Komisarek out for another month

posted by Dave Stubbs at 13h40 EST on Nov 21

A not-serious shoulder injury, as it was first reported, will keep Canadiens defenceman Mike Komisarek on the sidelines for another month.

Komisarek has missed the past four games since he was injured fighting the Bruins' Milan Lucic in Boston.

More details to come.

Let's see big Georges do what he was hired to do. Old time hockey. It's time for Georges to step up to the plate. http://dennis-kane.com/

Who every said Brisbois is playing well has to be on drugs --- never have I seen anyone playing defense as soft as him! He just can't win any battles in the corners or front of the net! The only positive part of his game is that he occasionally passes well and has an okay shot from the point --- anyway my point is we need to make a trade if we don't call someone up from the farm !!! We need help on defense NOW !!!! Please BOB!!!

The Cat's picture
I dont think we should trade for a defenseman at all costs, I mean itd be nice to get a good one but the offensive players have been the ones dropping the ball not the defense for the most part.

Last thing we need is GBL taking runs at Lucic. Komi is a big boy and he got hurt in a fight with another big boy. Maybe the next time they tangle Lucic will get hurt. If something happens and GBL and Lucic scrap then that is fine, just don't go looking for it. This injury will give O'B, Georges and the rest of the guys a chance to step up and prove how good they can be. Actually it might help the team alot. Wishful thinking would be BG trading for Lucic, he's exactly the kind of player that the Habs need.

Y's picture
Please BGL give it to Lurch tomorrow. I don't care if we win or lose on the scoreboard, that is one battle we need to win.

Kaptain K's picture
Vote Hammer instead of Komi for the All-Star game --- I Believe..

The Cat's picture
Truth be told, hes the only hab that deserves it. And maybe Koivu.

habsperspective's picture
Maybe Laraque can take his place, since Komi went down trying to do not so BIG bGL's job... Who knows we might find out Laraque is a better blue line man, then he is an enforcer!!!

Habsrule1's picture
I assume this is a joke. In case it's not, Komi wanted to fight Lucic because of their history. Had nothing to do with "bgl's job". "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

habsperspective's picture
In fact it is a joke, whatever the history may be, we have a top 4 blue liner on the shelf till the new year, cause of some fight that needed not be fought. And our supposed enforcer has done nothing to help our team's supposed "soft" image. This team, has a clear leadership issue, when people's roles are not being fulfilled by the people paid to do so. Is it our coach, our captain, or is just the fact our team has a little much ego thinking there winner's already, and forgetting we need to PLAY the games still to prove it. Theres no doubt in anyones mind the team has talent, but as the saying goes, do they have heart? Still to be proven!! And last time i checked we dont need a PERFECT team to win a championship, and when i hear we need to make a trade for another defencemen, or whatever....We dont, we just need our 56 Million dollar team to grow the hell up, and do there respective job's!!! Oh well, if they dont no skin off my back.

The Cat's picture
The habs cant let Lucic change their game, itll be the playoffs all over again. The kid plays a good game, the best revenge is to play a better game. The bruins are the real deal. And I'm happy for them to be honest, if theres a guy whos gotten the raw end of the stick a few times its Claude Julien, and hes a good guy.

bigdave's picture
Just great, doomed to more Brisebois!

pher pher's picture
What are you talking about? Breezer is playing well. I hope Laraque returns the favor to Lucic!

Habsrule1's picture
Don't bother man. Some children on the site love to denigrate Breezer even though he has not made any more mistakes than anyone else on the team this year. "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

There was this Bruin goof names Milan Who thought he was the next Chris Nilan On the next day we play I hope the habs make him pay And we fly around him all night like a pylon

