The case was dismissed Thursday in Quincy District Court. Nilan, a
former Boston Bruin and Montreal Canadien, was ordered to pay $100 in
court costs and to stay away from the store.
Police said the
51-year-old Milton resident and James P. McGettrick, 43, of Weymouth,
went into a dressing room on Wednesday afternoon with three pairs of
shorts and returned two. When he left the store, police said, Nilan was
wearing blue Tommy Bahama swim shorts under the shorts he wore in.
Police
said Nilan struggled with store security officers who followed him out
of the store. Police said Nilan denied taking anything and threw punch
at one of the guards, but missed.
When Braintree Police officers
Michael Want and Matthew Crowley arrived, Nilan was still struggling
with the security guards even after they knocked him down. The police
officers managed to subdue Nilan and place him in handcuffs.
Police
said two guards, Nilan and McGettrick came out of the scrap with
scrapes and minor cuts. Nilan and McGettrick were arrested.
A
Boston native who graduated from Catholic Memorial High School, Nilan
played 15 seasons in the NHL with Montreal, the New York Rangers and
Boston. His nickname was “Knuckles” for his role as an enforcer. He
wracked up more than 3,000 career penalty minutes and set a Canadiens
record for time in the penalty box.

Speaking of enforcers, Stu Hackel remembers Reggie Fleming, who was from my Park Ex neighbourhood in Montreal – as is the great Dickie Moore.

Enough with this speedo wearing fag-*** ***!Swimsuits?!!Who the hell cares?!!Anybody knows that when you steal something, you do it for the RUSH!!!When i was a young lad i remember stealing *** from Zellers or wherever but i'd have money in my pocket.I just stole *** because it was a rush.Never got caught too.
Cammi for el Capitano!
Well, with a story like this, I couldn't resist:
a) O'Byrne could learn a few things from Nilan. These things have nothing to do with thievery or criminal defense.
b) " Police said Nilan denied taking anything and threw a punch at one of the guards, but missed." This was perhaps Nilan's defense. He was obviously suffering from dementia, because at his prime, Nilan didn't miss much.
Even at his tender age, I wouldn't expect him to miss a Mall Cop.
c) "The case was dismissed . . ." Here's the kicker.
Why?
"I just wanted to save a few bucks."
That's equally tragic and comic. Shakespeare himself wouldn't give Falstaff such absurdity.
But it is - if nothing else - an admission of guilt. It's equal to the Law and Order catharsis, where the estranged wife sobs, "I just wanted him back . . ."
Guess it's the OJ precedent. He must have had a good lawyer.
Message for Ian Cobb. I received you email. I sent an email back to you, but it bounced back so I don't believe you received it.
Thank you for your efforts Bill, I am getting them now, but in my spam for some reason
I love those Hitler..you tube takes......
Keep up the good/funny work !
You haven't seen "The Fuhrer" stealing a swimsuit one yet? Have you? It's one for the time capsule!
Why is it I have the feeling I soon will ...that would be a piece of work !!!
Your're on fire tonite man !!!
Walter Kronkite dies and I get nabbed for stealing a speedo. Conincidence? I think not!
I was just following The Code: If a speedo doesn't cover your entire ***, you don't have to pay for it!
The " code" ...sounds like BGL... some one bitch slap Lushit ... the hell with the code .. just drop the gloves and start wailing away !!!!
Trade BGL .. he seems much to comfortable .....
If he doesn't absolutely beat the crap out of somebody when deserved, for example running a goalie or abusing a talented player, just put him on waivers.
That's exactly what I thought we got him for ..... now he uses the " code " as a crutch !!!What's that all about !!!I agree with you HardHabits.. mangement should tell him what is expected ,,,imagine asking Lushit to go ..... shouldn't be no asking ..just drop the gloves and start wailing away .. be a crazy man .... that'll make them think twice . .. remember when Jovonoski first came into thh league ... he acted like a "crazy" man ... opposing palyers were scared shitless !!!!
someone drop Lucci for me ....
