Game 54: Canadiens embarrassed by Flames
posted by Kevin Mio at 23h22 EST on Feb 9
For a while, it looked as through Halak would withstand the onslaught by the Flames, but then the floodgates opened.
Matthew Lombardi, Dion Phaneuf and Dustin Boyd beat Halak as the Flames grabbed a 4-2 lead after 40 minutes. Lombardi and Phaneuf's goals came 32 seconds apart.
After that, it was pretty much game over as the Canadiens were simply no match for the Flames, who snapped a four-game losing streak in the process.
In the third period, Rene Bourque and David Moss, on the power play, added insult to injury as they increased the Calgary lead to 6-2.
In the end, Halak faced 41 shots, while the Canadiens could muster only 24 on Kiprusoff.
The Canadiens were 0-for-4 on the power play against the Flames, who were 1-for-5.
Montreal now heads north to play the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night.
