to leave in short notice. Meaning i set the pvr to record the games on saturday and sunday just in case she ends up coming this weekend and we end up spending it at the hospital, lol

I think you have it wrong Chuck.

It is 40+ SAVES a night that will do that for you =)

You can't make 40+ saves without having 40+ shots directed at you.

My post was a dig at the team defense, not Halak.

I just got the feeling you took it from the negative side of things. I just know it is called a SV%, which is calculated by the TOTAL amount of SAVES and SHOTS.

HardHabits's picture

Touche RC. Well played.

Propwash's picture

Gotta say, Boston really sucks when the Habs mail it in like that (minus Halak) and still come out on top.

Losers Even After Forty two Seasons

Harani's picture

Hey guys! I returned from the hospital just about 3 minutes before the Habs scored their first goal. What a game! And should I go back and watch the first or just leave it?

Also, all those blabbering here and on the Antichambre that Habs without Halak would havelost 5 in a row, you know what? Last time I checked, Halak plays for the Montreal Canadiens and he's part of this team. Ok he literally saved everything for the Habs but the fact is that he is part of our team and we are lucky to have him. Stop whining! Take the 4 points and we'll see how they come out on Saturday!

J. Ambrose's picture

Skip the first. It was awful.

doug's picture
Those were two BAD teams tonight. Winner may be the one who finishes with better pick. Bruin really remind me of Habs last year.

Gomez couldn't score into an empty net. Poor choices for the shoot out. Sergei is hot

We don't need to tank just replace Dags(AK 46),MAB (Cammi),and upgrade with size/toughness-Laps,Gorges and Spacek. Darsche and Pouliot have made such a difference on this team because they play big,not perimeter hockey.

HardHabits's picture

The Bahston commentators were calling him Dash.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

How should it be pronounced??

Somethingwithhabsinit's picture

Ma-BREEZ-bwah.

Are you kidding me thats the best Waddel could get for Kovachuk I think the NHL should check Waddel bank account because I think someone sliped a few dollars to him. That trade stinks as bad as the refs in Boston tonite. Why the hell does he what to go to Jersey, is there a dirty place on the face of the earth. Maybe the 20 fans that go to the game will chant his name.

Bob Barker's picture

I think Atlanta did pretty well considering Kovalchuk's UFA status.

Bergfors will be a solid top 6 forward

Cormier has plenty of potential (if he can control himself)

Oduya is a decent defensive D-man

1st Round pick,

Kovalchuk should definitely help the Devils if he can buy into Lemaire's system. For the PP alone he's worth it.

HardHabits's picture

Devils win the Cup and shows those upstart Hawks and Caps that tanking is a no-no.

idle's picture

What season are you talking about? Cause the Habs are winning the cup this season.

It's a MAB MAB world.

topher5468's picture

There is no telling how good this team could be if they would play 60 min of hockey. Still no excuse for the way they started but like we all know, 2 pts is 2 pts
