This is sad. We're sitting in our montreal hotel after last night's loss wondering what went wrong. We will miss the habs dearly for a few months.
BUT.
Even though it feels like I've been dumped by the girl of my dreams, we are getting back together. Come fall, I have a feeling she is going to want me back. And we will stay together probably for at least 82 games. The fact that it hurts this much to lose means we have something incredible going with this group of guys - Mediocrity would not feel like this. Ask a leaf fan how they felt when their team was eliminated from the palyoffs with 12 or so games remaining in the regular season. They were probably pissed off, but they weren't heartbroken.
Look, regardless of what round we went out in, unless we won the cup, this was bound to happen. And we weren't going to win the cup. But it's not the cup I really cared about and I dont think many of you care that much about it either - its the comraderie, the excitement, the wearing the jersey in the street and getting a car horn honk, the waving the white towels with 21 272 others, and the fist pumping, smiling, and 5-1 comebacks. It's all of that that we will really remember from this year, and we have to just keep in mind it is likely it will be even better come fall of -08.
Everyone has something incredible to look forward to. Whereas last summer, it was completely up in the air as to what this team would do.
I had a great time, I am sad as hell, but I am excited to finally be able to say we have a contender.
GO HABS GO. This team will be scary good.
