About
Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.

Not a bad pickup. Sounds like a Rick Green type of defencemen?
Don't know if this was covered earlier...Is the total hit for Leach 250,000...1/2 of his 500,000 salary because we got him on reentry waiver?
"If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." (anon)
Affirmative.
lapierres a griity layer ala brian scrudland type, if he could score more. claiming a huge d man off waivers whose only played a hand full of nhl games is good for depth but not a solution in the long run. i guess habs want to leave webber and subban in the minors a proper amount of time and not rush them like lats . price better keep the passion alive and play with emotion like last game not like hes on valium. its all about fire in the belly carey, be hungry and aggressive. habs will win tonight 4-2 !! koz sr will get two points.
--------- G O H A B S G O !! -----------
Did u heaar freakin Mcguire about Lappiere, what a jerk.
Lapierres role is to agitate the other team and draw penalties not fight, he did the right thing yesterday.
People mustrealise hes not a freaking fighter
Mcguire's right. If hes gonna always talk trash like he does, at some point he'll need to drop the gloves.

most welecome to www.irmantrade.com
hehe!!..yea we've been talking about it here since last night...some of us realized McGuire just talks crap sometimes and doesn't think before opening his mouth.....there are plenty of other players he coulda started saying BS but..he chose LAPS last night...
----- go habs f*ckin go, AMEN!!! -----
Well he prolly has it out against us, he has never said anything good about the canadiens honestly i dont see why people like mcguires opinion hes an american who dosent look at hockey properly i dotn care what anyone says hes not good at all ir eally dont like him and wish he had become Gm with minnesota so he can freaking shut up and never be on tsn again
on a lighter note i think tsn making fun of John Torterella is hilarious and they should keep it up :P
Wow, such eloquence.
Well he prolly has it out against us, he has never said anything good about the canadiens honestly
are you a 5th grader? whenever i hear him on TSN, he's always praising Price (whom he called his monster as recently as thursday night), he praises Martin, our top line, Metro, Moen, Hamrlik, OB, etc.
don't just throw a bunch of words around that you can't back up, is what i guess i'm saying ;)
ps. his comments are taken out of context. and he started by saying he liked Laps and Lats' (because Lats was mentioned along with Lapierre, btw) energy but that word was getting around the league about them not being willing to fight. it was nothing against them. just mentioning it because one of these days, they would run into someone who would drop the gloves against them. we hate Ruuto because he's unwilling to fight, we hate Avery (even though he does, on occasion, drop the gloves). Lapierre is the same--a yapper with nothing to back up his bs. we saw it with Ference's brilliant request to fight last night. Lapierre denied him. it had nothing to do with the 1-0 score at the time. Lapierre never drops the gloves. like Latendresse, he holds onto guys in scrums so he looks like he's trying. like BGL told him a year ago, don't start fires you can't put out.
i agree with Maguire's assessment. Lapierre just runs his mouth a bit too much. and what if he gets clocked at some point? Maguire wasn't asking goons to fight him, just stating a fact. after all his running around, would you find it unfair for someone to clock him once?
I wouldn't assume that Laps is afraid to fight. It looked like he was trying to goad Ferrence into taking an instigator. If people ae running around concentrating on him then they are less focused on the game. Also as someone else pointed out Laps was the first person who came in to fight when Bergeron got boarded. A smart player fights when it's to his advantage. Laps is smart and trying to win games not prove himself to Maguire or others!
so it's never to Laps' advantage to fight, then, i take it, eh? :)
he was first on the Bergeron hit, but even then, as he got hit once in the face, he only collapsed on the player and held on to him. never fought back. not one punch.
Mcguire is absolutely right though, Lapierre has to drop the gloves. Its fine to agitate and be a pest but eventually people start to lose respect for you and one day someone is gonna cheap shot Lapierre and it might get ugly.Once in a while Lapierre should fight. I think Mcguire is acually giving him some advice.
go habs go!
Right on

