Hi Kevin,
Perfect time for a new puckcast! just a suggestion.
thanks
Why do we need to trade either goalies in the first place?
Just keep both of them an sign both of them....both of them are RFA, if they go for arbitration how much more u think they will actually get BASED on their stats?
2.5 Max for either goalie...
Seriously we need to focus on resigning Plekanec then both goalies, trade Mara (he is a UFA next year).
only if they get a high return otherwise keep both till end of season. you can trade rights for one of them at draft if you have to
We have roughly 15.3 million cap space to sign 9 players during summer. Very tough..Can't keep both goalies. Although I hope we can.
would it be a good idea to pick up Brind Amour and Nolan at trade deadline for players like Dags and Stewart and mid round draft picks. i know they are old but would add something to third line in playoffs. put Moen with them. just a thought.
checked out salaries and BA probably wont work cap wise. thought he was ufa but has one more year left on contract. Ott is another option tho . smaller salary and ufa so wont be stuck with a contract for next year. Nolan is ufa also.
Sure. Could work. Remember Gilmore in 2002.
Tom K has as many goals as Dags and Max Pac combined.
gabriel dumont and philippe lefebvre playing on sportsnet right now for drummondville. Dumont has had a great season,he is 5th or 6th in the Q in scoring in both goals and points.
I watched two periods of the game. Dumont is very fast and stickhandles well. On two occasions (one on the penalty-kill), he stickhandled through most of the opposition and got right to the net for a good scoring chance. When we drafted him, one of his former coaches described him as a Maxim Talbot type of player.
The history nerd in me is hoping against hope that one day he'll be able to buy a Gabriel Dumont Habs jersey!

the question we have to ask is this teams future right now or will the same team get better and better next 2 years...the collection of forwards we have on the team and in the minors i think the answer is no..so we may need to do the big goalie trade and other trades and go for it this year...we just do not have young up and coming forward talent on this team ..the d is solid and we have several solid prospects and same with goaltending ..
I wouldn't do that. Just sacrifice everything for a chance at one season, maybe. The object is to gradually get better and work to keep a good team capable of winning in any given year, just like the Detroits, Colorados, and the Devils.
The only way to do it is from the goal out. I think that Price is the answer, unless he doesn't want to play here and that is something that no one knows only Gainey, Price and his agent. If you want to be a good goalie and I suspect Price does, Montreal is the place to be to bring out the best in a player. If you look at the Brodeurs, Lecavaliers, St.Louis these players are good players, but they seem to always take it up a notch when they come to Montreal.
Price, by playing in Montreal can be like an idol if he can become the goalie everyone thinks he can be. For a player with an ego that is what you got to be looking for. I know that I would want to play in a place where the best is expected from you at all times. Not just go through a season in a place where only a handful of fans know your name and probably less can spell it.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
my concern is that in goal and on the d we can match most teams...our top forwards can match other teams top forwards...but our talent level after the top forwards on the team and in the minors is very poor so by the time we develop young talent our top players will getting up in age...
In regards to this Halak vs Price poll;
I think were debating who the better goalie is to keep. We should be debating who wants to play for the Montreal Canadiens. At the end of the day there needs to be a "want" on a players part. At this point I think (my opinion only and look forward to others point of view) Price does not want to play in Montreal. He's missing that desire, he seems unhappy with the pressure.
Halak seems to be in his glory when he's in net for the Habs. He seems to love the fans, the 50 shots on net don't bother him, he wants the playing time and every so often comes out and says "I want to play" He's asked! Give him that.
Either way its going to be interesting how this unfolds. The pressure of unloading a 5th round pick is great I would imagine and/or trading/keeping Halak and regretting it later.
He doesn't? It's interesting that Price goes out of his way to indulge in the history and 100th year stuff. He dons classic pads, old school jerseys, custom painted masks (what, like 4-5 now?) and loves it.
So let's not go saying he doesn't want to be here.
After all only ONE of our goalies was asking to be played or traded. I'll give you a hint - it's not Price.
Yeah but the country music meca of North America is in Nashville. That's where he wants to play!! Relax my opinion. Face it Halak has been better this year but he's an underdog! Is this the year of the underdog! Antichambre says it might be Price that gets traded folks!
Antichambre our a bunch of goons who need to get laid. I'm sorry but PRICE is going nowhere. End of story.
I have the HABS tattooed on my heart
Agreed....its all boils down to Price...if he wants to stay here.
Your right if he wants to stay. I think he will than break out and become a force in the next 15 to 24 months. If not we should be happy that we have a good alternative in Halak. In this case what does a Price of today fetch?
Price would fetch a top 6 forward and a 1st round draft pick. Or 2 1st rounders and 2nd rounder.
Trade Poll.
What do you think is the most likely scenario?
A. Trade soon (meaning from now to a few weeks prior to deadline)
B. Trade at the dealine (within a week to the day of the deadline)
C. No Trade at all prior to the end of the season
I am going with A.
I really have no clue what Bob will trade, but I think they are too deep on 3rd/4th line players...
D. Bob may be a "lameduck" GM and the Molsons are calling the shots...
The Turtleneck is the "System"...Power to the turtleneck!
B; let's see if the kids can step up, I truly believe Lappy should be given a chance on the 2nd line with Gomer and Gio, while Benny being moved to the Plex/Cammy line (this line needs help in that of size). Once Benilot has establihsed himself, Plex and Cammy will find the time and space that they've been craving since the loss of AK46. Dags is not the answer, he's belongs on a line with BGL and MAB, meanwhile, keeping our most dependable line intact, the 3Ms.

