About
Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.

Bryan...I see Stefan Legein is back in the Blue Jackets camp this year. He pretty much dropped out of the public eye last year after announcing his "retirement" from hockey. I know he took a brief stint with the St.Catharines Jr.B. Falcons last year before moving on to the OHL's Brampton Battalion, but we never heard much at all about him in these parts when he did come back to hockey last year. That's the trouble here. If you're not playing for one of the local teams (meaning the Niagara Ice Dogs, Buffalo Sabres, or the Leafs), then you are not worthy of newsprint.
Looks like the kid might have his head back on straight and hopefully his "issues" are behind him. The kid does have talent. A little maturity between the ears is all that he needs to make it in hockey. It would be nice to see him bounce back.
Tommy - Yes, he scored the first goal in the rookies tournament for the BJs'. I tried to e mail you but it wouldn't go thru, must be csis, lol.
Oh no, maybe the "moderators" have gotten into my email as well.

Balsillie ups his bid for Coyotes to US$242.5
I like Weber's attitude, he seems like a down to earth guy, and his english is fantastic! And PK speaks like a true winner and leader, not satisfied with his spectacular season last year, constantly yearning to be better. I'm loving these two guys.

andrewberkshire i loved your blog keep up the good work! also what part of saskatchewan are you from? i'm from saskatchewan and continue to live hear and much like you are, i'm a lifelong habs fan(since birth)

Pssssst.....
.....it's hockey season...the double letters are on the ice, the rinks are trying to collect their $ for rec hockey...
You gotta love that fact that at the first day of rookie camp, Scott Gomez, Mike Cammalleri, Hal Gill, Travis Moen and Jaroslav Spacek all show up to skate with the kids, apparently saying that they're rookies, too -- with the Habs. Even if some of them sport Stanley Cup rings. I don't know what the season holds, but so far the new acquisitions are showing great attitude.
I like this, good attitude from the new players.
Looking forward to a more stable, happier locker room with these guys.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
Did this really happen?
Yep, as reported by RDS.
Very Impressive indeed. It all starts with attitude. I love it!
Wow, that is very impressive. The squad last year always had optional practices and none of the main players ever showed up. But I do remember when the Habs were down 3-0 to the Bruins, Price and Komisarek decided to show up to the optional practice. Too little to late.
Sprague! Where's Odie?
Where's Odie? Hockey heaven, where the Habs play the Leafs and the Bruins every night in a double header, and never lose.
Just a few hours before Sprague's 14 July 1956 funeral, Odie Cleghorn, was found in his bed, dead of heart failure, perhaps induced by the stress of the loss of his brother.
Can someone please help me out? I don't have an HDTV, but I can't miss a game this year. Will all 82 games be on RDS this year? Or only on the HD channel? I need to know because I will have to by a new TV otherwise.
They'll all be on RDS as the programming is the same on both standard and high definition stations. However I must say, if you have the money to do it you should definitely try to see the Habs in HD. I had it for the first time last year and it was fantastic.
http://berkshireonthehabs.blogspot.com/
I have RDS already, just Rogers says that all 82 games are on the HD channel, but a "fine selection" of Habs games will be on RDS. Then I checked RDS website, and they say the programming will be identical. I'm just trying to clarify before I sit down in front of the TV on Oct. 3rd and the game is only on TML...I mean CBC
PS so your not dissapointed because you will have missed Opening day
the first game is on October 1st Vs TML (on RDS)
It just means that all the Canadiens games will be in HD if you have HD channel. If you do not have the HD channel, it will be like any other times on RDS regular channel.

30 plus goals for AK46 this season...hope he will be surrounded by talent
I sure hope PK plays a full season in the AHL. Maybe a couple games with the Habs this year, but don't rush him.
Great maturity,both
Alex Trebec is a Habs fan, although not one who has been overly impressed recently.

For 500 points....I'll take "What Alex Trebek thinks?"
"Who gives a damn!"

"fallen on hard times..." just the way your mother likes it, eh trebek?? -sean connery
Now I'm going to be up all night hunting down those clips and rewatching. Absolute gold, some of the best things SNL ever did. I especially loved the one that featured both Connery and Burt Reynolds (aka Turd Ferguson).

My absolute favourite SNL skits! Time to do some utaube surfing, haha.

PK has grown and filled out since his draft year and is no longer a smallish D-man. His skating, puckhandling, leadership and physical play will make him an all-star calibre defenceman in no time.
Its going to be hard for Martin to send him down, but unless Bob can engineer a trade there is no room for him in MTL this year.
Weber's big disadvantage is that he's way undersized for the big league. He will need years of seasoning and experience in the minors to learn how to be more than just a power play specialist.
Well I watch some skating drills on RDS and I came away with this thought. I was under the idea that Webber is a great skater but I watch him and then PK Subban do the backwards drill. Wow this kid Subban can really skate and I mean Bobby Orr abillity when its comes to skating. I think its going to be really hard, unless he falls on his *** he not going to be back in Montreal before Xmas. That if he leaves Montreal at all. This kid will be the most exciting Habs d-man since Doug Harvey.
i can't wait for the pre-season to start. my guess is, first home game, the subbanator will rush up from behind his net, deke a few players, pull a spinorama, and kovalev will be all but forgotten by habs fans! i can hear the oooohs in the audience!
If you haven't checked it out before, check out P.K.'s backwards scissors...
Insane!

GO HABS GO!
Several observations after watching that ckip and the "What Is Love" compilation...
1, All d-men should learn to do the backwards scissors as a drill, but I can see a lot of strained groin muscles if the Habs d-men start now.
2,If he pulls one of his spin-o-rama moves in the forum, the fans will go nuts!
3. He loves to rush with the puck! He's gonna get burned on D! Any thoughts on converting him to a forward.
4. He can teach Gui and MaxPac how to drive to the net!
Not bad, but can he shoot both ways? :)