I bet you I cop a seal skin speedo and BGL would go for it. I would then go on to rag dol his veggie *** from one end of St. Cats to the end! Dude's a total waste!
BGL in a seal skin speedo ... cheekless or what !!! That I'dove to see ... would also like to se you rage dolling his *** ....Dude is a waste....
Some on drop Lushit ****
... from Tampa Bay's Raw Charge blog .....
Lightning owner Len Barrie says NHL is "satisfied" with his letter of credit"For the time being, though, things presumably are status quo in the Lightning front office. Koules is still CEO and governor and, with general manager Brian Lawton, controls most of the day-to-day activity surrounding the team. Barrie still has managerial rights in that he must sign off on all "major" player transactions."
Oh good. Things are staying the same. Like that's worked so well for them this past year.
It's really quite mind-boggling.....you have this 3-ring circus in Tampa Bay, owners missing cash deadlines, etc., and a guy like Balsillie, just dying to hand some cold, hard, cash over to the NHL can't get a sniff. Who says we are in a recession?
It's got nothing to do with a recession,
it's all about it being the owners/Bettman's ball so they pick which buddies get to play...
Playground rules 101... until Mom comes along
Bettman's a dork !! nuff said !
exactly, but you didn't need the /Bettman, because things like ownership's and selling teams and moving teams are voted on by the owners, Bettman has nothing to do with that stuff. unfortunately a lot of people can't grasp that simple concept.
Yeah but Bettman influences if not outright controls the agenda. The owners generally follow whatever he says. They're all buying into his, "we gotta keep the teams in the sunbelt, because if one falls, like dominoes, the rest will follow." So following this logic, if Phoenix fails, which it will eventually, then teams like Carolina, Columbus, Atlanta, Florida, Tampa, etc. will collapse too.
you really think that? sorry dude, these guy's have lawyers, anaylists, acountants and other professionals telling them what to do. Bettman is their REPRESENTATIVE to YOU, the fan. When they vote on something, Bettman is the one on the podium telling you what they will be doing, thats why he gets all the money he does, to take the heat off the guy's that really make the decisions. I really laugh when I see idiots write "Bettman hates Canada, thats why he won't move a team there" I mean are you kidding me? It's not Bettmans choice, he has no vote. Bettman is a weasel no doubt about it, but he is just a puppet for the real people who make the decisions, THE OWNERS OF THE 30 TEAMS....owners know that there is a huge untapped potential in the states if they can just get the game to take off, thats why they keep trying and failing to sell the game in non-tradtional markets.
It's like trying to sell soccer in Canada during winter. How do they expect people to get into hockey when outside they're surfing, biking, playing basketball and baseball? As well, in winter they have football. Outside in the winter I can walk a block to the local rink and play hockey outside, as can most of us Canadians. Only certain non-traditional markets will succeed, like those in California, but that's more because Cali has like the 9th largest economy in the world; it's no wonder they have 3 NHL teams. The owners vote but they do so in accordance with Bettmans agenda, (and I agree that you do have a point) which reflects the wishes of the owners. They're a bunch of dorks for trying to make hockey work in a friggin' desert. Even more stupid to insist on making it work when clearly there's no money to be made there.
Hockey's an indoor sport, so the weather outside is not a factor. Hockey's biggest hurdle in the states is playing second fiddle to other major league sports that enjoy huge popularity. It sucks, but it's all about money and the owners are a bunch of rich Americans trying to get richer. In the end we Canadians get the shaft. I just don't like people giving Butthead more credit than he deserves.
It's easier to scapegoat him since he's the figurehead than lay the blame on 30 non-descript owners. Plus he's such a weasel that he makes an easy target.
From the beginnings of the NHL, everyone knew that the future of the sport, for right or wrong, was in the US. Tex Ricard passes on coming to Montreal and establishing the NY Rangers and the future of professional hockey is dramatically different from what it is today. Could you imagine what could have happened if he took a fancy to chuck wagon races?
