Audio: Carbo shuffles deck with new lines

posted by Mike Boone at 12h43 EST on Nov 20

Pat Hickey checks in from morning skate in Ottawa to report Guy Carbonneau has shuffled the deck again.

Guillaume Latendresse will  be reunited with Saku Koivu and Alex Tanguay.

This one's intriguing:  Tomas Plekanec centres Alex Kovalev and Christopher Higgins.

The third line has Robert Lang between Andrei Kostitsyn and Tom Kostopoulos.

The fourth line may be a game time decision, but it shapes up as Steve Bégin centring Georges Laraque and Sergei Kostitsyn.

Defence pairings stay the same. Carey Price is in goal.

Audio:   • Christopher Higgins   • Guillaume Latendresse   • Carbo

Can someone help me.I cant get rhe game on tv can you give a rdio station to listen to the game Thank You Vic

As far as the line combos go, Id be tempted to switch Lang and Plekanec. Im pretty sure Kovalev wants to play with Lang.

and play pleky with the brothers, with andrei on the right side. I would also like to see bgl get some pp time tonight. Put his big body in front of the net and pound away from the point.

twocents's picture
Showey, I thought I would admit that the lines did not work very well the other night, as you predicted. Lang and the brothers K weren't that bad though. I also thought that Lats showed more jump than he had for several games. So maybe a game on the 4th line reminded him how he should be on one of the top three and that he needs to play hard to stay there.

What's with the news that Gainey has spoken to Sundin in LA today.. I heard it in RIS, the sister station of RDS... Anyone else hear about this?? ------------------------------------------------------------------- Koivu for Prime Minister...

thats been floating around the last few days, nothing more.

Although 99 percent of us secretly (some have confessed recently) wish Sundin would sign with us after the summer of torment this issue put us through I try not to think about it too much....doesn't mean it works though.

I am part of the 1% that wants to see Sundin retire to become a Poker Star. It's just a game -Go Habs Go

Anyone else laugh at the fact that he's wearing a blank jersey with a 'C' on it?

RDS is reporting that Gainey was at Sundin's training session... http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/263910.html

Last year was great, wasn't it? We can agree on that. There were low spots. But OVERALL, we had a dang good year. Thought Eric Engels did a fine job of putting things in perspective. Last year, same time, we had an extra point and were about to embark on a 4-7-3 streak. Perspectez-vous? Peace Out ______________________________________________________ Lord Bugs Potter, esq. nightmare_49... are these random posts of useless info really necessary?? this is HABSINSIDEOUT... not random nhl junk inside out.

twocents's picture
As I guess you've gathered by now, many of us on here really appreciate what nightmare49 does on a daily basis. Include me to that list. He has a better eye for good hockey content than anyone I have ever come across. As far as good business goes, as several others have pointed out, I almost always access other sites content through the links posted here, including nightmare's. Those redirects are part of how this site's value grows. This is home base for me when it comes to hockey and nightmare is part of the reason why.

24 Cups's picture
Yes, this is a Habs' site but I was also under the impression that we were all open minded enough to enjoy the world of hockey in general. After all, it's the love of the game that brought us all here. BTW, when you know half as much about hockey as NM49 does, then you can be critical of the content that is found on this site. I for one, look forward to Brian's information posts each and every day. It has become part of my breakfast routine. Going For The Brass Ring - 25 Cups In 100 Years

people looking forward to bryans posts?? wow , sad, how some people, rely on other's thoughts and opinions. i for one have this so called nightmare, at the summit. a drunken fool is my final thought on him.

G-Man's picture
NM49 cuts through the crap so we can read the good stuff, not the schlock. Keep 'em coming, NM49. Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

I disagree. I really like these posts. The ones he selects are almost always interesting.

rp25's picture
I think this fella is just being a good guy and helping curious habfans keep up on what's going on around the league. And that's a good thing .Keep up the good work NM49..

I gotta agree, I thought we were here to Blog and discuss/argue. If I wanted useless articles about EVERYTHING under the sun, I would go to Google insideout.... Supposed to be our ideas and thought, not links to other people's thoughts.