I am going to see Subban and Co. on Sunday here in Ottawa.
Subban scores
is there a link?
I was at the game, a perfect slap shot from the point and it was the only Hamilton goal of the game and they blew about 10 really good chances along the way, granted, having 3 guys on injury and hijacking Carle, White and Pyatt to the Habs didn't really help 'em, but not good passing play and a lot of shots were flubbed.
Subban is looking very good, but his end-to-end rushes don't work and they'll only be even more vulnerable to be turned against the team in NHL games, some very nice moves from him tonight though, 1-2 years, he and Markov will form one of the best PP units in the whole NHL.
SK74 had an okay night, a coupla shots that didn't really amount to much including one going wide, but he was the best guy for passing play on the ice, a couple of scoring chances failed because the guy he fed couldn't handle the puck, his stick work is NHL calibre for sure.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu.
Note to Sergei Bob Gainey doesn't play game ask Kovy. Your down on the farm till after Xmas and I am willing to bet the whole year. Only way he gets back to the Habs this year if he tears it up down there. Your in a deep hole kid and it going to take a lot of time to climb out.
Give it a friggin rest

"one win, plan the parade; one loss, tie the noose. It’s super-emotional, it’s completely irrational, but that’s what makes it so glorious." - George Stroumboulopoulos
my exact thoughts
you do know that George is a Habs fan, right?
Laps one-ice attitude is nothing new. Get over it! Do some research and get to its origin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V7zbWNznbs
I thought Lapierre did the right thing. If he fought, he would have got the Bruins fans into it and made them a factor. And you wouldn't want to see him get his *** kicked like that big Leaf defenceman did last year.
Laps has to get one of those iron French helmets to wear on the ice! Man, could you see him bangin' his hands against it taunting the opposition? It would be one for the time capsule.
Claude Lemieux was the best super pest of all time, and guess what he very seldom fought.
Lapierre is no Claude Lemieux, but saying he needs to fight is ridiculous!@!
Pierre Maguire "mister tough guy" couldn't fight his way out of wet paper bag. Sometimes I have liked him (when he was doing our radio and such), but lately he is being a jerk about our team and his absolute comments are foolish.
Proof is in the pudding. Lemieux is french for "the best" for a reason. I can put up links listing him as the best pest of all time all day and all night.

GO HABS GO!
It will be a cold day in hell before anyone will be fired or even called out for giving the Leafs players or the Leafs brass the H1N1 shots. Look at the press already protecting them and the CBC, the people network lol operated by our tax dollars and owned by MLSE. Great chnace for the Gazette to write why the Leafs are off the hook but don't hold your breath for that.
Thanks Dave Stubbs for the link below to the interview with Sergei. Sounds like he is having a change of heart. That is fantastic to hear.
Q. Are you thinking much about playing again for Montreal?
A. No, I'm just thinking about playing well tonight.
LOL the kid has hired a PR agent. That's wonderful news. He'll be back with the Canadiens in no time. Good for him. I wish him well. We need his talent. And we would have gotten nothing for him in a trade.
Check out this Darren Dreger puff-piece in which he works frantically to insist that the Maple Leafs did not "jump the line" to get H1N1 shots. Well, they were definitely vaccinated outside of public clinics, and clearly were not forced to line-up or even wait their turn in the priority sequence ... but what seems to be a patent case of line-jumping is defended by Dreger as at worst "a breakdown in communication". On what basis is this defense made? Um, "multiple sources." Just what these sources might have said that would excuse the Leaf organization is not mentioned.
Basically, Dreger's defense (and wow, is this guy on the Leafs PR payroll, or what?) of the Leafs taking the vaccine WELL AHEAD OF MANY VULNERABLE YOUNG CHILDREN is that their team doctors felt it was a good idea, fearing that they'd been exposed to the virus. Of course, everyone in Canada practically has been exposed to the virus, so by that logic, there's no reason to hurriedly vaccinate a hockey team. Hopefully some heads will roll for this, as they have in Alberta, where people have quite justifiably been fired for arranging a private and early vaccination for the Flames.
Full Breezer 4 Life
It was a mistake, they admit it....take it easy.
go habs go!
Tell that to kid's parents who could not get the vaccine and has the virus.
mjames
You guys are right im not debating it, they should not get priority but you guys are just making more of a big deal about it cause it is the leafs. There are tons of errors being made with this vaccine but we all just chose to focus on this error cause it deals with Toronto. And I am not a Leafs fan by any means, I just think the constant bashing of anything that happens is getting tiring, and that goes for both sides.
go habs go!

