Canadiens goalie Carey Price has had a special Remembrance Day mask made to commemorate the efforts of Canada's soldiers, past and present. He wore it in warmup last night and will take it to Phoenix for tomorrow's game.
The mask features a likeness of a wreath-laying soldier on one side, a bagpiper on the other and the words to John McCrae's World War I poem In Flanders Fields, part of which is the Canadiens' unofficial "From failing hands..." motto, in both of Canada's official languages. Also featured are poppies and a yellow ribbon of support for our country's troops. The words Lest We Forget/N'Oublions Pas frame the ribbon.
Price's special mask eventually will be auctioned to benefit the Canadian Forces' charitable work with its members and their families.
Illustrations of the mask, before the cage was attached, appear below. They are courtesy of its Toronto-based sports designer and painter, David Arrigo.
Absolutely beautiful. His best mask yet for sure. I would love to know how much it goes for.
A fine piece of work, and a wonderful gesture. Well done Carey.
Nice mask, even nicer gesture.
XXIV...and counting
This is unbelievable. Beautiful mask only overshadowed by the beautiful gesture. He may not be a great goalie yet, but this puts him in the great human category for me.
Way to go, Carey!
Go Habs Go!! "I can't hear what Jeremy (Roenick) is saying because my Stanley Cup rings are in my ears" - Patrick Roy
If that mask was made for the purpose, it is not only to commemorate the soliders in war but for certainly that Price will be in nets tomorrow.
Beautiful work on the mask, I thought it might be the mask for the Olympics.
Price, wear it proud and for all the soliders will be on your back for a great win tomorrow!
Metropolit's Fu Manchu moustache are in, like Roy's mullet for the 90s
So classy. I wish I had the money to bid on it.

It truly is beautiful - in many ways. I love that he included In Flanders Fields.

I STILL BELIEVE. I WILL ALWAYS BELIEVE.
So do I, that poem always brings a tear to my eye.

Beutiful mask, When and where do you think they will be auctioning it off?
Rememberance Day, brought to you by Bauer.
4 masks in one season? That's got to be a record of some sort. But that mask is gorgeous. I'd rather he wore this one than the 'Choppers and Aces".
Nice mask and nice gesture from Carey.
Anyone going to the Phoenix game?

I loved that lol, it made me laugh
i saw that to...what a bitter ahole..lol
The mask is a great tribute to the vets whom fought for this country and those who still do. No disrepect but Price should worry about his playing and not so much about his masks, he is up to what 5 masks in 2 1/2 years...??? I'd love to see the price who played for the world juniours or even the bulldogs during the playoffs, but he is just dismal the start of this year and the latter part of last year. He just looks to laid back, and looks like he doesn't try hard enough. I'd love to see more cockyness and determination out of him. Other wise his future won't be with the habs in 2 years if he doesn't regain his form again.
"To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be it yours to hold high."
lol, only certain people would reply like you have here. Congrats!

Ever think that this might be managements idea. Get a life.
I agree that Price seems too unfocused and to lack consistant intensity. It's a tough day to be knocking this initiative though.;)
--------------------------------------------------- Gomez said he has something to prove this year. So far he's proving he can suck even more than last year.
do you really think that price takes up most of his day thinking about his mask come really its not like he is drawing and painting them himself what a 5 min phone call with the artist a 2 min review and signing of the design come on just like i am taking 2 min to visit and comment on this site i am still doing my job. what price and for that matter halak is the team to start scoring.
FOR F----K SAKES!!! What Price does on his won time is his business. The damage is done. U think that Price actually wants to stay in Montreal. IT DOSEN'T MATTER WHAT U THINK JABRONI! Price is just counting down the days to FREEDOM...
"If ya smell what The Rock is cookin"
Where is Prices freedom??? Toronto?? if price doesn't want to be there then he should ask for a trade and we can get someone who wants to be here then. but then again, like price your too worried about whats cooking and not thinking. if you know what I"M SAYING JABRONI!!
"To you from failing hands we throw the torch. Be it yours to hold high."
WOW - this thread is ABOUT THE Mask and the classyness of Price- and still the Halak lovers are slamming on Price.
DID YESTERDAY NOT SHOW YOU CRYSTAL CLEAR - the team sucks on Offence & on Defence right now.
The goalies ?
BOTH OF THEM...
are NOT THE #*($&#*($&#*($&#*($ Problem.
Some of you people really really need to get a grip!
What a wonderful gesture by Price, to remember Canada's soldiers in such a public way. The mask covers a lot of areas, what with the poem Flanders Field, the soldier laying the wreath, the bagpiper, the poppies, and the yellow ribbon. I even like the name Bauer shown on it, as I grew up wearing Bauer skates.
Lest We Forget/N'Oublions Pas.
beautiful mask, great gesture ... the kid is maturing. Love the sweater with the green pants, and tan gloves. Habs looked really sharp .. even played a decent game ...
love it.
Go Habs Go!
Cool. Next he should make a mask to remember the last time he won a game.
... yes that was just a mean spirited joke. It only has been 2 games agao : )
Not everything is about hockey. Not cool.
GO HABS GO!
Just another pointless reply by someone who has no idea what he meaning of freedom and it's cost means! I bet his parents are proud of little Timmy.

