Just got in. Heard CKAC say that Marky is 3 weeks away and Schneider finished for the season.
Feel terrible sayin what I said about Marky yesterday. Stands to reason he won't fake the injury for THREE WEEKS just to prove me wrong. Guess he WAS hurt on the play. Oops.
I take responsibility for Marky's injury, mates. Any future deficiencies in play relating to his absence that fosters rants of vicious perspicacity? You may direct them at me.
Schneider wasn't my fault, but his long absence makes it so that the posters who goofily suggested the rapatriation of Weber...well, doesn't sound so silly anymore. Apologize for that too.
Ugh...so WHO do we want to play in the playoffs now?
Hey, can we postpone the series? You know, cite weather or bad ice or a union strike at the Bell, somethin?
"Yeah, sorry, Washington, yeah, we gotta postpone this series, sorry. Bad luck, what can we say? We WANT to but...there's wild geese all over the ice! No, we don't know how it happened. Oh well, come back next week; we'll be ready!"
Would that work, I wonder?
Peace Out

Hmmmm...I'd rather have Kostitsyn in and Dandy on D than a pairing with O'Byrne and Janik.

Submitted by Tom S. on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 15:49.
Should we win tonight - minus Markov, Schneider, Kostitsyn X 2, Price - it would really benefit us greatly in the playoffs in terms of confidence, and we know that confidence coupled with hard work, a solid game-plan and a little luck can go a long way.
Submitted by Habsforlife 1959 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 16:06.
How about these guys too, Robert Lang, Matt D'Agostini & Francis Bouillon. Were would the Habs be with a healthy lineup? Should be a great game tonight. GO HABS GO!!! A win will put more pressure on the other teams that is behind us. Sens having nothing to lose and should give our Habs a test on what this team is made off.

Falling into deaf ears, I’ll repeat my point again.
Having Dandy up front allows Gainey to have 7 defensemen in. If any 6 D-man gets injured or if Janik/O’Byrne doesn’t work out, Dandy will come to save the day. Metro or Stewie can play w/ Plekanec and Higgins and BGL can come in here and there sporadically to calm some tempers.
Great call by Gainey. He’s two shots ahead!
Keep whining you know it all fans!
And now, a 25th banner will hang on the rafters of the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens win the Stanley cup!

I'd rather stick with the one owner way of things. Imagine all those guys tryng to have their say and fighting to be the main man, even though Gillett would still retain the majority. Would be a mess. Look at Toronto. I love Gillett's way of doing things. Supply the money and don't interfere with the hockey people. It would be sad if he had to sell.

Ouch! O'Byrne - Janik. Dandy should be playing D...even with Markov and Schneider in, never mind out.

Submitted by ManApart on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 15:14.
Guess BG sees him as more valuable as a forward. I did agree forward was the place for him, up until now. For this situation I think you have to insert Dandy, instead of O'Byrne or Janik. Then AK46 comes in on 2nd line. I guess we'll see how those two young guys play tonight. Well, Janik is not young, but you get my point.

wow, TSN power rankings has the Canadiens (5-0-1 in the last six) at 16 while Philly (who have won one in 4) and NJ (who have lost 6 of 7) sit 9th and 4th, respectively. How can anyone who has watched hockey in the last 2 weeks possibly think this?

the Hockey News also has them ranked 16th.

Submitted by itpf on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 14:20.
i've been watching those rankings all year. Habs always seem to be ranked lower than I'd think they should be, and it was the same way last year. I'm guessing it's cause they are based largely on individual player stats. this year the habs don't have any really high scorers and last year, aside from Kovy, most of the scoring was very spread out. So when you look at the individual stats the team might look less dangerous than it really is.
That ranking p*sses me off every week~!

Submitted by Malreg on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 14:16.
Their power rankings are heavily influenced by injuries. When a teams leading scorer and defenceman as well as their second powerplay specialist are injured, I guess they can't rate a team very high.

Submitted by habfan53 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 14:08.
I know I saw that also there are 4 teams with worse records that are higher ranked. I wonder if he dropped them because Markov and Schneider are hurt.
BUT Florida is 3 spots higher and they are 3 points back????

Well its not like the schedule was that tough.

Submitted by jmsheehy19 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 14:10.
well the thrashers were very hot when we beat them, Buffalo was fighting for the playoff lives when we lost to them, and Chicago is a top 4 team in the West. And when is handily beating teams you should beat less impressive then getting raped by pitt 6-1 and getting shutout by the Rangers 3-0.
Also NJ lost 6 of its last 8, so my bad on that one

Submitted by The Cat on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 14:26.
Well what can I tell you, NJ played tougher teams and on the road. I dont put much stock into power rankings but Im guessing thats the kind of logic that goes behind it.