Does it really matter? If you don't like them don't read them. Have you ever gone to the links? They are actually good sites and different articles than the ones that we get on TSN, the Toronto star and Gazette. I kind of like them...sometimes I go to them sometimes I don't....that simple.

hey KNOB or whatever your user name is, you do realize this site is sponsored and put together by the gazette right??? why would you want to be advising readers and encouraging them to go visit tsn, cbc and other related sites, seems like bad business practice. maybe these sites have more level headed habs fan. must be the warm beer with the straw you got going on there.

g's picture
A blog provides commentary or news on a particular subject. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Congratulation HIO and NM49 you are doing it right. And Knob-really?

Chorske's picture
What everyone else said, plus: unless I'm mistake, clicking those links counts as a referral from HIO- this is good because it is another statistic (in addition to direct traffic to HIO) that encourages folks to advertise on this site... which, as Boone put it, pays the bills.

DD's picture
I am a Habs fan first, but I am also a hockey fan. I happen to enjoy reading Nightmares 49 posts. I have a simply solution to your problem, if you don't like them, don't read them. Don't try to "dick"tate to the rest of us, what we should or shouldn't read. If the Gazette had a problem with Bryan's posts, I'm sure they would have said something by now. Just try to remember that knowledge = power. Have you burnt any good books lately? BTW His name is Krob 1000 and he's been posting here since the conception of this site, as has Nightmare 49, show some respect.

Habsrule1's picture
So they've earned respect cause they've been on the site since the beginning? Is that all it takes? How about intelligent posts? "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

DD's picture
Compared to censorship and sophomoric name calling.....and you’re questioning THEIR intelligence? I think that was what I was trying to imply. Sorry, maybe I should have clarified that point a little better. I guess my comment was a little too cerebral for some, not mentioning anyone’s name.

twocents's picture
Thanks DD, that sums it up better than I could have. Any comments on your avatar? It's the right one for tonight.

G-Man's picture
Pow! Zap! Zing! Way to set him straight! :) Gilbert 2008/09 is the season of the Habs

You obviously got some issues bud maybe you should worry about them instead of what links someone posts...there are some readily avialble medications to help your anger issues. BTW you ever notice the Gazette posts links to other sites and ....get this....even other news outlets.....ooooh.....what terrible business practice. I'm surprised the Gazette still has them in their employ. I see by the growth charts they should probably stop doing that because other readers might .....come here before they go to another site.....gee wouldn't want that as a business person would you. Hmmm ...even before people go to other news outlets they come here and pad HIO's numbers for their advertisers....terriible ...doesn't seem like you notice too much.

That's stupid. in case you haven't noticed, our HI/O guys also post articles from other sites, so if Nightmare wants to do it too, let it go. Nobody censors you, so stop trying to do it to someone else. Nobody forces you to read the articles, so ignore them if you don't want to read them.

I feel like I must repeat a few times so everyone knows.... WE ARE IN THE SAME SPOT IF NOT BETTER THAN LAST YEAR...

The Cat's picture
The habs are better 5on5 so far this year compared to last year, thats encouraging.

HabsFan2's picture
Actually, we are 3 points behind last years total points. Last year: 11 - 6 - 5 = 25pts. This year: 10 - 5 - 2 = 22pts. http://canadiens.nhl.com/team/app?service=page&page=TeamSeasonComparison But I get your point. ---------------------------------------------- When you talk about the Canadiens, you have to put the word 'family' in front of it." - Patrick Roy

joeybarrie's picture
I went with number of games as opposed to time frame since the season started later this year. But even at that point, we are still doing JUST AS WELL AS LAST YEAR.....We have 5 games to make 14 goals and 3 points.... In fact like I said 3 points behind and 5 games in hand. I would take that anyday of the week.

From a 'Games Played' perspective, we're way ahead.

HabsFan2's picture

joeybarrie's picture
OH YE OF LITTLE FAITH. You know last season at this point we had 21 points and 49 goals for compared to 22 points and 53 goals for this season. Our record was 9-4-3 compared to 10-5-2... Oh man but we are SO BAD this year. We are ahead of our progress last season. Remember the talk of not making the playoffs, Maybe 8th spot..... Then we came in 1st. I hope our team has more FAITH than the fans. We aren't playing to our capacity yet...In fact I don;t think we are playing very well at all. But there is a LONG road ahead, and we are looking the same as last year when we were all writing off our chances and asking for heads to roll, FIRE EVERYONE, HIRE ALL THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE.....WHAT THE HECK IS EVERYONE TALKING ABOUT???????