It's worse tha I thought .. he's not only a dork ... he's also a weasel ,puppett YES man ... Must make Clarence Campbell role over in his grave !!!!
Another ex NHL player going through some rough times is Rick Vaive who was on the wagon for years but fell off hard when he got picked up for impaired driving north of Toronto yesterday - It was Vaive & Bill Derlago's love of the nightlife etc that got them traded out of Vancouver several years ago to Toronto......
That's to bad..I always liked Vaive.. us Maritimers stick together !!! He deserved more from the leafs after hid career was over .Boy the Laffs sure now how to look after the past stars !!!
Good luck Rick !
Does anyone know anything about Spacek, what kind of player he is? I know he was Buffalo's #1 D last year, and I assume he's a Markov-lite. Is that a fair assumption?
I expect he'll be the QB of the 2nd PP unit. I would also figure that Martin will put one puck mover with one bruiser type stay at home D man when 5 on 5.
Getting up there age-wise, good on the PP, ..... don't expect any physicality.
Pretty good D-man but kinda injury prone.
~ Listen to the smart dog - he knows his poop!
Yes, Dog, he is a pretty good D-man. PP specialist, more or less. But as I said, getting a bit long in the tooth (you dogs will understand that), so yeah, hence injury prone. Not the most physical of defencemen, but then they don't all have to be. No team has 7 punishingly physical defencemen on it's roster. He'll serve a purpose with the Habs and fill a hole for the short term.
im going to go to the Summit this year ....... i HOPE no one gives me sh*t for wearing my Kovy jersey !!
Im going to have to re-invest in another jersey ......... who is safe for a few years ??? anyone??
No sh*t from me ... If you do wear it .. promise me you'll show up !!! haha
I plan on going also ..with my Price jersey ..... hopefullyI'll show up haha !!!
NOT ME!! I will be waring my # 27 4 ever.
Habs Fan 4 Ever & Ever Amen.
I will be wearing my # 11 4 ever and ever. Long live SAKU!! A great warrior with a heart of a lion.
Die Hard Habs Fan 4 a Lifetime.
My idea of buying a jersey for any of my two favourite sports (hockey, soccer... or football as I like to call it), is that you buy the team jersey only. To put it raw out there, players are whores. They go where the money is. I celebrate the teams, not players. If I have to put a name, I'll put my own and my favourite number ;)
Gomez ain't goin' nowhere.
If he's good, Bob has him locked in, if he's a dud, no-one's gonna take him from us.
~ Listen to the smart dog - he knows his poop!
I have one that has the 99 on back, with no name. My vintage sweater has nothing on back. They never go out of style. Really,!! no C, H, sweater ever goes out of style Faron.
good point -- and since i will always be a Kovy fan i will deal with him being with another team i have before !!
id still like to get one from the glory years .... just have to decide who ---
I think that you can't go wrong with just a plain old 4 on the back and a C on the chest.
That'll never go out of style...ever :)
Man how hard up can you be to steal a swimsuit? Wear shorts or something.
Another cool video:TRAILER OF THE NEW CANADIENS MOVIE
http://www.hockey30.com/magazine/bande-annonce-pour-toujours-les-canadiens/
Goosebumps.
Just watched Chicago introduce Hossa to the fans at United Centr. apparently a coupe of hundred people came to see him. Not like soccer where 100 000 come down to see Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo wave at them but anyone know when the Habs will be officially introducing the newest additions? And will it be just a presser or could there be something else?
Is the a jamborree this year?
------------------------ Vive La Sainte-Flanelle!
the last time i actually remember a player being introduced via a press conference was Yannic Perreault. I dont think the Habs do it anymore, they certainly didn't for Hamrlik when we signed him to that big deal.
The true story: I was invited to hang out with a bunch of buds from Quebec at their summer place in Wildwood, New Jersey this weekend. (Yes, Danny Briere was going to be there too.) Normally, I just wear a pair of cut-offs when I go to the beach. But, all those guys sport speedos. I didn't want to seem out of place and found the coolest thing to wear:
http://www.speedousa.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3444112&cp=3124322....