Submitted by Drive_For_25 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 13:59.
Ok it's now completely official. This team was not destined to do anything this year. I'm pretty sure we were destined to miss the playoffs so we are really defying all the odds right now. Even though the team has played completely horrible for parts of this year, and it was almost unexplainable how bad they were playing, you watch those games closely and on top of playing horrible, we weren't getting one bounce go our way on anything, not passes, not shots, definitely not goals. The only bounces we would get were ones into our own net! Now we start playing some good games, and it seems like every time we play a great one at least one player gets injured, WTF!! That's my view of it anyway. It's the classic tale of the backfire of the off-season hype. Just look at sports last year: Detroit Tigers (from windsor so I heard a lot even though I hate baseball) - 2nd highest salary in the league, coming off world series appearance, winning it for sure right? Nope, missed the playoffs. Dallas Cowboys - 11 or some other ridiculously high number of pro bowlers returning great draft, best team in football right? Nope, missed the playoffs. All the Habs hype was great but to tell you the truth it felt like a whole *** ton of bandwagon jumping and it felt a lot better to finish first last year when everyone predicted us to be bottom feeders. Even if we were to win it all this year, everyone else but habs fans would play it off like, so what, they're a great team and we knew they would do this, but when we falter they pretty much say the same thing that they could see this coming and we were an overacheiving team.
Enough ranting, peace out.

... Our 'D' will be fine tonight as long as everybody plays it simple and no one over does it (right Komo & Hammer). Our team has been playing well by having everybody playing their roles and i expect that to continue tonight. BTW the Aves had only two regular 'D' last night and the other four 'D' had a total of 14 games experience in the NHL and they beat the Canucks 4 to 1 in Vancouver.

Submitted by habfan53 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 13:20.
A couple of thoughts:
What is everybody so worried about. Any combination of 2 Montreal wins or N.Y. or Florida losses and we are in.
I was hoping for a Florida win last night because with a win tonight we move up to 6th. We still have a stong chance for 5th or even 4th.
Congratulations Alexei Kovalev on being NHL 1st star of the week.
With Markov and Schneider out I would rather see Dandeneault back on Defence but I'll give Gainey the benefit of Knowledge.

this will be just another test to our teams character --- with all that has happened to this team this season there is part of me that thinks through all this adversity we are actually going to be going into the playoffs in a good postion. Everything this team has went through has hardend this team as a unit. Can we not say they are the most battle tested team in the NHL this season? injuries, conflicts, media, rumors, two months of horrible hockey, carbo...... this list is endless really name me one other team in the NHL this season who has gone through as much termoil as the habs have this season? ..... i think we are going to surprise everyone including me and the rest of you the damage we can do when we hit the playoffs ....
how sweet would it be this season to come through all this team has come through and overcome and build character, play for eachother and the hounored CH upon thier chest and go deep if not win it all?
every team or any team we face going into the playoffs are looking at us as nothing but underdogs right now a long shot ...... i believe they are all going to be shocked when the habs take the cup this season.

Every time Komo shoots I expect it to hit a player on the opposing side and never to make it anywhere near the net. That all changed when Komo scored recently. Gorges scored recently too!!!!! Maybe the D have been practicing how to shoot to hit the net and not the player.
One thing for sure, losing Schneider and Markov is a huge test of the team's depth. I guess dressing Janik means BG is making use of his Steve Begin trade. I am not sure about Janik's defensive or offensive skills but he sure knows how to throw a punch.

what do we think about when Markov and Schneider will be back? some Montreal tv/readio analyst out there must have a sense for this info? Since Gainey is not saying they'll play tomorrow against The Rangers could their injuries be serious?

Submitted by jmsheehy19 on Mon, 04/06/2009 - 12:30.
I'm more worried about PP production taking a hit then how O'byrne and Janik will play. Both are very stay at home defensemen so you know neither will have to make up for their partner gambling. Besides I've thought O'byrne looked solid ever since his stint in Hamilton. I think that pairing should play well, they aren't going to make any mindblowing plays but as a shutdown pair they could excel.

WOW!! Markov and Schneider not playing tonight? Ouch, that got to hurt somewhat. Habs might have one the game against the Leafs but it came with a big price tag. I'm very surprize Graborski has not been suspend for his temp to injury on Plekanec. That definitely was a spear and caught Markov in an awkward position. Habs needs to give him his utmost disrespect next season when the Habs face those lowly Leafs. Someone better clock this individual during the preseason. Lets get a major hate on for the Leafs next season. I'm going to say that Markov most likely won't be back until Saturday night against Pittsburg. Worse case scernio. Go Habs Go!!!

I think Dandy is very good on defense, but I think BG likes his speed up front. He and Max put a whole lot of pressure on the other team's defense going in there at full speed. It often causes turnovers because the defense is nervous and rushing things.
Price is not ready.
