2-0 Washington already. 3 shots on net. Price looking ordinary at best!
Price looked like an allstar in the second.
secret mod
Desharnais scored last night for the Bulldogs... wouldn't have minded seeing him get another game or two.
he scored a goal today also
We are sure a banged up club. But what an opportunity for our farm hands and coaches to evaluate who can play and who might make trade bait later.
And of coarse right now players are hungry to stay and make an impression. A hungry team is hard to beat. We will see tonight who is hungry and who is not.
Gotta love Campbell and the sham discipline policy. Ovie gets nothing for boarding Kaleta and Kaleta gets 2 games for a boarding incident in his next game.
Elmer Lach's #16 jersey should join the Rocket's #9 in the rafters.
ovie's hit on kaleta was a clean hit
kaleta's hit on the philly guy was clean as well - he turned instead of facing the hit like a man.
secret mod
Ovechkin is an example to follow, he can play like no other nhl player can and he can make guys like Kaleta pay for being little b*tches on the ice. Have you seen Kaleta play, he's a dirty player and attempts to injur players everytime he is on the ice. Ovechkin does not, he plays to win, to score, to entertain. When someone F***s wit him, he doesnt call on g.laraque to help him (g.laraque would probably ask kaleta to fight first), he makes you pay.
my opinion on both hits, Kaleta's shoulders were aiming for Ross's head and only ross's head, nothing else.
Ovy's hit, was a body check, Kaleta was not fully faced to the boards, and with all do respect, he deserves every cheap shot he gets for the cheap shots he gives.
Thanks Dintrox
Normally I would agree, but Ovechkin's hit was nothing. Kaleta purposely turned his back late to get a call. Kaleta on the other hand is probably the dirtiest player in the NHL.

According to this article by Darren Dreger:
"Plekanec say he loves Montreal and was more than willing to accept a two-year deal in the summer, forfeiting a year of unrestricted free agency in the process. But the two sides couldn't agree on dollars.
That failure to consummate a deal may prove costly to the Canadiens this summer."
Is there any truth to this statement or is it Dreger just making stuff up for the sake of his blog??
It's the truth.
It's Bob's way.
I'm sure if Gainey still has a job next summer, then he'll negotiate with Pleks on June 30 or so.
Then he'll find some Plan Q replacement.
Dreger is not one of my fav's for sure, I may be parnoid but whenever he does anything about the Habs it's negative and he seems to be enjoying it. Always leaves you with the negative slant. Thankfully he doesn't do too much on the Habs.
There was talk about Plekanec wanting two years before he filed for arbitration, and since he signed the contract Pleks has stated several times that he felt a one year deal was more beneficial to him long term, and Gainey agreed. In retrospect now, a 2 year deal would have been nice, but when the bargaining was going on, Plekanec and his agent wanted a one year deal so he could increase his value this year. It was a fair deal for Pleks and he's showing us how good he can actually be. We'll have to pay him more for a single year, so really it's not a big deal.

http://berkshireonthehabs.blogspot.com/
"More than willing to accept a two year deal" is a meaningless statement unless there is a dollar value attached to it. Dreger is just trying to stir up some hits on his blog. Pleks had a disasterous season last year. His value was way down. So Gainey is supposed to sign him for double his value?
Dreger's a schmuck.
... in case you missed it earlier ... A Father and Chid Disunion - Habs and Capitals great Rod Langway has a daughter who wants to have a father ... by Mark Giannotto / Washington Post ..... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/26/AR2009112602263.html
Interesting article. Thanks Bryan for posting the link. Langway does not come out looking very good. But I think there is a lot to this story that we don't know anything about.
Theres the right way, an a wrong way and then there is the Langway
----------------------------------------------------------- Truth does not exist. But the lies do
Isn't the Langway just the wrong way, only quicker?

