Carbo speaks

When his difficulties as a communicator were cited, Carbonneau admitted he wasn't a big talker but hasted to add that "failure to communicate" if the most-frequently mentioned reason when a coach is fired.
On off-ice issues, Carbo said "some of these players are 20, 21, 22 years old. They have a lot of money, and they like to have fun."
Carbonneau said he tried to exert some measure of control over off-ice activities, but "you can't watch them 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year."
When host Guy A. Lepage asked if Carey Price's problems were "between his ears or between his legs", Carbo defended the goaltender.
"He's 21 years old and he's playing a position that's very difficult in the NHL today – harder than it was in the 1950s right up through the 1980s."
Would he have left Price in against Boston in the playoffs?
"I can't say," Carbonneau replied diplomatically.
Carbonneau said the atmosphere in hockey-mad Montreal can be "suffocating."
"You don't want to play where there's no interest and an empty arena," Carbonneau said. "But there are times when it's too much."
Then Lepage popped the big question:
If Bob Gainey left and if the team were sold and if the dressing room were purged of bad apples, would Guy Carbonneau like to come back as coach of the Caadiens?
The response, which drew wild applause:
"Yes."
