About
Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.
Share the agony and ecstasy of Habs fandom and read live blogs from every game with Gazette columnist Mike Boone.

Ahhh, there's the Saku I know and love! They finally got the message
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/koivu-guys-ducks-2571462-feel-comfort...
__________________________________________________________________________ "This kid is going to win a Stanley Cup one day and hopefully I'll be with him when that happens" - Saku Koivu
as a Habs fan living in LA, yes, there is no hockey player on either team that would get noticed while walking down the street. None. There was a pre-season game last night - and not a mention in the LA Times sports section today. Saku will love it here and i'm psyched to watch him play all season with some great players. He'll be glad to know that this is Kobe-town and Manny-wood. In terms of sports, it's Lakers, Dodgers and USC football. Then Angels, UCLA football, Clippers. That's 6 teams. Then Kings, Ducks and Galaxy are relegated to page 8.....with very few photos. In OC... they are too busy watching The Real Housewives of Orange County to care what Saku Koivu looks like. But he will be healthy and tanned all year. Not Chelios tanned, but he'll be looking sharp.
Here we go Habs!
And if I'm totally off-base here? That picture ain't him, beach-head. Oh, get ready, here comes another wave, don't get sand in your shorts. And put a shirt on, it might drop to 19... Celsius.
Whaddaya say to THAT?
Peace Out

I guess it's true what they say about the California air. Hot dang.
How come when I went over, I still looked like hurled chunks?
Peace Out

New doo on Saku.
I'll tell you what's a mistake: Billy Corgan hiring a 19-year-old drummer!
(woops... wrong blog. Time to save face and segue back to the conversation)
And just see how we crush those Blackhawks this season!
does anyone know of a streaming link for tonights game please?
rds.ca has a stream
No wonder players who play in southern US cities say they can walk down the street without people stopping them. Now we know how they do it.
LOL gosh that's amazing.
Ex nihilo nihil fit
ill post this again in this thread, for comedic purposes as we all KNOW habsinsideout never makes such mistakes

*chortle chortle*
Enjoy the anonymity in Anaheim Saku! You deserve a breather. We all still miss you though!

Saku got his own body double... nice!
-----I'm back on the addiction. That's right, I'm on the Habs!-----
NIce to see the sports journalists in the OC know their hockey team...lol

Ya! The Habs Rule! now on Twitter!
If they're gonna mistake him for someone, at least put up a picture of Selanne or something.
Peace Out

Thats the Koivu the French Media wanted!
That's really funny - a mistake you would not see here in Hockey's capital. And they haven't even corrected it yet. Anyone who wants to read the full article, here's a direct link:
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/koivu-guys-ducks-2571462-feel-comfort...
I miss Saku already - always underrated due to French media who didn't like him and kept putting him down in the paper (note, I'm French-Canadian).
Not like the English media. Who were perfect with him. Who rated him just perfect. Right?
Peace Out

"a mistake you would not see here in Hockey's capital."
i wouldnt go THAT far
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c320/froggybootknocker/notbrashear.jpg
Thats getting a little annoying.
posted it twice, once as a reply to someone, then i figured as a reply to the mistake itself
i am so sorry my incessant repettitiveness (twice) annoyed you
Saku morphed into the dude from Nickleback!
LOL
Ex nihilo nihil fit
I thought FOR SURE that Habs Inside/Out modified the article for joking purposes....but NOPE
Haha, too funny!!!
Enjoy the sunshine Saku!
saku you look good. ur so much younger the change has helped you so much.
If anyone has tickets for tonight's game I am interested in buying up to 4-5 tickets. I believe Neil has them for sale but I can't get ahold of him. If you know his phone # or e-mail address please let me know at 514-884-0869. Thanks.
-Sam
You know what? Good for Saku. Going from a fishbowl under a microscope, to Anaheim where they are pretty sure they have a hockey team ...
I hope he enjoys the freedom to just play.
"... et le buuuuut!"
Well atleast got the nationality right.
On a sidebar, going off on a tangerine here - am I the only one who hates the Ducks (mostly cuz Bettman let them into the league with the whole cartoony Mighty Ducks name/logo based on a freakin' Disney kids flick... *deep breath* but I digress) but also because Los Angeles doesn't NEED/DESERVE two NHL teams and the Kings have been there thru thick & thin, purple & gold, Jack Kent Cooke & Jerry Buss, McNall & Gretzky!! Hell, the L.A. Kings are part of the Original 12!!!
Thanks for letting me vent.
PS. My son is 5 and loves hockey, when he is older like me and has his own kids he can tell them all about the NHL "when he was a kid, in the days of the Original 30"... Alas, woe is me.
hey guy, the ducks are rooted in ORANGE county, not los angeles county. and who cares if they're not one of the original 12 teams like the kings? that doesn't give the kings any more right to be in the league.
... please, keep on digressing. I agree whole-heartedly. When they came into the league, it was surely the first step in becoming the Mickey Mouse outfit it is today.
"News is what somebody somewhere wants to suppress; all the rest is advertising." - Lord Northcliffe, British Newspaper Baron
The Mighty Ducks in an awesome movie for all ages.
...I have a feeling Saku is enjoying being anonymous in Anaheim ...but I have a feeling He will have a great season ...and that anonymity will NOT last long
Habitant means PASSIONATE HOCKEY