OK Homer
I rarely voice such unfounded predictions, but I have a feeling we might lose again tonight, and Price won't be amazing, which will cause debate over who starts in goal against the Leafs. Carey is allowed to have a weaker game once in a while, but I hope it's not tonight.
Notwithstanding the preceding paragraph, I predict a 3-something Canadiens win! Or 3-3 into OT.
"love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti"
I spotted some Halak trolls peeking their heads out earlier. They can smell it.

... A few Habs university prospects update : Univ. of North Dakota - Danny Kristo (wing) 13 games, 3 goals, 10 points and Even .................... Univ. of N.Dakota. - Mike Cichy 11 games, 1 goal, 3 points and +5 ................... Univ of Minn. - David Fischer 12 games 0 goals, 2 points and -5.
That Fischer pick is looking better and better each day. Maybe Timmins should have just selected Red Fisher with the pick.
At least then we know he'd have made it to Montreal.
Is it just me or has Jack Todd vanished since Price started playing well?
He's in the final stages of publication of his next novel, so his columns have been less frequent. I thought his piece on Andre Savard was excellent. In that column he talked at length about Kopitar being available when Gainey took Price, but he made it clear that his interest in Kopitar was largely because his wife is Slovenian. I remember well wanting the Habs to draft Kopitar - and I still think it would have been the better choice, even though Price is playing outstanding at the moment. In the new era of salary cap, goalies are available more frequently. For example, Phoenix picked up Bryzkalov for air because his salary was being dumped.
In my opinion, Todd is one of the very best sports columnists in North America. His first novel was excellent as well.
The guys at LiW tore that article about Savard apart. It was actually terribly biased and completely revisionist. passable goalies are available sure, we already have on in Halak, but franchise goalies are more rare than franchise forwards, by a long shot.

http://berkshireonthehabs.blogspot.com/
It wasn't biased at all. I think it's fairly clear that Andre Savard was a far better GM than Gainey. As for revisionist, Todd made it very clear that his interest in Kopitar's career from the start was based on the shared nationality of Kopitar and Mrs. Todd. Nothing to revise. Todd is edgy and often brilliant in his observations. If you want cheerleading and pabulum, don't read Todd.
Fairly clear? No, not at all. Savard was at best a step below Gainey. His record is inflated by people such as yourself, however when you look at it under scrutiny Savard was completely unwilling to make bold moves. Everything he did was safe. Try looking at Savard with a critical eye, read this article and tell me he's a better GM than Gainey.

True about Bryzkalov, but there was a whole lot of luck involved there. Phoenix needed a goalie, and Anaheim had one too many.
It's so easy to say we should draft this a guy before that guy when it's 4 years later. When it comes to drafting, it's a whole lotta luck.
Mtl drafted Latendress in the second round. Mtl could have had three other players that are a ton more successful, including Paul Stastny.
Last season not one person was talking about Kopitar, or the season before that. Now if people would have been talking about Kopitar over and over for since the draft then maybe I would be convinced, but not four years later.
I guess it's all how you look at it.
They call me Shane
I don't think Hab fans can be too upset with the drafting of Price. If we hadn't of taken him, then Timmins stated we would have gone with Pouliot (if he was still available) or Brule who was also in the mix. Kopitar was talked about quite a bit but not as a top five pick. More like 6-10.
The Habs made a trade with the Rangers to move up and grab Lats. There was no talk of taking Stastny, especially seeing he went just before Lats in the draft. As well, nobody knew that Stastny was going to go on and become a top flight centre.
Taking Price is probably going to work out just fine. THe real tough pills to swallow are AK46, Chipchura, and maybe Fischer.
I like AK46, I really do but when I look back I think GETZLAF, the big center we've always needed. But hindsight is....
And yea we COULDA had Carter, Getzlaf, Parise, Seabrook, but we also coulda picked Jessiman, Nilsson or Marc-Antoine Pouliot
______________________________________________________ Gionta(or any healthy body)for Captain.
To be fair though Re: AK46 / Chipchura / Fischer.
AK46 - Has shown promise, more then Lats has ever shown us really.
Chipchura - AFTER being drafted suffered a Lang / Markov Tendon injury, affected his skating development. And it shows.
Fischer - Yet again, after winning awards & being highly touted, then being drafted - only to suffer a really bad case of Mono & I believe a shoulder injury that has hindered his development.
The 3 players when drafted, where highly touted. And take the respective injuries to Chips & Fischer into account. They where not necessarily bad picks.
After the Kostitsyn experiment, I think Timmins was terrified of taking a risk with Kopitar.
CBC is saying Varlamov gets the call for the Caps.
Elmer Lach's #16 jersey should join the Rocket's #9 in the rafters.
MAB should play forward. Leach is way more reliable on the backend.
Elmer Lach's #16 jersey should join the Rocket's #9 in the rafters.
What are the lines for tonight?
"If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." (anon)
Price gets another start? Yes, he should get this start this game but they have to give Halak a start soon. Even if they want to trade him, they need to showcase him.
"Paul Mara is a joke..." ??? I am sorry but Paul Mara is doing everything they expect of him and more. Gill and Mara are not top two defensemen. They play roles. It is like expecting Metro to be a second line center. Oh wait, he is a second line center.
__________________________________________________________________________
No one man can replace Markov.
What if they ARE showcasing?
:)
1-0 dogs in the 2nd,goal from desharnais from trotter, oops make that 2-0 goal by ryan russell, trotter makes it 3-0.
Good to see the Dogs still have fight in them! Trotter and Desharnais seem to be a lethal combo down in the AHL.