No et al's picture
Read thorugh a lot of comments and wanted to make a few points about a few that stuck out: Yes - BGL should fight Lucic, but no, not because he fought Komi last time, but because it WILL intimidate him and slow him down. He's a young, strong kid who only knows how to play the game one way - hard. But he's not had a lot of "trouble" come his way and a guy like Laraque in his face all night is a great way to take the spunk out of the kid. When Lucic is going like a wrecking ball, so are the rest of the Bruins. I've never seen Marco Strum play so big as last Saturday (thankfully he's out of the line up too). Big George has fought Chara a number of times also, but that does nothing. Chara isn't flying around pounding forwards and defensemen like Lucic does. I'd really like to see that kid in a Habs jersey... but if not, then he needs a trimmin' and be taken down a notch or two. Why did he disappear in the seventh game last year? That one is still a mystery to me. About Ryan O'Byrne. The kid will be a very good D-man for us for a very long time. He is one of those univeristy kids so it means he hasn't played nearly as many games as those who have come in the traditional way (junior hockey). He will need a few years to round out, but I have no doubt he will get there. He has all the tools (just needs to keep that mean streak). As for calling up Webber. I like this. I think he's another Streit and could help the Habs' power play get back to at least a shadow of what it has been the past two seasons (as it's very, very bad right now). Anyway, terrible news about Komi, but we will no doubt be blessed with many battles between he and Lucic over the next 10-15 years.

Chris's picture
Weber may be a similar player to Streit, but unfortunately he shoots right so he would not really allow Markov to go back to the left point from which he excels. With Weber in the line-up, the Habs would instead have to re-design the power play with Markov controlling the play from the unfamiliar right point so that he could set up one-timers for Weber. Kovalev would probably also have to move to the left half-boards (where he is not nearly as effective, judging from the few times he played there last year) so that the diagonal passes that Markov is so adept at making become a second option for the PK to defend against. Because of this, I don't really see Weber as a solution for the first PP wave (although he could be useful on the second wave). To fit him into the line-up would mean putting Kovalev and Markov into less-optimal positions, so the overall benefit to the PP might be minimal. I am much more keen on seeing Hamrlik be given a go on the right point...he was once a decent offensive defenceman, so give him a few games and see if he can get some shots through. I think its worth a try.

Chris's picture
Why do so many people continue to go on about Georges Laraque "needing" to fight Milan Lucic? Mike Komisarek is a big boy who likes to rough it up and run his mouth and has a running battle with Lucic...as Komisarek himself said it, he and Lucic will almost certainly have more fights over their career. He does not need a goon to protect him. Having Laraque jump Lucic over Komisarek's injury is simply inane. It was a fluke injury that occurred in a fight that Komisarek was more than happy to get into...Komisarek wasn't defending anybody, he wasn't trying to fire up the team. He was frustrated and wanted to fight Lucic who he was tangled up with and with whom he has some history. The power-plays that would come out of Larque jumping Lucic, who could easily refuse to fight, accomplish nothing but making a few of you feel better. More importantly, you aren't going to take Milan Lucic out of the play by trying to rough him up: he thrives on that crap. He's going to go out there and throw his body around, which is what he's paid to do. If he does anything dirty (running somebody from behind, running the goalie, etc.), then AND ONLY THEN would I want to see Laraque do anything about it. Laraque's job is to fire up the Habs with a fight occasionally and not be a liability, not to go out and fight everybody that dares to hit a Montreal Canadien player. Maybe some of you had some misguided notion that Laraque gets into a fight or two every game, although I have no idea from where that notion would arise: he has averaged about 2 PIM's per game over his career. So far this season, he has 24 PIM in 10 games (including 4 fights). Compare that to his 13 fights in 71 games last season or 8 fights in 73 games the season before that.

I think we would all feel a lot better if the team came fired up to play hockey and buried the Bruins on the scoreboard tomorrow night. After the last outing against Boston, that would be the best revenge.

Chris's picture
And when the Habs are up 7-0 and Lucic wants to start something with Laraque, then I hope Georges pounds the living snot out of him and subsequently demonstrates how to behave like a professional. That is my happy place for Saturday. I don't ask much from the hockey gods, but if I get that little gift I am good for Christmas this year. :)

If it happens it would be proof enough of the existence of God to me and as good as Aquinas' or Descartes'.

