The Canadiens held a mid-morning practice at the Bank Atlantic Center and Ben Maxwell was on the third line with Maxim Lapierre and Mathieu Darche.
Brian Gionta found himself back with Scott Gomez and Benoit Pouliot while Travis Moen was on the right wing with Michael Cammalleri and Tomas Plekanec.
The fourth line had Marc-Andre Bergeron with Glen Metropolit and Sergei Kostitsyn.

Provocative column:
Elliotte Friedman on the Canadiens' goaltending situation.
Pouliot looks more comfortable out there in each passing game. He has what now, 9 goals in 12 games I think. He sure gives JM a few options. And an added bonus is that he's not just one dimensional. What a great pick up this turned out to be. I foresee see him picking up 3 points tonight in Florida.
How about obtaining Glen Murray services for the rest of this season? What do you all think? Is Glen Murray available if required? Has he been skating on the ice this year? Not a bad pickup?????? Big winger in front of the net on PP.
Ah, let's sign him for a goof. If he turns out to be an unproductive destraction, the Habs can just buy him out. If he's a stud, they're a shoe-in for the eighth spot in the East.

Praise the Sedins all you like: bet on it--they'll be sisterly come playoff time.
They looked pretty ineffectual to me (so did our last year's squad! Glad Bob blew up the lab.)
We'll see come playoffs -- you may be proven right. (& then I turn Japanese & committ seppuku ;--)
They weren't sisterly last season in the playoffs, why would they be now?

Come on people, where`s your faith?
Montreal is going to make it to the Eastern finals, but unfortunately will lose in 6 games to the Crosby gang, but watch out for next year. Habs will have their 25 cup within the next 3 years, mark it, you`ll see.
Just a quick question if you don`t mind. Anyone ever heard of " mylan-Venlafaxine XR 150mg " ? Got these from my Pharmacy today. What do they do? Thanks for any help: )
Why are you getting drugs from your pharmacy if you don't know what they're for? After reading your predictions, maybe they're for delusional thinking.
Check this link.
Venlafaxine belongs to the class of antidepressant and anxiolytic medications known as serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). It is used totreat depression. It works on the central nervous system (CNS) to elevate mood in people with depression.
Venlafaxine is also used to treat the symptoms of anxiety causing distress in generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder (social phobia), and panic disorder (panic attacks). SNRIs work by increasing the amount of two chemicals called serotonin and norepinephrine, which are available in certain parts of the brain.
In other words, he's got some problems?
I believe it's the date rape drug. I wouldn't go out with your buddy's while you're on it. Lol.
Coming to HIO for advice on medications? Now, I have seen it all!
I am of the belief that the Habs will win their next 3 games handlely;
Montreal at Florida- 5-2 Montreal. Nets- Halak
Montreal at Tampa Bay- 5-2 Montreal. Nets Price
Montreal at Ottawa- 6-1. Nets Halak
At the end of these 3 games Cammalleri will have 32 goals, Pouliot will have picked up anoth 4G, Pleks will get 1G and about 7A.
Montreal will set alone in 5th spot when the dust settles after this week.
Montreal will hold 5th spot for the remainder of the season, but will also challenge for 4th overall coming up a bit shy in the end.
Still, all things considered, not a bad ending, I like it.
Best to let them play those games rather than jinx it. The last two wins were off the board unexpected but I still feel those games were isolated blips in what's been for the most part a mediocre season, only mediocre because of some stolen games by BOTH goaltenders, otherwise it'd be disastrous so far. If the D can tighten up and continue their stingy play, and IF the goalies can make those opportune saves not let inopportune goals go in, the offense will take care of the rest. 16 goals for in 3 games. Wishful thinking. Bold but certainly wishful. If you're right I've got some 6/49 questions for you.
see the problem is, if Halak wins, he will play tampa, and another problem is, if Price wins against tampa, Price ALWAYS plays after he wins. but otherwise i like the results :P
I love bedtime stories! Tell me another!
That would be great!
It's late, you're a little over-confident. I understand.
Might as well put Darche on the second line.
1000 posts?
I think I'm feeling a little sorry for the Lames...Nah
HOLY COW!
Flames actually lost!! 1-8-1 in last 10. Expect a move from Calgary.
A sweep of Florida would put Montreal ahead of the Flames and within 1 point of our division rival Ottawa, a strong finish by the Olympic break could have Montreal the 2nd-ranked Canadian team behind the Canucks. I suspect they'll start falling behind when the toll of their 14-game road trip starts to eat at them, who knows, best Canadian team for 2nd time in 3 years when the season ends?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Yeah, and according to several people here, Gainey was an idiot not to try and get Jokinen last year.
Funny that.
So THAT'S why my pool has gone to the sh*te-box in the last two weeks! Dang! I just look at my score. Kept seeing the rats in the office catchin up to me and was like "What the heck?" I was 30 pts ahead! Swear to god, now I'm 15 down.
Honestly, I need to check my pool more often...