... The Caps have held the lead in the second period or later in all 25 games they’ve played this season. But they’ve turned only 14 of those into victories .......... from an article by John Kreiser / nhl.com ..... http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=507660 ........................................................................................................................................
from BuffaloSabres.com,
Head Coach Lindy Ruff had some good news to report on the injury front following Saturday’s morning skate, saying that captain Craig Rivet may not miss as much time as anticipated.
The defenseman was helped off the ice in the third period of Friday’s 4-2 win in Philadelphia after being hit by Flyers’ Arron Asham.
Although the news is good, Rivet will not be in the lineup tonight due to what Ruff classified as a “little bit of ankle, little bit of knee” injury.
Paul Gaustad, however, may miss a couple of weeks with a knee injury he suffered against the Flyers.
If Leach parks his big *** infront of the net and crashes the net they will have sucess otherwise......watch out.
wow leach/chip/wyman...i can't wait to see them fly.
Makes sense, Leach is lower down on the depth chart and MAB has a regular spot on the roster over him. Plus, never hurts to have another big body up front.
Leach/Chipchura/Wyman - not one NHLer among them.
I can't wait to get our injured players back.
So who is the faster skater: Chips or Leach??
Hopefully they won't have to play NHL-minutes tonight. :)

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
Exactly.
Paul Mara is a joke guys terrible he is by far the worst d man on this team hands down anyways lets go pricer baby habs win a thriller tonight 5-4 in ot cammy with the winner
Not a thing wrong with Mara. In fact when ever this team becomes healthy there will be a whole lot of "this defense is great", because we'll be winning games!
They call me Shane
I love Paul Mara. When your team is scoring less goals than they allow you will have some minus players. If we get rid of those minus players, we wont have any players left. He is not a JOKE. He is a hard working guy who makes a difference with our team.
First it was Breezer, he retired
Then Gill, till he got injured
Then Latendresse, till he got traded
Now Mara. Get over it. Try supporting some players once in a while.
There may be other teams, but only ONE Club De Hockey...
Cut.
2009-2010 Return of the Habs
So Paul Mara's the whipping boy now?
Paul Mara's been nothing short of workmanlike in a patch work defence. If you don't expect Bobby Orr or Al MacInnis and do expect a Jamie Macoun or Rick Green then you won't be bothered by Mara's performance.
Mara's been an unsung hero for us BUT some of us here must have a daily whipping boy and since Guidoune was traded well, I guess Mara's it for ya.
I'm perfectly with Mara's performance so far, considering my realistic expectations of him. Just a few too many penalties, but that's what you get with this type of player.
FELLLLLLLLLLSSSSS are u kidding meeeeeeeeee
MARA is a beauty and I honestly hope they resign him...once he have all our D back he won't have to play as big minutes and he won't have go on the PP...him and Gorges have been a good pairing this year...Mara reminds me alot of Craig Rivet...I don't know what your talkin about all these turnovers for,
have you guys been watcjing MAB!?
Luca get your head our of your ***!
hahahaha black snake what a beauty ur are fellsyyyy
You honestly think so?? Man, I've liked what Mara has brought to the team...he shouldn't be in the top 4 normally, but with injuries he has logged huge minutes and been a good player for us.
I also like what Mara has brought. However, if BG knew that Belle and Carle were pretty much able to step in as they are he may not have signed him. But one thing BG has learned is that you can never have too many dmen who can step in.