honestly sometimes i wonder what people on this site are thinking, of course on blogs you are supposed to respect others opinions, but so far, id say 50-60% of those who post on this site, express un realistic opinions, and are over critical of the team. these are exactly the type of fans, that would BOOO a player who missed a play or they dislike. this is un-excusable behaviour. its early in the season, we're in the hunt for first place, we've had some great victory's as well as some bad games... did you expect the habs would be 82-0 ????? in carbo and gainey we must trust, these are the pro's. have been envolved and in the game. not just hiding behind a pc screen and watching games from the sofa drinking warm labatt 50. these guys know what they're doing. so relax..... sometimes i feel like leaving this site, and joining leafs inside out lol

I've been called a lot of things but a "warm beer drinker".....that hurts....and Labatt 50 at that. If I didn't like the rest of your post so much I'd be really pissed.

HugeHabsFan's picture
I think being referred to as a "warm beer drinker" is an insult to ANY Canadian, lol. Other than that, good points! ........... "To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be yours to hold it high." I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.

What's with putting Sergei on the 4th line? I thought the line of Lang and the Kostitsyn brothers looked okay last game, which is more than what I can say for most other lines.

Habsrule1's picture
I'm thinking it's a message. I doubt it'll last long...perhaps not even this whole game. None of us are happy with his play, and this is a bit better than benching him, but that might come too. No et al's picture
"...and HAINSEY etc... have in common with our current plight? they were TOUGH SOB's... and they are LEADERS....and we let them go for nothing." We lost Hainsey through re-entry waivers... nobody wanted to lose him. The other option was leaving him in the AHL, but we needed him up at the time and gambled... and lost. And hey - yeah, I'd love to see AK47 with Koivu (and wouldn't mind seeing the little bro on the other side for a few shifts either). I wouldn't be surprised if we see that tried at some point this season (and perhaps soon). You all know Carbo comes on here and reads this stuff before they decide on the line-ups. Why do you think he said he wasn't going to make any changes? He figured he'd leak that, we'd all post what the lines should be and he'd just copy them.

twocents's picture
I believe Hainsey was lost through the old waiver draft system where each team had to submit a protected list in the preseason of all eligible players they wanted to protect up to a certain maximum. That may have been the same mechanism that lost us Vokun.

ebk's picture
sorry, guys Hainsey was lost to Columbus on waivers when the habs tried to recall him during the 2005/2006 season.

twocents's picture
Pardon me then. Earl, I got your email, I am looking forward to responding. But, for now I have to run out and won't be back till after the game starts.

ebk's picture
not a problem, just send it to the other email address i forwarded to you. You and Adriano might have him confused with Beauchemin. Maybe? not that it matters a whole lot.

The Teacher's picture
Yup, that's exactly what it is. Also how we lost Bouillon once upon a time I believe. My suggested overtime format and other sports talk

ebk's picture
Bouillon yes, hainsey no Hainsey was lost on waivers

twocents's picture
If I remember right Boullion may have been lost through an expansion draft. Or maybe that was Vokoun and Cube was the other way.

doug's picture
Skots is really not in right place. . . I'm worried about that guy. Send him down and lose him to KHL? Doubt it, but worth considering. If he's not in top three lines he shouldn't be playing. Swap with higgins would be better fit if skots were playing better. . . and given higgins isn't great either per report (have missed last game and a half) who's to say he's any better up on line 2?

JasonM's picture
Great move putting Lats back on the first line, back to their original success at the start of the season. I'm also excited what Pleks line can provide. Interesting to see Sergei on the 4th but his play has been weak as of late. Anyone know why Lapierre is being benched for? Matter of circumstance or did he do something wrong? All I hope for and ask for is for some passionate hockey from our boys against the Sens and build it up for Sats game when #33 will have his Jersey retired. Go Habs Go.

Habsrule1's picture
I hope the hockey gods smile on Montreal now that we are doing what is right! All hail "Le Roi"! "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

English coverage of the game for some can be seen on Sportsnet East but you may have Dean The Blow Hard Brown as the announcer, but i think he won't have much to brag about this Sens season.

twocents's picture
When will we see Tanguay LW, Koivu C, AK46 RW? I want to see it. It would kick a#@. {krob stop trying to say no one is calling for this other than you. I have been saying it since preseason, you have only recently joined this slim chorus.:o)}