Interfering with the developing glory of the G-G-P line -- messing with the head of a highly-talented-but-hitherto-underperforming-young-player (Pouliot) just as he starts to get confidence playing steadily with linemates of his calibre -- should be punishable by death. Fortunately, only a coach of Mario Trembley thick-headedness and ineptitude would do such a retarded thing.
Also, in no known universe is Lapierre an NHL 2nd-line player. Good grief.
What glory? The habs still can't score for *** without 2 dominant lines.
------------------------"Let this be a reminder that this organization will not tolerate failure." Dr. Evil
lappy is not a second line player and should not be forced into a role that he will only fail at. lappy is good where he is at, why make him something he isn't?
What do you suggest we do, try to win games scoring 1 goal per game?
------------------------"Let this be a reminder that this organization will not tolerate failure." Dr. Evil
laps was already tried there and it doesn't work. With ak46 out long term we need another top 6 forward. I think the sk74 is the best in house option right now. I wouldn't be against trying desharnais there either since he has been on fire in hamilton. Laps is and always will be a bottom 6 forward.
A
I think a trade will happen by the end of January or during the Olympics. I think Dallas would be the likeliest of destinations. If you notice that most trades are done with teams who a GM feels the most comfortable with. Seeing as how Gainey knows most of the Dallas management team, including Joe Nieuwendyk, who Bob traded Jerome Iginlia for. Plus the he as already pulled a couple of trades with them (Ribeiro, Begin).
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
A
but at the same time, with BOB it'll be something no one expects. This is the exact reason I think he may move Price...
look now! ottawa lose 4 straight..we get to play them on saturday..hopefully none of their players get back in time and we pass them! (hopefully for good).
- Team Halak V.S. Team Price...Montreal Canadiens Fans are similar to 14 year-old Girls going through Puberty.
If BOB decides to trade with Dallas......please please please don't make another deal like Ninima (spelling?)...
I would take Neal and Bruunstrom....morrow to but he ain't moving.
I bought a game worn jersey of his from the Habs, so I know it's spelled NIINIMAA.
morrow is the captain...we wont' have him!
i wouldn't take brunnstrom...he's a quick skater but he doesn't play defense!
- Team Halak V.S. Team Price...Montreal Canadiens Fans are similar to 14 year-old Girls going through Puberty.
you know I was thinking that too about bruunstrom.....but I'm just hoping one of these days we decide the best defense is a good offence and roll with it...you know?
i take it with white being sent down it only meant that S.Kost74 is ready to come back Thursday night...
I freaking hope so
okay continuing with what sidhu brought up,
i would think trading halak to dallas makes more sense than trading him to philly cause it's not within our conference so he won't come back to bite us in the *** right away...
the centrepiece of the trade IMO would have to be james neal...big scoring winger...he's 6'3, 200lbs and is on pace for over 30 goals
would add a lot to our missing scoring depth! the danger is he's an RFA and he could be in for a big pay day!
- Team Halak V.S. Team Price...Montreal Canadiens Fans are similar to 14 year-old Girls going through Puberty.
Thank god the Sens are falling big time....we might have a chance to make the playoffs.
The KHL has fined both teams in the brawl the other day, some suspensions etc and one team is on probation. The English language Russian national news is calling it the "PUCK OFF" GAME. Both teams were awarded a 5-0 loss.
how about posting a link.