HabsFan2's picture
"If he does anything dirty (running somebody from behind, running the goalie, etc.), then AND ONLY THEN would I want to see Laraque do anything about it." Yup, that's how and when he should drop 'em. That being said, if Lucic declines the dance, Laraque better beat him anyway. Not for Komisarek, but for what he did after the fight. ---------------------------------------------- When you talk about the Canadiens, you have to put the word 'family' in front of it." - Patrick Roy

I agree about not fighting Lucic for anything to do with Komisarek......I do hope BGL or someone pounds him or tries to goad him into a fight because of Lucic's behaviour after the fight...that was disrespectful. At the same time it is a hell of a trade on the ice as well Laraque for Lucic. I'm all for him trying to do that. Win or lose the fight again I don't really care but someone needs to try adn fight him after that sideshow he put on after the Komisarek fight.

Chris's picture
I agree that it makes sense for Laraque to try and goad Lucic into a 5-minute sit in the penalty box (although I am VERY sure Julien will be telling Lucic to avoid that situation at all costs!). And I also thought it was pretty classless how Lucic went on after the fight. But let's be fair: Komisarek isn't exactly a sportsman at times out there. He loves to get under people's skin too. If the Habs didn't like the show Lucic put on last time, then they should skate the Bruins into the freaking ground Saturday night and beat them on the scoreboard.

Chorske's picture
Instigator or not, Carbo's got to let Laraque run off the leash. No way should Komo be missing a month, and most importantly, sustaining an injury in a fight that could nag him his entire career.

sidhu's picture
Another reason why BGL needs to wreck Lucic

oshawahabsfan's picture
Ok there's no way we can go with Briesbois for a month, someone has to be called up from the farm. He hasn't been playing too bad however he's here to step in occasionaly, not play a month and a half straight.

Habsrule1's picture
He's doing fine, but I somewhat agree. He may wear down, and then we MIGHT see the mistakes everyone is imagining he's already doing. "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

I am putting Laraque on D tonight and play Lapierre. If George played D he could take on Lucic at the time of his choosing.

Can he skate backwards though? He can barely skate forward.

I expect Flinn or Henry to come up for tomorrow's game to lay a beating on the Bruins. Flinn hammered that loud mouth Thornton so bad he was crying about it.

From a purse grab worthy of Rivera To a scoring drought like the Sahara... Tho Ryan is tall, For now, that's about all Cos he, sir, is no Zdeno Chara. * I should add that although I am joking about him, I actually like O'Byrne and I think he brings more to the team than we realize. He's going thru a rough spell but he'll turn it around.

Ron, very artsy in Kingston I see.

Dave do you have any more info on this meeting this past Wed between Gainey and Sundin? I thought Mats made it pretty clear that he wasn't interested in signing with the Habs, so why take this meeting with Bob? Inquiring minds want to know?

Awful news... but always looking for the silver lining, the blessing in disguise - maybe Yannick Weber gets called up and the PP gets its act in gear with him on the point. And Big Georges Laraque has to answer the bell here Saturday vs. Lucic... hopefully Carbo dresses him. Ding dong, the witch is dead. AND - AND - AND - the Habs must crush, I mean absolutely CRUSH the Bruins! This game is a key point in this team's season for so many reasons.

24 Cups's picture
For now, our best bet is to make Dandy the 7th Dman and bring up D'Agostini to play RW. We're looking at making do without Komi for about 15 games. Trying to trade for another defenseman at this point in time would mean that we would certainly have to overpay, big time. I think we also have to prepare ourselves for the notion that Brisebois' bonus (in terms of the cap) is going to kick in this year. Going For The Brass Ring - 25 Cups In 100 Years

Ian G Cobb's picture
agreed- can not trade from weakness, we have to bring up the kids.

MikeL's picture
Bonuses count against the cap already this year because the NHLPA can open the CBA. So whether Brisebois earns his bonus or not, it still counts against the cap as if he did. LA got to the cap floor because they had a lot of young kids with bonuses.

