It appears that the Canadiens have accepted the fact that defenceman Mike Komisarek is not coming back, and they're moving on with an even larger blue-line acquisitions.
Montreal this afternoon signed stay-at-home defenceman Hal Gill to a two-year contract.
Gill adds considerable size to the blueline at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds but he's yet another left-handed shot and he's not the most mobile player. He had two goals and eight assists in 62 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins last season.
The 34-year-old has played 851 games with Boston, Toronto and Pittsburgh.
Yeah, that'll bring you guys the Cup....Yeah, that's the ticket...yeah, yeah...
Gill!! HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Best thing the Bruins Ever did getting rid of Gill!!
Wait, he just won the Cup with the Penguins... why come here next season?
---------- I am down but never out for their elimination from the playoffs. They will come back next year. Thanks for the Centennial, can't wait for 101st...
So now....
Markov Gill
Hammrlik Gorges
Spacek O'Byrne
One to move the puck, one to stay home and mind the shop.
Bring along Weber, resign Dandy or Cube later on when everyone else passes. Breezer, thanks for the memories.
How much for Gill?
Maybe it would've been a good idea to get some goons with our smurfs... You know, for insurance?
Peace Out

It didn't help last season. I think The Code just kept getting in the way. Do you think that there might be some way to piss Gill off on a regular basis before he takes the ice? With his size that would probably do.
All Gainey needs to do now is add Gaborik and Beauchemin and we're cool.
Either that or flip Gomez for Heatley straight-up and THEN sign Havlat.
If he pulls one of those remaining moves off?
Like I said, we're cool.
Peace Out

oh no not camalleri..his last name ends with a vowel.
he has 2 m's in his name.
his number is unlucky: 13
now that i covered all the reason's why some of the posters here would whine
i think this is a great signing...a big name and a proven scorer :D
--- we need a kovalev
You guys wanted a goal scorer.
40 fucking goals for this guy last year.
We havent had that kind of talent in years.
I am excited.
Okay, with Cammalleri, I'm less pissed off...
We look to be pretty set on D, and down the middle. Looking forward to seeing which wingers Bob signs. Hows everyone feeling about the acquisitions?
All of a sudden this ain't looking too bad.
Gainey I DEMAND that you sign Kovalev or I will remove myself from the 3 year waiting list for season tickets.
what would they do with out you. They are about to refinance their morgage on the New Forum. ***.
Gill to replace Komo? Not sure Komo would have done two years at 5 mil with us, but that would have been a better deal.
Does Gomez replace Koivu?

Koivu and Komo. Two players that grew up with the Habs and have bled for them. Two players I would prefer to watch. Gill and Gomez? Whatever.
Cammalerri and Gomez is a HUGE upgrade over koivu and tanguay.
You add kovalev to this team and we are set.
I agree with you. It would have been nice to have more size up the middle, but you can't dispute that this is a big improvement in talent.
There wasn't a lot of size available with any talent.
A lot of the time they are mutually exclusive - the likes of nathan horton and eric staal are few and far between in this league.
I've liked Cammalleri since his Michigan days. With Pacioretty, all we need is one more guy to have an all-Wolverine line.

The Montreal Canadiens have signed free agent centre Mike Cammalleri to a five-year, $30 million contract, sources tell Sportsnet...
Pierre Maguire has nothing intelligent to say..cocky sob.
He should take his Leafs affair public.
I agree with you geo_habsgo well said I listened to nite to TSN it was all about TORONTO & the other teams, what great trades they all made but as usual Habs they figure will go sideways.... What ever that means..not a good thing to say about our Habs..PIERRE MAGUIRE not intelligent & COCKY SNOB is putting it mildly..................I would like to call him something else...............but won"t. Most of the annoncers on TSN have a smirk on their faces when talking about the HABS...........they can all go you no where.
ken holland, i think he knows a thing or two about building a team, says size is overrated. skill rules. camallari has very good skills, tough around the net and scores a ton of goals.
100% agree with you.
Size is an excuse that too many teams and their fans use, when they realize that their players suck.
Its true he is tough around the net, keep hearing hes difficult to get along with.
TSN reporting Cammalleri sign with habs. he's 5'8". welcome to the Montreal Midgets!
so much for Gainey wanting to get bigger down the middle.
he's 5'9 and he's a sniper....God what more do you want?
Link?
ill take cammeleri
Youre an idiot.
Cammalleri is insanely talented.
Cammalleri + Gomez could be fantastic.
one of the top goal scorers in last three years. you are tough to please.
Camaleri!!!!! earlier I thought we were going to ice Larry Robinson's old team - the Brockville Braves!
Everyone take some Valume.
point is that Gainey keeps saying that they have to get bigger , Vinny no Gomez yes , Hossa no Cammellari yes ...just saying
fair enough
Darren Millard from sportsnet.ca says habs have signed mike camalerri for 5 years, 30 mil!
cammeleri to habs is rumoured
lmao, tsn says who will sign all-star defenceman mike komisarek? I guess they forgot how he got into the all star game.
They should just change it from Free Agent Frenzy to Bash the Habs Extravaganza.
my 1000 votes.
lmao, true. Great job, your 1000 votes made komi an allstar dman and is now too expensive for us to re-sign. You have only yourself to blame tony, lmao.
I like the Hal Gill grab,he's a big MF AND GOT THE REACH OF A Giraffe to make up for the slow skating. He's the best poke checker there is....
never heard of Chara have you LOL at your post
I hope Gainey has some other moves planned because after the letting three top 4 Dmen leave as FA without compensation and the signing of Gomez , Gainey is vying with Rejean Houle as the worst GM ever .
mjames
komi i understand will hurt us, but who else, bouillon? dandy? comparing houle to gainey is ridiculous.
What a bunch of crap never saw so much negative stuff. So many experts with empty brains.
No matter who we sign will never be good enough.
Vic ... think of the past few weeks ...it was well stated and known we needed size up front .. down the middle specifically ... we were talking lecavalier ... we get Cammaleri and Gomez ... ouch .. Cammeleri is described as a PP Specialist ...
millard reports 5 year 30 mil
bye bye Alex then
which alex? say tanguay and i can live with it..say kovalev and i will die
$ 6 mill for Cammellari will Kovy come back for less ???
With Koivu gone Kovalev becomes the only real captain the team has. Take him out of the picture and who will captain? I think Kovalev has more value than people think and I hope Gainey realizes that.
Go to Canadiens.com and look at the current roster and try not to cry.
This is turning into a nightmare. I have visions of mariusz czerkawski, donald audette, and sergei samsonov.
"we are a fast team, a skilled team!"
With Hal Gil?
Too slow for the LAFFS but ok for the Habs.