Those are awesome lol.
I have a pair of those for my table dance at the SUMMIT!
You should put up a thread about it in the 'Summit' category. The top thread there is from February about the Bulldogs game.
At least that way, it'll be easier for those interested to keep track of which thread had the details in them.
Can't wait Ian......

I don't think you want Andree to find out that you got it going for Mr. Cobb!
I'm afraid you are going to need it SHERRIE.!
By the way, Ian, thanks for taking the initiative in starting to organize the 3rd annual H I/O summit; I really hope we can make it. Hope you and Andree have a great vacation.
Its getting that I cant eat and come to this site at the same time anymore...
Always buy them a size smaller Ian so they can hold on to all the dollar bills you'll collect!
I get filled up with toonies,
That has GOT to hurt
Crap, I forgot. You guys have coins at the one- and two-dollar denominations. In that case, get it two sizes too large so that you have some space for them inside!
damn thats nasty.
No way man! Why the hell did they fight you to get those back?
I didn't try to clip the damn speedo. I thought it was "buy one get one free!"
Thought you were into kilts??
Well, I hope that eyesore was the free one!
I once heard "Cement Hands" Nilan, but I think it was just some sportscaster on TV.
Anyone going to the Stanley Keg tonight in Pierrefonds to see Leblanc?
Still debating on it for today! Driving out all the way from Brossard during rush hour to the West Island is not necessarily an easy task. But I'll seee...maybe in the weekend.
Did the shorts match O'Byrne's purse? Yes I realize that O'Byrne was a hazing stunt gone wrong (way to go TK), but still.... I loved Nilan's defence, 'I was trying to save a few bucks', well at least he's honest about his dishonesty.
P.S. Since when is there a debate on his nickname? It was always 'Knuckles' Nilan. 'Nails' was baseball player, Lenny Dykstra.
It's "Knucklehead" now!
http://www.habseyesontheprize.com/
Robert, just came from your site. As per usual, am impressed with your work and dedication. Keep it up!!
Merci!
You don't mind sharing the nickname?
http://www.habsdentist.com
LMAO! Geez, did I hurt your feelings! What did i ever do to you?
Wasn't "Nails" Tim Raines?
Nails was Lenny Dykstra of the Phillies
Nope.....Raines was "Rock".
Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy (Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy
He was the Rock.
"rock" raines ...."nails" nilan
Raines was 'Rock', Andre Dawson was the 'Hawk', Nilan was 'Knuckles', Dykstra was 'Nails'. Considering my name is 'Nails', I'd have known if any major sports athletes had the nickname, especially one playing for the team I cheer for, in my favourite sport of all things.
Here's his poster even.
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_NmrsbtwydFo/SVKtGbSd2FI/AAAAAAAAAg8/ItAa-uupeN...
.....dig....
Again...show me just one link which mentions "nails" as Nilan's nickname. I've only ever heard "Knuckles" Nilan.
Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy (Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy
don't know what the "again" is about....you guys are right knuckles nilan...my bad....i was answerring the rock raines thing and just went along with the "nails" thing without too much thought......sounds actually better...too bad the poster who wrote that wasn't around back in the day cause I think I like "Nails" better anyway.
Sorry....earlier in the thread someone else mentioned "nails" nilan, and he seemed pretty sure, but I've never heard it before. I prefer "Knuckles" Nilan, myself, but probably has something to do with being used to it.
Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy (Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy
Fans and press called him Knuckles, but as I recall, to team-mates he was "Nutsy". So I guess we shouldn't be surprised.
Don't adjust your sets, but Tom Watson now holds the lead at The Open after TWO ROUNDS! Unfortunately, Mike Weir shot 78 today. As well, Tiger Woods is down to his last 5 holes of his 2nd round and is in danger of missing the cut.
Great! Does that mean you'll be writing a novel about the history of the tournament and what we peons should expect from each player, so Boone can post it and save himself the research?