24 Cups's picture
Mike - Right. $1.5 mil for a 7th Dman - not good. Same can be said for Laraque, a part time policeman. Next year we need about 7 guys who make under $900000 grand, with some of them at the $600000 level. SK74, Lapierre, O'Bryne, and Halak will already be there. Cheaper replacements for Dandy, Begin, and Brisebois will be imperative. Going For The Brass Ring - 25 Cups In 100 Years

Ian G Cobb's picture
George will get an instigater 2 min. more, but he has to step up and jump this SOB. If he does not teach him a very large lesson then we signed a has been.

tony d's picture
so basically we have to put up with the horrible play of O'Byrne and Brisebois for another month??? Oy vay!

Ian G Cobb's picture
Tony- the kid is not playing well and needs more time on the farm. But Brisbois has been doing everything he has been asked and then some.

Habsrule1's picture
Don't bother Ian. People here are just dead set against admitting that Brisebois has played well, with no more mistakes than everyone else. "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

Sneezer's picture
I'm not a fan of Breezer but his +/- is middle of the pack and he seems to be playing okay, not stellar but he's a third line guy. He's been fairly solid. ____________________________________________________________ Why don't we have a defensive coach? Insanity? Or arrogance?

Habsrule1's picture
You are right on. He's paid fairly little for an NHL D-Man, and is a 6th or more often a 7th D-Man. I just loved his quote when he said if "Bob Gainey would have had less money for me, I would have taken less money." "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Go Habs Go!! Habsrule

tony d's picture
you know usually I disagree with you but I have to admit you're right...I tend to pick on Brisebois because he's an easy target and I joined a Facebook club named "Brisebois Sucks" (So I figure I have to maintain my standing in the club) but many other Habs players have been sucking at one point or another this year. Markov has not been brilliant and neither has Gorges, Hammer, and definitely not O'B. Yes they've all made mistakes and if I've caused Brisebois or you any anguish or embarrassment, I apologize. I also bleed blue, blanc et rouge.

Habsrule1's picture
Love the post! I appreciate the gesture. I have no particular love for Brisebois or his career, but I try to call them as I see them. I believe that OB should be given a HUGE chance cause I want to believe he will start to use his size & strength, but I can't help what I see. Brisebois has done nothing or little to deserve the bashing he gets. I think bashing him has become the "sexy" thing to do, and many posters on here feel they belong, and will be accepted if they join in on it. There's no other explanation. Cheers. Entering silly fantasy mode for a second here, I wonder which of our impending free agents we'd have to package with O'Byrne to pry Mike Green out of Washington... Or maybe we could spare a slick Russian stickhandling genius to set up a slumping Ovechkin? 1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat 2. Josh Gorges on Montreal's attack: "They're comin', they're comin' and they keep comin'. Just line after line, wave after wave..."

you're dreaming. green is going nowhere. also, a slumping ovechkin?? are you kidding me? have you checked the scoring lately? the guy has 23 pts in 18 games - and until last night's game, he had a 5 game goal streak going.

Haha that really is fantasy world.

Agree I cant see Lucic dropping the gloves with BGL...he just won't do it he don't have the balls

MikeL's picture
Jovonovski? Brewer? Jackman? Bouwmeester? Schiender? All defenseman on bottom-feeding teams that would likely be traded for the right price. We need another defenseman quick. It was an issue before, but now with Komisarek gone it's moved to the front burner. If not from outside, we should give Yannik Webber a chance to show his stuff. If he can play reliable hockey for 17 minutes a game and improve our PP, he may just be this seasons savior.

Ian G Cobb's picture
Komisaric's replacement is getting ready. OHL--- P.K. Subban has another 3 point night to lead all D scorers with 25

Told you Ian ,think he will be ready first.

Ian G Cobb's picture
Very young yetbut he will get there. Talked to him for a while last week and he thinks he can crack the lineup next year. I think he needs a year in the AHL first.

Laraque will be going after lucic this saturday, you can be assured of that :)

Useless laraque won't do anything but make up more excuses as to why he couldn't fight.... we have a better shot without him he is a lousy hockey player

If he doesn't I will. We will be 8 rows up, I think I can jump from there.
