Great interview. I love how straight forward he is. No BS.

I love both our Kostitsyns.
But Sergi may need a kick in the butt. He is young enough and I think smart enough to able to handle a good smack in the by Gainey (Literally or a vaction in Hamilton).
Sergi will be a very very good hockey player but he needs to know that without working nothing will happen.

Was it... 2 weeks ago? About that... The Lang/SK/AK line had put up almost 30 points in the span of 6-7 games.
It always amazes me to see how ready the 'fans' are ready to throw players to the wolves after a couple lousy games.
we fans are allowed to criticize the players from time to time, lets say sergi scored 40 goals in a season, and the next he put in 5, are we not allowed to question his play at all in fear of being called not a true fan, give me a break, this is what some players need, a reminder that they arent producing or working hard enough and in sergi's case, even if he did help to create 30 points on that line, a stint in the minors might help him get back to that level again.
I agree. The Habs need a wake up call, but singling him out... Theres half a dozen other guys that should should join him down there. Experienced players. Anyways - I put together some stats over the first 17 days of January. Mainly for the Lang line - but for giggles I added Kovalev's stats for the 17 days as well.
Going from the 01/01/2009 -- 17/01/2008.
R. Lang
Goals: 5
Assists: 5
A. Kostitsyn
Goals: 7
Assists: 4
S. Kostitsyn
Goals: 2
Assists: 5
A. Kovalev
Goals: 3
Assists: 2

Except it's not an issue of one season to the next. It's only been three games.
hmm. Sergei has 20 points. Plekanec has 20 points, but has played 3 more games than Sergei. Sergei's career high is 27 - achieved last season. He's on pace for ~40 this season. Plekanec last season knocked up 69 points, and 47 the year before.
Granted he's not playing to ability we saw last year. But neither is Plekanec. Now i'm not saying we should get rid of Plekanec... But if your going to piss and moan about lack of productivity, I figured I'd point out the bigger lack of.
Readjust your sights folks. He's still a youngin. Latendress, O'Byrne, got tons of chances as we all sat in front of TV's pulling our hair out screaming at them to smarten up. I fail to see why Sergei shouldn't have that chance.

"What are you driving these days? What do you wish you could drive?
I am driving a Mercedes Benz CLS 55. And this is my dream car that I have now. I dreamt about this car for a long time. And now I bought it."
He's driving a car most never will(and it's his dream car), maybe that can motivate him to play a bit better? or at least get him to call his bro's cell and tell him off to play better?
"Finally, what do you enjoy most about hockey?
When I play with my brother and scores goals, or give passes to him and he scores goals."
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh, that's why you guys ignore Lang.
Liked his comments on Kovalchuk.
(repeating) Before (during) the All-star games, Kovalchuk sat down with Ovechkin and Malkin and made the two young guys ceased fire.

Too bad he does not discuss his own crappy play. Easy to be honest when it's not about you.
There were no questions asked about his play. Can't blame the player for the reporter not asking what you wanted him to.

Agreed. This was long my knock agaisnt reporters - too PC, afraid to offend poor little players with questions about their committment and level of play. Ah well... just thought I'd throw it out there.
Not that I'm a sports journalist or nuthin'...but I'm guessing that sticking a microphone in a player's face and asking "so why you sucking so hard this season?" is a pretty good way to guarantee a lousy interview. The point is to get players to open up, not tick them off.

Like I said, it's funny how we are afraid to offend 20 some year old who push a piece of rubber around the ice for millions of dollars.

I love this response "Laraque? I wouldn't fight him! This is not my weight category."
I also love that he's going to bring Kovalchuk over to the Habs, way to go Sergei!
That's a great interview and completely honest. You come away liking him a lot.
Now I hope he sat with Kovalchuk and convinced him to come.

great interview. love his line about crosby. many on this site are willing to trade him, but he's still quite young. he has a bright future ahead of him. i'd like to see him get more icetime.
I completely agree with his assessment. My own Q&A:
Q: When Crosby gets hurt, how do I feel?
A: Good that a competitor won't be playing, and indifferent as to his presence or absence in a game based on an enjoyment.
Q2: And Ovechkin?
A: Immediately upset for the game and the enjoyment we'll be missing. When he went down yesterday in second period I was nervous even though it would only be good for the Habs. When Crosby goes down. . . I get some form of enjoyment (as long as he's not hurt in a serious way - not suggesting I wish him ill).
Those Russian interviews by Puck Daddy are all awesome, starting with the Semin one a few months ago.
It's very refreshing to hear actual answers that reflect what the player thinks and feels as opposed to canned BS like we get on RDS or CBC.
It can't be only Russians that are able to give good interviews... what is happening to our players to make them so boring??
Amazing...
I love the last answer.
"Finally, what do you enjoy most about hockey?
When I play with my brother and scores goals, or give passes to him and he scores goals. "
Glad to hear they really get along.

Good ol' honest Sergei, he doesn't give BS answers like North American players, but you can tell he's somewhat biased towards Russians, which is understandable... I wish they would do a long Andrei Kostitsyn interview
About Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.
