... Strange Season for Glen Metropolit .. Boston.com ..... http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/extras/bruins_blog/ ..... (an Excerpt) ..... "We fired [Guy Carbonneau] the first week that I was here and Bob Gainey took over," said Metropolit. "It was like Super Bowl Sunday every day in that dressing room with all the media. It was pretty crazy. At the same time, with the adversity we went through as a team, I think it really helped us right now. We've got two big games coming up. Everybody knows how important they are, obviously, with where we stand in the playoff race."

Laraque and Stewy officially not playing tonight...!!! Why oh WHYYY??!!
Schneider is going to the game...and during the warm-up right befor the beginning of the game, he will confirm if he plays..
i think he will
Submitted by Habadabadoo (not verified) on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 17:34.
I think not playing Laraque and Stewart tonight is a huge mistake. I like the positive/tough energy they bring and don't we have a score to settle with Mr. Lucic?
Perhaps Gainey's thinking is he doesn't want to 'fire up' the Bruins any more than necessary or risk have them go after/injure some of our players?? perhaps Gainey figures we'll draw the Bruins into taking overly-aggressive penalties by being patient/skilled?

Gainey is too professional, and sometimes does things without common sense, no Laraque, no Stewart, NO SENSE AT ALL.
Gainey is stubborn sometimes. Calling up Webber (instead of Yanik) and playing Dandeneault on D should have happened before Ottawa game not Boston game.

Some people are saying this or that about Schneider playing tonight, all im saying is watch the way he shoots the puck in this clip from today!
http://watch.tsn.ca/featured/#clip159603
He doesnt look too injured to me!

Submitted by Chuck on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 17:04.
It depends on which shoulder is injured. If it's not his power shoulder he should be ok to go.
Submitted by Hockey11 on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:59.
Rest assured that Claude Julien will do everything within his power to not allow the man who fired him to clinch a playoff spot in his building. Can you blame him?

Submitted by koivuisgod on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:42.
if schneider isn't able to get any velocity behind his shots why dress him? lets be honest about it, hes not a very good 5on5 d-man. his specialty is his shot from the point on the powerplay. hes only risking re injuring it.i think he should sit out until he can shoot

Submitted by crabvader on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 17:27.
He can QB the PP with Weber, if he can shoot, so be it but I'm guessing he's gonna pass to an open Weber for the shooting.

Submitted by Gary320 on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:57.
They are dressing 7 D's. So likely you will see Schneider get PP time. Thats not a good time for Bruins to hit players...
He will likely play under 10 mins thats what IM guessing.
On another note, Id much rather see a 60/70% Schneider on the PP than Komisarek.. god hes awful on the PP.

Can someone please, please tell me WHY either Stewart or Laraque wouldn't be in the line up against the Bruins?? I just don't understand it. At ALL.

Submitted by Corporate on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:30.
I think what it will come down to is:
1) Hoping that Schneider does not make the injury worse by playing tonight.
2) Lets see if Plky and company can have some kind of life.
3) Our Goalie will have to make miracles tonight because we have old, tired D.
4) The first line will be checked very closely and don't expect them to do much.
But what i lvoe is that for one more day we have hope. GO HABS GO!!!

Will Gainey despatch Kosto to fight with Lucic?
Submitted by nightmare_49 on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:28.
To those so called experts that have said that Yannick Weber is far too small at 5'10" and 193 pounds to play 'D' in the NHL i must point out that the Blue Jackets have a 'D' by the name of Kris Russell (67th overall/2005) who has played 131 games in his first two professional seasons in the NHL at 5'10" - 180 and was 167 pounds when he first landed a spot on their blue line. This offensive minded 'D' is the brother of the Hab's Ryan Russell now playing in Hamilton.

Submitted by SmartDog on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:24.
The Schneider turn-around is weird... so let's assume the doctor said "you need an operation and shouldn't play - you're done", but Schneider himself decided "If I can stand the pain I'm going to play"... and that's what he's going to try to do.
The article said he can't (or won't) take hard shots. What kind of injury does this suggest? Shoulder?
~ Listen to the smart dog - he knows his poop!

When I watch games on tv, I find myself stunned by the difference in atmosphere between the Bell Centre and anywhere else. A great example is the last Habs-Leafs game. In Montreal, the chanting, yelling, whatever never stops. In the ACC, it sounded like a funeral home.

Submitted by CentreHice on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:00.
When people refer to the Montreal Canadiens, they say things like honor, tradition, and the birthplace of hockey.
As fans, we love telling other teams about the long standing traditions of the Habs. The most succesful franchise in all of sports. The old Forum ghosts. 100 years of hockey tradition.
Where does the ole ole chant have a place in that tradition?
It's a european soccer chant! Why not sing the "take me out to the ball game" or the fighting irish football song? Those are fun too.
Ole ole is such a gimmick!
I think that it is hypocritical to talk about 24 Stanley cups and a tradition of winning, and then say that ole ole is appropriate for cheering for the Canadiens.

Submitted by mrhabby on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:20.
what about the Yankees as the most succesful franchise in sports...just saying.

Submitted by forskis on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:21.

Submitted by aemarchand11 on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:14.
Tradition..
I beleive the Ole Ole Ole chant is now part of the habs tradition post lockout.
I dont really look at it as a soccer chant, as I see it more as appreciation for our hockey club. A hockey club we never want to go without for another season.
Go Habs Go is iconic, but all teams have the option of using it, when we sing Olé it shows that we are different from other boring hockey clubs.

Are you going to keep posting the same thing over and over again until people start agreeing?
Clearly the ole chant is a very popular one with the fans and it's an unwavering show of support to the team. The Bell Centre gets deafeningly loud when we start chanting, and isn't that what it's all about? Being loud and supporting our team?
But instead of telling you that I (and many, many, many others) think it's a great tradition, let me instead ask you what you would rather be chanted in the Bell Centre? You sound like the kind of guy who would have opposed the Go Habs Go chant when in started and favoured a golf clap for a spectacular play, but I'm interested to know.

When it first started it was during Theodore's good days...I always thought they were chanting "Jose Jose"...maybe that is where it came from.

Submitted by forskis on Thu, 04/09/2009 - 16:09.
There are no words in Ole Ole that define it as a "soccer chant" just because it is sung there only/mostly does not give it exclusivity...that is like saying people can sing "We Will Rock You" at only football games...it is called adding new traditions to go with the old....people ENJOY and have FUN with the Ole Ole, would you rather that the team ban for life every person who sings it?
Also, several of those soccer teams who sing it have been around WAY longer than the Habs and have just as rich or even richer traditions and histories.

Hamrlik-Komisarek
Dandy-Brisebois
Gorges-Schneider
this may not be the exact lines, but this is what it should be...you really can't push gorges into a #1d spot....hamrlik is much more suited to tack on extra minutes....I would also alternate Weber and Schneider every few shifts just to keep Weber on his toes and warm for the PP and to make sure Schneider does collapse....Another change i was thinking might be beneficial was to put Stewart in for Laraque....adds speed and I think Lucic wud be more enticed to dance with Stewy....on teh downside, we can't have the pleasure of watchign laraque skate around throwing lucic off his game and claude julien sweating profusely while yelling at bob gainey...i bet he's wanted to for a while

The ole ole chant has to stop. We are known throughout the league as having the best arena and best fans, but the ole chant is absolutely horrible.
