Jacques Martin has filled out his coaching staff by hiring longtime assistant coach Perry Pearn and goaltending coach Pierre Groulox.
Both additions have a history with Martin. Pearn, a career coach, was Martin's assistant from 1996 to 2004 with the Ottawa Senators. He has spent most of the past five seasons with the New York Rangers. He started his NHL career as an assistant with the Winnipeg Jets and guided Canada's national junior team to a gold medal at the 1993 world championships.
Groulx worked for Martin in both Ottawa and Florida. He was the video coach for the Senators for five seasons. He filled the same role in Florida for two seasons before being promoted to goaltender coach, a post he has held for the past two seasons, first under Martin and later under Peter De Boer.
I don't know. Sounds like Pearn is a definite upgrade on Jarvis, but Groulx?
The Laughs hire All-world goalie coach François Allaire… and we get Pierre "Who?". Gainey has bet the farm on Price and fired a respected goalie coach in Melanson, only to put The Franchise in the hands of a guy with no stature? Was Groulx even a goalie before? If so, he never played in the NHL. It sounds like he was mostly a video assistant until Martin gave him his break with the Panthers.
Besides, Miami had already decided not to keep him (see this link: http://www.miamiherald.com/621/story/1088215.html), so we are in fact picking up the reject of a team that didn't even make the playoffs. Shouldn't we instead steal from the best, as Burke did when he got Allaire?
Will Price, who stuggled with discipline and didn't develop under Melanson, respect Groulx or even listen to him?
The March to Mediocrity continues!
Quo vadis, Bob?
Under this coaching staff the Habs might be the Florida Pathers of the pass. Could it be not making the playoffs under this coaching staff? I'm starting to believe there is more behind this in what actually happen last season in the Habs dressing room? Habs are going to be in tough within the conference. Boston will win the division and its up for grabs on the remaining teams. I believe the Habs will finish rock bottom. Did Florida ever make the playoffs under Martin? Answers please.
I don't know, those Sens games were all really boring to watch! Yawn, oh well, the depressed GM finds an equally depressed coach to bring, Yawn, boring defensive style play to what was otherwise a fast paced Habs team that has been gutted so Martin can give us Yawn, boring really really boring games, wonder if Martin will put the kiss of death on the junior habs too?
I still don't understand why Eric Desjardins left the Flyers to "pursue other interests" if an assistant coaching job for the Canadiens wasn't one of those "other interests."
My money (all two cents of it) says that he'll be announced soon as an assistant coach to work with the D-men.

GO HABS GO!
Brisboise to coach the defence?????????
Wow! This is Jacques' team!
Liek I said before, don't expect us to be a solid playoff contender for the Cup for many years but we'll play entertaining hockey to sold out games in Montreal.
If I'm wrong, please shoot me.
"We will win the Cup one day only with a mature Carey Price in the nets"

Kovy and Koivu - you guys will be missed
Don't really care, show me results and I'll applaud.
So who's going to coach the defence??? Or are we soooo great on the back end that we don't need a d-coach again this season...
Bring in Chris Chelios as 7th d-man/ass't coach
all very predicatable ..pearn was rumoured as soon as martin was bought on board. as for the other guy never heard of him.
I think it is great for the Habs to have hired Perry Pearn as an assistant coach. He used to run special teams under Martin in Ottawa and their special teams had been outstanding.
The pieces of the puzzle are starting to fall into place. But are they the right pieces? Only time will tell...
Alright, maybe I missed it, but did we hire a dman to coach the defense yet? Thought that would be a priority
that's what i was thinking. only Martin knows. Pearns must definitely be an upgrade to our PP. so that leaves Muller on D? or maybe Martin is the defence specialist.
No, they said that Muller is staying.
The thing I like about Muller is that he seems to really be plugged in to what he's doing. He was like that as a player (though never my favorite), he gives it. As a coach in interviews he actually has interesting things to say, he seems emotionally involved with the team. And he has great hair!

Florida had some really solid goaltending in Craig Anderson and with Vokoun last year. I like, I like.

Not sure which Gainey bandwagon I'm on right now.
Not familiar enough with them, what style do they play?
The kind that stops pucks. I think Anderson averaged something like a .930 SV% with Florida over the past 3 years. Not sure with respects to Butterfly style etc.

Vokoun is a little like Halak in that they are quick and just slightly unorthodox, and Anderson plays similarly to Pricey in that he's a big body playing the angles more then highlight reel saves.
Sounds like a good match for us then.
If Anderson was the product of coaching, then I'm stoked about this acquisition. He was one of the best goalies nobody talked about last year.
Don't know anything about these guys but I can say one thing: they don't come from teams we'd want to be more like.

Excuse me? Pearn is a great PK coach/defensive coach and Groulx worked with Anderson who was a huge surprise goaltender this year along with Clemmensen. Pearn was also part of that INSANE Ottawa Senators squad. I think we'll be fine.