i agree. i feel he's been playing well this year and don't forget the +/- stat doesnt tell the whole story.
No, it doesn't tell the story of the goals he's been in the penalty box for.
PS: Sorry you're not feeling well... cut down on the Romulan Spicewine!
--------------------------------------------------- Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!
Les H - I agree and used in critical situations.
He's not used in critical situations. At least not ahead of Spacek, Hamrlik, and Gorges.
I agree with the original post... he's mistake prone. Of all hte Habs out there he's the one that half the time seems confused about where to be. Takes bad penalties and is prone to weird errors.
--------------------------------------------------- Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!
RE: Paul Mara
and;__________________ he has a Stanley Cup Ring.
SD, while Mara isn't usually getting more TIO than Hamrlik and Spacek, he's been playing way more on the PK than Spacek, and he's been used as much as Hamrlik in critical situations. +/- doesn't tell the whole story, for example Hamrlik is a -6 the last two weeks, but would anyone argue that he's been anything but heroic?
__________________________________________
http://berkshireonthehabs.blogspot.com/
Hey Berkie,
I get your point but still say he's at the bottom of our +- for good reason. Let's take hte long view on this one and see how the season goes!
--------------------------------------------------- Listen to the SmartDog. He knows his poop!
leach vs. ovechkin tonight.....
Habs play Toronto on Tues (home), Buffalo on Thurs (away), and Boston on Fri (home).
Given that Price is playing tonight, how should JM split up the goaltending duties next week?
December is a hectic month, 3 sets of back to back games. Martin will definately be splitting up the time getting the hotter goalie more of the starts. If Price continues to player solid as he has been, expect to see a lot of him. As for next week, if Price is playing well and the team has been good defensivly (not letting Price get peppered all night) he could conceivably play them all, but I doubt it.
Anyone else think the team is playing with more confidence in front of him? Guess he's got that swagger back, I hope it's for good.
I'm not sure which (maybe Toronto) but I wouldn't be surprised to see Halak get one of the games next week.
Price beat Buffalo in Buffalo earlier this year, so I'd guess that he would get that game. The Centennial Game agains Boston is the following night, but if Halak draws the Leafs, Carey would play the back-to-back with a comfortable 4 days rest.
_____________________________________
Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
You're probably right, only other way is Price vs. Leafs and Boston, seeing how it's the official centennial game and Carey is supposed to be the "#1" goalie and the teams future.
You know, for all the &*$*% that MAB recieves (and I know I've dished some out), he is a +1. Compare that to Mara -9, and White and Pyatt, both of whom bust their humps but are still in the - category.
Interesting isn't it? +/- does not tell the whole story of course - MAB doesn't really play against the other team's top forwards or in those critical minutes when the game is close. His defensive blunders look so bad he is an easy target to criticize. With all the injuries, JM is probably putting Pyatt and White in situations he wouldn't under normal circumstances for their age and experience.
Yeah shouldn't MAB be the forward a la Streit?
Whatever, I'm not the coach, GO HABS.
I couldn't agree more, and I think that's the only way MAB should even be on the team when the injured start returning.
Wow, expected to see Halak in net, and MAB as a forward if any D lined up as a F.....but JM has done a great job so far, so who are we to second guess him.