"one win, plan the parade; one loss, tie the noose. It’s super-emotional, it’s completely irrational, but that’s what makes it so glorious." - George Stroumboulopoulos
Not so much a Sens fan as a Spezza fan. Love that guy. I always liked the Habs though.
Herb didn't talk about the head shot on Dags because he was to afraid too. If there was a head shot like that on a Leaf player he would have joined right in .
Sergei talks...I think the media is just exagerrated things for no reason. He's a young cocky kid. Deal with it! He'll be back with the Habs...mark my word!
"All you need in hockey is good character, luck and skills" - Ovie
Let's play "photo assumption". I see Sergei's sly looks while he answers questions and I think what he's REALLY saying is, YOU know how I feel about my situation, I know how I feel, but lets play this little game where I say the right things and you talk about how professional I'm being so I can get recalled ASAP.
You totally nailed it, at least he's 'playing the game'...
I can't watch right now, but, even if it's half sincere or mostly insincere, it's part of the process isn't it? Acknowledging that there are responsibilities and expectations?
Understanding that this type of bs is sometimes necessary, is a part of the maturation process for someone who previously flew off the handle pretty quickly. While he's getting his head around this crap, he may gain a few more insights along the way. Baby steps, Chris, baby steps.
Yup. Its called being "pro".. and sometimes it aint just being a good player. You gotta bite your tongue and ZIP IT. He's learning.. we all make mistakes, but we gotta learn right?
Anyone see Bob McCown tonight Herb from the Gazette was on taking shots at the Habs. While Kelly and Smith and Bob were pussy footing around on how bad the Leafs were. They were trying to justify the Kessel deal and protect poor little Burke. Anyone that thinks there is freedom of the press in this country is out of their mind. The Gazette is told not to crap on the Leafs as are any English Newspapers or TV networks. The CBC which is owned by us Canadians are the worst and they make no bones about being bias. I do love this site because we can speak the truth . The Canadiens are 8 -8 and yes there are problems spots on this team but they are still 8-8 and all the crap about how small they are and how bad are d-men are just wishfull thinking from the Toronto pleasing english reporters. Who are to scared to speak the truth or tell it like its is unless its the Canadiens. Well the team is still 8-8 with their best player gone and their best goaltender struggling at times. If this team was 1-12 they would have a field day with Bob Gainey and the players in all the papers and all TV networks. Well Herb you think Gainey is going to be fired that your view but why didn't you have the guts to ask why Burke's job is not on the line. Why because you were told not too thats why.
One of the things I picked up on the show was that as they were talking about the head shots etc, the hit on D'ags was mentioned by Herb and they moved right on/back to the hit by Richards. Nothing more was said about it... Herb looked a bit stunned that they didn't even talk about it, like it didn't matter.

SK told reporters this morning that he prefers to return to Montreal than getting traded.
What's your source?
Here's an article
holy crap, he looks demonic in that shot!

demonic? You have kids? That's the typical snotty, petulant little brat look.
Hey, demonic can be good in a game.

Boy, the organization will get anyone with the letter D up front...
Glen Metropolit... what a guy!
SK is receiving half boos and half cheers. Just shows how devided the fan's opinions are.
Oh really well thats good then he could play Tomorrow night. I thought he was claimed and was going to th dogs. 6'5 and 225 will look good on the back in tomorrow night. I hope Spacek can go if not then we know why he was signed. If Spacek can go then I wonder if MAB will sit.
Does any one know if Leach is playing tonight.
With the 'Dogs ? He can't be sent down...he was claimed off of re-entry waivers and if they send him down, he goes back to NJ.
He's not. He's on the Habs roster, not Hamilton.
In JM we trust.
What a start to the game... two monster fights.

Click on the link to read the rest. I'm glad to see Sergei's getting it together.

It's also interesting to note that Guy Boucher has a master's in sports psychology. From the articles I've read, he seems to have a different, yet effective, way of coaching. Here's another article, this one's on Boucher.
Hamilton Bulldogs coach Guy Boucher has life, education experience.

FIRST OFF.. the article says "he'll join the Canadiens" which means he's up with the big club.
SECOND OFF... anyone know what contract he was under? Becuase he was coming BACK on waivers, the Devils are on the hook for half! Nice little bonus!
THIRD... I posted earlier today that they needed to do THREE things to get this team on the rails. One was shore up their D with a depth defenceman (and limit MAB and Gill). The other week when I said put Laps on the 2nd line it happened too. I guess Martin or Gainey reads the dog! :)

"I've always enjoyed shootouts," added Price. "It's a lot of fun". "Everything's focused on the goalie and the shooter. It's tough when you get scored on two or three times in a row, but when you win it's pretty satisfying."
8-8 not a bad record considering where some people say we could be