The Habs are going to lose Halak reguardless next year. He going to go to the Russian league or a team will throw a ton of cash thats the Habs can't match. I like both our goalies but one is going and sorry I think it Halak.
Is there anyone who thinks Laraque is better than White?
Much superior enforcer. He stops crap before it happens just by being on the bench.
If you mean he gives it his all, can skate, can hit, then yes. Laraque is there for one thing only intimidation. He is not doing a good job at that.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
don't look now but here come the Packers! TD 38-31 cards 4th quarter....best game of the year IMO

great game. Rodgers is kicking himself in the butt for overthrowing jennings.
that pass was brutal. Jennings had it wide open all the way to the endzone. A denfensive TD win in a defensless game lol

No way Philly is trading Carter they are starting to move now and their number one goalie will be back soon. The Habs need a big centre or a scoring winger . You are not getting something for nothing thats a100% fact. So if there is a trade they will have to give up quality.
Philly hasn't had a goalie since Bernie Parent

Do u even know what your talikng about, Ron Hextall got this team to the cup finals in 1997, had back to back 30 win seasons and posted a 2.31 GAA between 1994-99.
I think that qualifies as "a goalie".
------------------------"Let this be a reminder that this organization will not tolerate failure." Dr. Evil
He has no clue what he's talking about, he's usually on here soused spewing a bunch of nonsense....you get used to it.
Nice.
OK..Price and Halak are likely not to get traded anytime soon. BG is gonna wait until the last possible minute before trading either one - and when and IF he does - he will trade the goalie that yields the highest return. Both are capable of being #1 goalies, so it just matters what teams are offering for the respective goalies.
As for BGL being "injured" I pray to the hockey gods we buy him out at the end of this season - and if we are really, really lucky a team making a playoff push and looking for some "enforcement" in the form of a passive vegan trades with us for a 1000th round pick.
Unless Atlanta can sign Kovalchuk he a rental player for the rest of this year. I don't think theres a chance in hell Atlanta will sign him. He wants between 10 -11 mill and I don't think any team will give him that, it is just crazy. In his agent,s mind or his they think they have a shot at it so there is no way Atlanta will sign him. Next year I think he will find no team willing to comimit that much of the cap to him. So I think the race is on and what are teams willing to give to have his services for the rest of this season. I think AK and SK would buy him for the rest of this year and lets worry about next year when its comes. Make no mistake this is a rental only and when the season is over hes gone. I think Kovalchuk would open the flood gates for this team . He would take so much pressure of guys like Gionta and Cammy that this team scoring would explode. Is it worth it to loose these two young players to get a real superstar and a run at the playoffs and more. I am all for it.
He is not coming to MTL. Simple as that. As if the brothers was enough for a superstar like Kovalchuk. He will get 10 a season. Just a matter of time. But if he is smart, he will be a team player (yeah right) and shed a little off of that. Maybe 9? That is very reasonable IMO.
I have the HABS tattooed on my heart
I totally disagree he not signing in Atlanta and AK and SK may not be enough but I will bet that Waddel will get a ton for him. This guy is a rental no way Atlanta or any other teams can commit 20% of the cap to one player. For some reason he thinks he going to get that and will not sign before FA . I think AK and SK is very very fair value for a 40 game rental. I also think Waddel would be very interested in that deal.
eh-oh...GO HABS GO
Whose the goalie that,s keeping us in the play off race? Why would we trade him? If BG trades Halak it,s gonna turn out to be the same situation as Theodore and Vokun. They traded the wrong guy. Chicago is riding two goalies and they,re doing just fine. BG is up against the cap so he would,nt get much for Halak and he nwants to sign Plec.
With logic like this I'm surprised TBO is nowehere in there.
I don't think trading Theodore was trading the wrong guy. Have you seen anything about Theodore's play to make you want him back as your starting goalie. Colorado let him go, and look how they turned out now without him. They were crap with him. I bet Washington would gladly trade him if they can get a decent return, maybe even a draft pick.
I don't think Theodore is on anybodies radar. As for Vokoun he wasn't traded and he wasn't during the Gainey era either. What can you do when you got expansion teams coming in and you can only protect so many. You can only protect so many forwards, defensemen, and goalies.
Let's say a new expansion team comes into the League next year, and every team can protect only so many players from each position both in the NHL and the AHL. Let's say for arguments sake that both Price and Halak both have 1 season left on their contracts. You have Desjardins who is playing like crazy down in the AHL. You can only protect 2 goalies. Who do you protect?
If you leave Desjardins unprotected and this new team picks him off your roster, what are you to do. How can you be faulted for something like that. You have to make someone available and you hope that the expansion team doesn't pick him off your roster, like they did with Vokoun.
If you remember the Habs lost both Boullion and Vokoun to Nashville. They made a trade with Nashville after Boullion played 1 or 2 games with them. The Habs gave Nashville a draft pick. The only wrong goalie that the Habs traded away was Roy and they didn't have to do that acording to Roy, it was just the inflated egos of Tremblay and Houle. I guess they were trying to prove a point that you just don't over rule management.
I guess management has been kicking themselves ever since. Trading Halak won't be trading the wrong guy. Sure Halak will have a good career, but not as good of a career as Price is capable of having. If we trade Price away, then and only then can you cay we traded away the wrong goalie and blame Gainey.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
Vokoun? The guy who played half a game for us and then we lost him on Waivers? Ya, what a mistake...
Repeat after me......Price is not being traded.
GM Pierre McGuire will not either :)
Repeat after me.....Halak is not being traded.
Repeat my username.
You are a piece of garbage.

