Will Jaroslav miss the game on Wednesday? It seems when things start going well for this team, there's always a hiccup. Is this Price's chance to gain some ground back?

Big Ryan back in the fold...I hope he does well...after all he has been through you want the guy to succeed...I would say there are some openings in the D if he wants a permanent job...
Hopefully Jaro is getting some good meds and drinking hot slovakian tea...

Anyone hear an update on Tanguay's return?
Why do we keep bringing O'Bryne up? Is Bob trying to showcase and use him as trade bait? Why not bring up Weber?
Anyone notice that Schneider's presence brings back the PP from the last two seasons? We now have someone with a shot that is on net!
One final thought: our defensive specialist coaches need to pass along some of their wisdom as the team is giving up too many shots! The goalies are facing far too much rubber!!!

I can see Ryder as being part of a trade for say Kaberle or Pronger. Though Burke denies shopping Kaberle.

I'm sure that Ryder report is from Bruce Garrioch, who's in the same class of "reporters" as Al Strachan. Bunch of F-ing windbags...

anyone have a timetable on Lats' return?
On an NHL philiosophical note....since the idea of a rental is now accepted although it was frowned upon just a few short years ago....is there a rule in place to prevent a team from trading a player who is under contract like a rental.....meaning they would then make a trade to reacquire him after the season despite his being under contract. Just curious...I know it shouldn't be allowed and would creat Survivor type alliances but ina round about way they already seem to exist with certain teams frequently dealing with each other. I am just wondering if anyone knows what is in place to prevent it......obviously the contract itself means that one team could simply hold onto the player but is that all that is preventing it? Seems with the salary cap restrictions and the difficulty moving players that something creative like this might happen soon...we already have Burke lobbying for the ability to eat salary and we all know how Kevin Lowe went out and got Penner.....just curious if anyone sees this happening down the road and one hell of a controversy following. Remember when Doug Weight left the Blues to help the Canes fully intending to return to the Blues after? is there a clause that prevents this with players under contract?

Submitted by likehoy on Mon, 03/02/2009 - 14:53.
there's a rule against trading a player to have him being traded back...but there's no rule against UFA i don't believe.
i remember a few years back the flames traded dean mcammond to the avalanche, then the avalanche traded him back to the flames...and mcammond was suspended.
"The next year, on October 1, 2002, he was traded from the Flames along with Jeff Shantz and Derek Morris to the Colorado Avalanche for Stéphane Yelle and Chris Drury. Eventually in the off-season he was dealt back to the Flames for the 2003–04 season. That year was part of the Flames' Stanley Cup run in the playoffs. McAmmond couldn't participate due to NHL regulations disallowing a player from being traded back to a team within 12 months on the same contract."

Glad to see my first cousin Jeff Shantz mentuioned on thois forum. About time!

thank you ...so the clause is one year.....interesting still as a longer term loan could take place and still not violate league rules.....i am just bored today and trying to pass the time until wednesday becuase I keep finding myself visiting Hockeybuzz every 15 minutes and I knew I needed to stop! In theory then a team like us could go after a guy like Vinny with a 1 year plus a playoff stretch in my mind and then deal Vinny right back after the 2010 playoffs.....I wonder if it would be a conflict of interest if you skirted the 12 month rule?

Im hoping that this move is just so hes available to trade by Wednesday!

Submitted by t1tan5 on Mon, 03/02/2009 - 14:41.
I would take Jokinen if he came at a fair price. People say he has no playoff experience. Look at the teams he played for: LA Kings, Florida Panthers, and Phoenix Coyotes. These aren't exactly world-beaters. The only thing we can draw from his lack of playoff experience is that we don't know if he is or isn't a playoff performer. What if he turns out to be the NHL's version of Reggie Miller? He could equally turn out to be a Joe Thornton type, but we don't know. So let's take a chance on him. He's a big centre who has a scoring touch. You have to gamble if you want to win.
Regarding the other 2 schmos. I do not want Guerin nor Tkachuck on this team. Both are way over the hill and both of them are PROVEN to disappear during the playoffs.

Submitted by likehoy on Mon, 03/02/2009 - 14:47.
jokinen was traded for 2 quality dmen in boynton and ballard
ryan whitney was traded for a top6 + prospect
jokinen will probably go for top6 player + dman prospect.
so higgins + weber, or higgins + subban
create a finnish connection by playing jokinen on koivu's wing...but jokinen's no teemu selanne.

Submitted by stanley25 on Mon, 03/02/2009 - 14:56.
This trade makes sens. I would rather see Jokinen center Tanguay and Lats or Dagger. Koivu could pivot a solid shut down line with Lapierre and Pacioretty on the wings. That would leave a combo of BGL, TK, Stewie and either Lats or Dagger on a fourth line centered by Metropolit.
Still missing a brusing top 4 D-man but the Habs would shure look good up front.
And now, a 25th banner will hang on the rafters of the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens win the Stanley cup!

Looks like Ken Holland is taking a page from BG's book times about THREE! Holland has apparently told Chris Osgood to take a week off to rest and get his head on straight. If the Wings make a deal for a goalie, it might be a much longer rest! :)

No Guerin
No Jokinen
No Tkachuk
Guerin: Knock on him is he's become a selfish player on and off the ice. We definitely don't need more locker room drama
Jokinen: As has already been mentioned, he has 0 playoff experience. He has also appeared unmotivated the entire season playing for Gretzky (so imagine how he would fare with Carbo lol). This could be more because of the situation Phoenix finds itself in but I'm still not sold on this big Finn.
Tkachuk: According to Darren Dreger (TSN) the Blues might actually be buyers at the deadline because they are on the brink of a playoff berth (rumors have been floating around that Pronger might be going back to St Louis). This would rule out Tkachuk and Weight being moved as rental players.
I think it would probably be a good idea to stand pat unless we can make a play for J Bou. Other than that I don't really wanna sell our soul to pick up a guy who won't be here come July.
What does everyone think about getting Mark Recchi to come back to Montreal? The old vet had 5 assists last night!!

I think it has less to do with Gretzky as it does to being in Phoenix...YAWN. Playing hockey in front of the thousands of screaming fans...oh wait, that's Montreal.
Now, replace Phoenix with Montreal and voila, hockey heaven.
As far as 0 playoff experience, it just means he's due.

Weight is an islander...an injured one but one that could really help a team as he is a vet center who can also help on the pp and play effectively as a two way center despite his age. I was thinking he would be our backup plan until we picked up Metropolit......the difference in salary and fucntion is relative to the salary but I see no reason why we wouldn't try and make use of every penny we can and as it stands we still have room to add a 4 million dollar palyer (from what I haveread...and we could always send some salary the other way to create more room ,etc). The idea of us not attempting to use our salary seems ridiculous to me so I fully expect that the moves will continue.

Regarding O'Byrne, I like the kid. He has size, something we're in short supply of, but he just doesn't know how to use it to his advantage. The biggest problem with him is body positioning. I've seen him get knocked down by players 4-5 inches shorter and 30 lbs lighter. He needs power-skating lessons and some one-on-one coaching from someone who's been there before. Too bad all our coaching staff are forwards. We could use someone like Larry Robinson to work with our younger Dmen. Although, sometimes it looks like our veterans could use a refresher course as well.

I doubt very much that we're gonna get any kind of significant trade. It never happens, Gainey picks up a few small deals along the way but never nails the big fish. Which is fine, I'm glad he wont sell the farm, as they say, for rentals. Would be nice to see a Tkchuk/Jokinen/Guerin type force on the first line tho...We wont get that for Higgin alone tho which is why Gainey wont make a deal again this year.