You can determine that from my reply can you? God forbid I make a short, mild, hockey related joke on a hockey forum. I think the super sensitivity of Habs fans is rearing it's head again. You know nothing of me personally, which is the problem with making personal attacks at someone on a forums because it is always out of ignorance.
It is nearly impossible to find any Canadian who has not been personally touched in some way by war, especially a 5'th generation Canadian like myself. I would explain to you the ways that I have been personally touched by war but it is none of your business and that would make me the type of person who feels the need to justify myself in the face of ridiculous claims. You know like the person who is called a racist feels the need to list all their black friends to prove they are not.
I have nothing to prove to you or anyone else on here.
"I bet his parents are proud of little Timmy"
So also from my reply you have determined that I have parents...that I have dissapointed them..that I am young...that I am not a girl...
agreed.
Go Habs Go!
Your post was at 10:47am. I was at a Rememberance service in Etobicoke. I guess you were still surifing hockey sites on the net...
Different time zones there sucre. Look at the profile - Winnipeg.
lol, well done.

Is that Sidney Crosby in your avatar?

Haha, no Chuck, that would be Carey Price himself (with myself, obviously). Funny story...
So depending on who you are that is more or less exciting. Me personally? 1000 times more exciting. Yes, I know I will be critisized for this and I am okay with it - bring it on :)
fair enough

I have 15 years of military service in the 82nd Airborne Division from the first gulf war through the most recent one. When they show photos of dead boys coming back on the news, they are my friends.
Pardon me if I checked out the habs during my coffee break at work.
GO HABS GO!
Remember to wear your poppy and give a moment of silence today for what has been given in blood, for us all.
By the way, with the help of my lawyer, we drafted a letter last week out to every GM in the league, the President of the NHL and the executive of the players association.
We put them on notice that in the event of a mortality in the league caused by a hit to the head by another player, intentionally or otherwise we would be holding them criminally liable and responsible for a lack of adequate measure of protection and that they will be named in the civil law suit that we would take against them.
It might be like having a leak against the wind, but we gave it a go.
Let us just see what they come up with at their GM and league meetings being held today.
I like it. I would participate in that venture if there is any way I can. And I would offer to retract it for an automatic 5-minute penalty for any and all contact to the head.
Hey Ian,
I'd love to hear more about that. Sounds like an interesting idea, indeed. In fact, it might make a nice write up at Lions in Winter. Let me know if you think you want to discuss...

double post
Wonderful. Well done.
To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high.
Beautiful work this mask.
Price SHOULD play tomorrow because we're on the road. It's a simple system; I am hoping Martin is following it.
--------------------------------------------------- Tired of the SmartDog icon.... trying out new candidates... HabsProf says the ORIGINAL (evil) SMARTDOG will help us win games... who am I to argue?
Absolutely fabulous. Let's hope that it sees some game action tomorrow night, if for no other reason than because it would increase what the mask would sell for at auction.

Beautiful mask - loved it at first sight last Saturday and I really hope he gets to wear it either tomorrow or Saturday...or both.

According to Martin’s system “You win your in, you loose your out” then Price should play the Coyotes!
Price is a great young man!!!!

Just one more reason to cheer for Carey.

What's the other one? Just kidding. Sort of.
That is a beauty...the Bauer logo is a little too prominent but aside from that, this is a nice tribute.
I agree with you, the mask is awesome, but the first thing that hit me is that the Bauer logo is a bit to prominent. I always take the logo off my masks. No free advertising. Same with my cars.
Since it's going to be auctioned for charity, I'd suspect that Bauer donated the mask in return for the logo. Besides, it won't look as prominent with the cage in place.

True, good point.
An amazing piece of work that expresses the importance of this day most eloquently.