Why do you even remotely think that your user name makes sense? Better question, why am I even wasting time on your useless post?
hey look it's Carey Price Fanboy number one reporting for duty....
were you born a pathetic loser, or did you have to work to get that way...?
K-rackhead25
Well his nickname is HalakSucks...that is pretty disrespectful to Jaroslav. HE IS ON THE TEAM! He has also been playing BRILLIANT hockey!
That is a disgrace. I feel anyone who is immature enough like that is...nah, why bother, they don't cheer for the Canadiens, they cheer for a name plate.
probably you who made the profile above to troll......you're a pathetic troll, get a life loser.
haha....ok fine. I am ok with that :)
anyone else notice the strong play of yanick weber in hamilton lately?
he is lighting it up down there with like 12 points in a week
wow! 80,000 hockey fans showed up to watch the packers play the cardinals in Glendale today

... Jaromir Jagr " I've never seen a fight like this before " ..... By RussianHockeyFans.com ..... http://www.russianhockeyfans.com/khl/jaromir-jagr-ive-never-seen-a-fight-like-this-before-102.html ........ Jagr: "If you're a tough guy you should respect the honor code. There were people fighting around us and I was holding Verot. Then he told me: "Ok, we are done. No fighting". I released his hand and in a second he punched me in the face. I didn't see that coming and that's why I fell down." (Jaro, you should know better, never trust a guy that has had over 500 minutes in penalties in a season).
According to the Ottawa Sun:
Canadiens GM Bob Gainey asked for center Jeff Carter in exchange for goalie Jaroslav Halak prior to the Xmas break and it's expected Gainey's demands will change to facilitate a trade...The Dallas Stars might be looking for a goalie since Marty Turco is eligible for UFA status this summer and could have more interest in Halak than Biron.
The Ottawa sun seems to be the biggest rumor mill. Someone over there seems to in the business of creating discussion hoping it will pan out so they can say they said it first. One day they may get it right just out of blind luck.
I don't wanna sound cocky!!! BUT I have been saying for quite some time that Dallas was a good partner. Joe (Dallas' GM) will not resign Turco at 5-6 mil a year. He would rather spend that on a top 6 forward. And either goalie (I still have no idea who to keep) can become #1. Price would return more and Halak is way cheaper.
I have the HABS tattooed on my heart
the stars don't have many top 6 forwards.
Erricsson would make the most sense but in my opinion he isn't that good
Richards? very high salary so it wouldn't work
Benn? maybe but id rather get a player like carter then him
Neal? Never because neal is useless and so is brunnstrom.
Ribeiro? .....
Robidas would work but we don't need a defensemen.
so who does that leave us?
Carter is a smart move.he can score but where would we put him. especially when ak46 comes back.
I would NEVER Tade halak for neal.
who else does dallas got?
wouldn't risk trading halak for benn since we can get a lot more for him. the only person i can think of is erricson (or however u spell it)
I hate to say this but i think id rather trade price away then trade halak. Price's play has gone so down (at least in my opinion) over the past year and then you look at halak and hes been really solid and he can easily be the habs number 1.
we can only keep 1 goaltender and i would say keep halak trade price but if we were to trade halak we need a top 6 forward with goal scoring abilities and hopefully he has the size.
you think atlanta would take gomez's salary for kovalchuck? lol i doubt it but we can always wish.
Can't think of any top 6 forwards we can trade for.
Thoughts?
