Belleville Bulls defenceman P.K. Subban, the Canadiens' second-round draft choice (43rd overall) in 2007, has been selected to the national team that will represent Canada in the World Junior Championship beginning later this month in Ottawa.

Subban, 19, is part of a Bellevile team that tops the OHL's Eastern Conference. In  29 games, Subban has 4 goals, 33 assists and is plus-27.

Two Canadiens' draft picks have made the U.S. team:

• Defenceman Ryan McDonagh (first round, 12th overall in 2007), who's a sophomore at the University of Wisconsin;

• Forward Danny Kristo (second round, 26th overall in 2008), who is playing for the Omaha Lancers of the USHL and will enter the University of North Dakota next fall.

hey jw i have a question for you? why is lucic a gutless coward and scared to death to fight laraque? so from here on in we habs fans will tab him as milan "yellow streak down my back lucic !~ what a gutless coward and a pussy! i can't wait to watch laraque hand him his ***! and when he does i hope you don't pull a lucic and run and hide and be gutless, come on here and face us afterwards! .........but you won't your a typical bruins fan all mouth no show.........btw how's the tim"the funnel" thomas going to do in the playoffs this year?......answer the same as last year! he's going to pull a linda lovelace and choke on the big one again!

Sunshine.... I will be on here but were will you be when the Bruins are playing in June and the Habs are golfing ( that is if it is golf season therein June) I am not sure that the fight will happen because the Bruins gain nothing even if Lucic beat up the "man who can't Skate" we loose a tallented player and the trade off is not good for us..Thornton is willing and it would be a good exchange...As far as Thomas goes hey if he does choke than we have another goalie tha tis also playing well ( which is more than I can ay for your 2 stiffs) Get your Playoffs tickets in Boston...best chanc eto see the cup this season!!! From Boston with Love!!

you mentioned if lucic wins that fight! i think you mean lose and lose badly laraque would beat him to a pulp! laraque hasn't lost and lucic would be no match for him there's not a guy in the league that can beat him! including a personal friend of mine here in regina! DEREK BOOGARD.

if you guys think you'd beat sanjose in the stanley cup final! your more dillisional than lefas fans! SANJOSE WILL SWEEP YOU 4 STRAIGHT,I REPEAT THEY WILL SWEEP YOU 4 STRAIGHT! and i hate to break it to you but you won't be playing in june you'll be lucky to make it out of the 1st r.d with that funnel in your net!

let's face iot boys its a long way off before the playoffs even start, so to discuss playoffs is kinda crazy espeially who will make the finals... feel free to pick up your stanley cup tickets in Boston ( as it appears at least "habsgood" knows you won't be there) From Boston with Love!!

feel free to look at the tape -- when Laraque ask him to go Lucic looked at the bench and he was told No by juilan --- why didnt Laraque go when Thornton asked him? is he a gutless puke\ Pussy? It looked like Laraque didnt want to fight after Lucic flattened him in trhe corner....

i think you had better open your eyes and clean your glasses! lucic ran like a scared school kid everytime laraque came near him! laraque has haned thornton his *** so many times in fights1 he's never lost to thornton ,why does thornton want another beating!

Laraque didnt go near him after Lucic hit him...maybe he got hurt too! I dont think Lucic should fight him not a good trade of for the B's please tell Carbo to have Laraque shadow him again we really enjoyed Carbo breaking up your lines all night long!

+27!?!?! WOW... How bad can his defence be if he's +27? ~Listen to the rooster! He knows what he's saying!

he might have an amazing defensive partner or their team is just THAT dominant...i don't follow junior so i can't tell you...do the research if you wish.

He will be a fine pro, he brings to the table a wealth of personality and talent. He has speed and play making ability, a very heavy shot from the point. He has the ability to pinch in and get back to take care of his defensive responsibilities. He has a teachable attitude and a fantastic smile. He is already a great role model. PK stands for penalty killer,is one of his fun lines.

I like what I'm hearing about him, but I'd really like to see Weber in a Habs jersey sooner rather than later. I haven't' seen a shot as hard as his since the Souray days, and he may be just what our hobbled PP needs. 1. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat 2. We have three young prospects on defense who all shoot from the right side - Subban, Carle, and Weber. None of them are very big. I can't see them all making the Habs defense, especially with Komi having one of the spots locked down long term. Therefore, it might be worthwhile to think about turning Subban into a RW next year in Hamilton. Let him gain some experience there and then have him play for the Habs in two years. Nichlas Torp (defenceman drafted in 6th round in 2007) also made the Swedish Junior Team, who are one of the favourites yet again this year.

Wow thats great! how come they don't call him up? It at least sounds like he knows which net to shoot on! From Boston with Love!!

Remind me...when was the last time the Booins did anything in the playoffs? Last Cup again? How many did that make? Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Habsrule

Remind me when was the last time Montreal won a championship?

Remind me when was the last time Boston won a championship?

last year....unlike you we dont have to rely on one team to win for us

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, and I've frequented many Bruins forums, so I've heard some dumb comments. Which Montreal team would win us a championship? The baseball team we don't have? The basketball team we don't have? Here's a fun fact, our Habs have won only 5 less championships then Boston's three major teams combined.

Yeah cuz baseball requires skill to play... *cough* not *cough* ...

LOL...that's hysterical! Reach back for another sport cause you know the Booins suck! I coulda sworn we were talking about hockey! Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy(Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy Habsrule

That's awesome!! Congrads Subban! I saw him wearing an 'A' in the team photo too, which is pretty cool. Also, Esposito finally made the team. All I have to say is, good for him. He kept with it and now finally gets to be part of this awesome tournament, in Canada no less.

No offense, but Esposito's attitude kept him from playing with Canada in the past, so I'm asuming it's only due to slim-pickings that he made the team this time around.

So Fischer is a lost cause?

The Professor's picture
Also I think he's now too old to play in this tournament if you were implying that his not being on the US team was a sign of things not going well for him

Les-Habitants's picture
Not at all, he kinda got buried back behind a bunch of other elite prospects in his program, and had a injury too. He's being counted on much more this year, albeit a weaker team, and has responded well. He doesn't look to project into a top pairing d-man anymore, but he could still make the NHL and has continues to have tremendous upside.

Awesome. He's burning up the OHL, now it's time to take on the world. Also happy that Pickard and Tokarski were chosen for goaltending duties. Good choices!

Except Subban can contribute offensively (albeit less defensively sound, I can only imagine).

You can learn to be more defensibly responsible more easily than you can learn to be offensively gifted.

L- - They said that about Paul Coffey.

That's true. Regardless, he won't be Gorges.