FAIL
LOL...Where do you guys find such creativity and imagination to post stuff like that ..plastic surgery or maybe Saku standing behind the guy in the pic...loool
----- go habs f*ckin go, AMEN!!! -----
LA is such a hockey hotbed!...Then again maybe Saku did see one of those Beverly Hills plastic surgeons...
They'll correct it and say it was actually a photo of Ryan Getzlaf...
I am sure he enjoys a break from the spotlight...Gomez and crew are getting a tan this year...
"At least we are not the Leafs!"
Getzlaf doesn't have that much hair...
Naah,
He DUCKED when the shot was taken.
hehehe
Geez, I didn't know he's already visited a cosmetic surgeon. Ah, life in la-la land.

Beliveau is the best that ever was.
Saku looks good! A change in scenery really did do him some good - that SoCal sunshine must be helping.
Hey, maybe that's just what happens to former captains who relax on the beach, they get bigger and grow amazing surfing hair.
Let's send Gomez there and see if he comes back taller (and with cool hair)
In Gainey We Trust...
HAHAHA, just realized the first line of the article! PHENOMENAL!
Off-topic, but did anybody see that Phaneuf hit on Okposo? I really hate that guy, why would you headhunt on a player who's offbalance in a preseason game?
It was a hockey hit, and one that Dion Phaneuf is known for. None of us seemed to have a problem when Scott Stevens laid out Lindros in the same manner. Fact of the matter is, when the games count you have to keep your head up.
That being said, Phaneuf is a jerk because a) its pre-season b) its a young player on the receiving end c) he pretty much lined him up from far away, knew okposo was in a vulnerable position, and clearly had the intention of injuring him, which is stupid because the islanders will play the flames only once this year so its not even like there was a rivarly or long-term benefit for his team throughout the season to have okposo injured and d)his roster spot is secure, and he has nothing to prove.
It was like last year when weight laid out brandon sutter... sutter had just dished off the puck, there was absolutely no reason for weight to crush him while he was in a vulnerable position.
Bottom line: Players dont respect their fellow players, and thats a big problem. Why couldnt phaneuf just poke the puck away and than say "you're lucky kid, I had you in my sights and could have smoked you. If two points were on the line, you're on a stretcher right now, remember that".
I've actually always had a problem with Stevens, not that he wasn't a great defencemen, but his headhunting is rarely discussed. Never liked that guy.
The Weight hit is still not as bad to me. Bad, but not as bad. He didn't leave his feet and he doesn't have a history of those kind of hits. Phaneuf on the other hand, seems to get away with murder.
The worst part is when a player (Morency?) came off the bench to give Phaneuf what he deserved another Flamer tried to stop him. Cripes, if you do something like that at least stand up and fight his teammate.
Freaking hate him. Dirty, uncalled for.
can't wait 'til he crumbes mid-season.
again.
Not to mention he's really ugly.
TML = Too Many Losses
Phaneuf will get his soon enough. That'll make him more ugly.

That's a big hit:

Hell not even the Hanson Brothers would do that, eh?
hell no, they'd get em in the warmup skate!
Hilarious! Maybe Sak's standing behind that big guy.
haha

lol, that's hilarious.
Well Koivu, welcome to hockey in Cali...
Any bets that Montreal newspapers are going to cover Koivu more than SoCal newspapers?
I had to go to the site, just to see if the updated their mistake yet. Nope.
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/koivu-guys-ducks-2571462-feel-comfort...
Guessing it's a mistake in ID by the photographer, and no one on their sports desk knew any better. Unfortunate error and I'm not going to rip them, given some of the things that happen in The Gazette. (Ask me sometime about the puck I glued into a 1979 Habs photo -- I was a rookie on the sports desk and thought the pic needed a puck, but didn't see one in the print. Then about being called into sports editor Red Fisher's office, where Red pointed out the original puck to me.)

Since you brought it up...it was only two days ago, in The Gazette editorial about the potential cost of the return of F1, that the race track at ÃŽle Notre Dame was referred to as the "Jacques Villeneuve course". I was expecting to read countless letters to the editor denouncing this apparent re-naming of Le Circuit Gilles Villeneuve but nary a peep from the masses.
That's fantastic!!
Not when you see your life flashing between your eyes. At least the Habs scored with my puck; the one I didn't see was outside the far post.