problem i have is they are both left handed d-men
sportsnet is reporting habs signing Cammalleri, Michael
Link for this, can't find it anywhere?
its posted, 5 years 30 mil!!!
Nowhere on the website is this listed
go to the live chat.. millard is blogging.. says sportsnet is breaking it.. just passing on what im reading... 5 year 30 mil
u sure?
is this serious?!?
Lemme guess: 10 years, 90 million?
Peace Out

All I can say is bring back Breez...4.5 over 3... He is so underrated.
We need him like a good case of Herpes.
how much does a case of herpes cost now ??
when exactly was Komi "hard" really. yapping and fase washing aside.
yeah Spacek and Gill will really terrify opposing forwards
Komi did not really do that. to who? don't get me wrong I like him and all but enough with all this "he so tough" nonsence. I watched them play boston. come on. name one HUGE hit he laid on someone. Their were hits but he ain't Scott Stevens and he was BAD with the puck, Even O'Byrneesque at times during the end of the season. I
no defensemen on pittsburg or detroit struck fear into opposing forwards. this isn't the 90's. they had skilled puck moving defensemen who played very well positionally and leaned on people when necessary. markov doesn't strike fear into opposing players, but he takes the puck away and moves it quickly.
Hal Gill is a puck moving defenseman ??
Morkov strikes fear into anyone paying attention. cause the puck actually leaves the Zone.
He played for the Leafs don't forget,!!, he must have a tough skin to have put in hard time there. Plays for a championship as a 4th D. Comes to Mtl. and plays 5th D, good move Bob.
LOL
I make this promise: if Gainey signs Havlat, Gaborik AND Beauchemin, I will forgive him his boneheaded Gomez move.
Best I can do.
Peace Out

man......
8 million for gomez.......
man..........
Gainey had better sign Havlat or Gaborik! I also will forgive him should this happen...
No problem just send a message we want sign them and done deal, right?
Did anyone notice that whenever TSN shows highlights of other hockey teams they ALWAYS show them scoring against the Habs? It seems like they just hate us on that station.
LOL I was thinking that today
lol i've wondered about that for years now...
What, the Toronto Sports Network?
Noooo, not them...
Peace Out

Taylor Hall on the 2010-2011 roster
Ugghh... I remembers Hal Gill's days in Toronto. They were NOT Pleasant ones for the Leaf fans around here. Think I remember a ticker tape parade for when he was traded/let walk away.
These signings smack of desperation on Bob Gainey's part. I'm not seeing a "Master Plan" here. Offence Bob, we need a goal scorer. If you're gonna blow some money away, get a consistent goal scorer.
Don't pull a Sather and sign for players that will not gel together on the ice, get into EGO fights and flop for big money.
I'm a Habs fan, not a Rangers fan. Please Bob some thought before the money cannon is shot off.
team is being built for jaques martin. from the net out. we have price - halak. defense is now solid
markov - hammer
spacek - gorges
gill - weber - o'byrn
now we need two top line forwards and we still have 21 mil in cap space (though about half of it will have to go to restricted FAs)
Man im sick of O'bryne...
spacek , georges , gill , obyrne , oh yeah the rest of the NHL is trembling , hahahahahahaha
Where are the young blueliner prospects?
Weber, ok. O'bryne?
A huge man, CUP WINNER (we just added 3 rings to the locker room) and another character guy.. we could have used a little older attitude last season.
Are there any fans on Habs sites? Haters are out and about today...
Haters... i.e. Leaf, Bruins and those who prefer Quebecois players (no matter how good they are) over anyone else. After having watched the crap we iced last year, I've very hopeful... at least now we have a defense that can hit and move the puck. Plus with 4 veterans, there's room to bring up Weber and PK as 5th and 6th, under less pressure and vet guidance. Good moves!
i agree. we were short on character last year big time. we were a gong show. i am in the minority here, but i believe we are better now. gomez is better than koivu. i'd like to keep koivu as a second line center, but that isn't going to happen. we are better on d now. hab fans are hard to please.