I have nothing to say, just wanted to get a topic about which line a Hamilton call-up is playing on closer to 1000 posts.
almost....
there...
I would put Kostitsyn or Bergeron on that line before Moen.
You're right about Sergei. You're mistaken about Bergie.
If we consider that line as the second line and not the first line anymore, then Moen ain't all bad. We don't lose face.
Put defenseman on 2nd line, we lose face.
Won't happen. Cannot happen. Must not happen.

Yes--I said this earlier. People who refer to Gio-Gomer-Pouliot as the second line are just being disingenuous: c'mon guys -- man up and accept that you underestimated Gomez and are being a bit of the sore loser. They are on a points streak that looks good in any era, are playing both ends of the ice, and score goals of beauty.
I love Pleks & Cammy, but they ain't our first line. We'll see when AK gets back, & I promise to be classy and accept the demotion of my favourites if they are producing & performing below our beloved-but-for-now-second-line. I even vote for Cammi as Captain...
So, Bugs is right, as I said also: Moen is a third line player currently set to deputise on the second line in time of temporary need. Sounds like a plain and solid NHL-calibre coaching move to me...
Deleted double-post
I don't like the idea of a defenceman on forward either, but Bergeron does'nt stand out like a d-man up there and he is fast with a good shot. Just curios to see if it could work in a pinch.
Bergie may be fast, but not strong or griity enough to battle it out in opposing corner with big D to get control of the puck. Bergie has a Superior shot. However, that "shot" is a huge slapper from the blue line, not a wicked one-timer or wristshot on the fly in the slot. Those are two different types of shots necessitating different types of skills, none of which we are presently getting the most out've Bergie with, you must agree.
Play him forward fine; but do not diminish your talent on offence by putting a d-man on the 1st line ferpetessakes. Especially when you have other talent better suited for the job.
In this case, Sergei.

I believe mister Streit got some shifts on a second line a couple of years back.
Not that I am advocating it. Dead set against it, in fact. Just saying... you may have overstated your opposition.
Streit was even pencilled in for one game on the first. And we lost face. Played with Ryder on 3rd 2 or 3 games. Were together for Comeback of the Millenium. Mostly on 4th when forward.

absolutely gorgeous play by Sedin on the go-ahead goal vs. Buffalo. Not to mention his undressing Miller on a breakaway earlier.
Those Sedins are something else.
they sure are amazing... and to think people on this forum were calling them soft and lazy euro's over the summer.
simply because they were not born here some people thought that they were princesses and to scared to go into the corners and play good hcokey
they've really elevated their game this season. I've always felt pity for Canucks fans - a lot of good components, but they were always prone to choking at the last minute, and always played boring games - no more! They can give Chicago a better series this season, methinks.
FFS, Sportsnet has a hard-on for Oshie too.
So even if Iginla goes remaining games without a point, as he has in at least last 10, will he still be on the Olympic team? Hope Stevie Y left his options open.
He could bang some bodies on the 4th line with Richards and Morrow and provide that unquantifiable "leadership" in the room. He might also produce a bit more with Crosby feeding him rather than Craig F Conroy should he be on a "scoring" line.
Messy in here today.
Lots of people talking shite.
1000 posts about the same crap, with the occasional decent thoughtful post buried among the insults and the tough guy talk.
I know the HIO powers that be like to boast about how high the posting numbers have grown over the past year, but it seems we may be hitting the point of diminishing returns. There was a LOT of crap to sort through today, and I just didn't have the patience.
It is interesting, Chris, you mention the kind of posting going on here now. Both of us have been on this site for a long time, and I must confess it is not as engaging and interesting a place as it once was. I guess that is what inevitably happens when a site becomes popular. Some of the posters here would have been censored two years ago by Stubbs and Boone. Now they allow posters to personally attack others. I suppose that is the price of free speech, and I have just decided not to bother reading certain posters because the personas they have adopted are so over-the-top the last thing I want to do is engage or encourage them further. That said, I still respect Boone and Stubbs very much, and posters like 24 Cups, Andrewberkshire, Bugs, Two Cents, and others are worth reading--even, maybe especially, when I disagree with their ideas.

”Playing goal is like being shot at.”
--Jacques Plante
Yeah, it definitely feels that way for me as well.
I don't know, maybe internet etiquette is changing. But the biggest challenge for me is the number of posters who seem incapable of reasoned, rational discourse (or are too lazy to make the effort to have the conversation at that level). Normally there are enough of the good posters here to smack down the trolls, but these days I feel like the "good guys" are swamped.
Could be why we rarely see folks like RobertL or Ian on here anymore.
Thanks a lot for such a huge compliment Da Hema!

Things ain't looking to good for Calgary right now. I except a few changes pretty soon. Anyone?
I have the HABS tattooed on my heart
I think the Calgary situation highlites how thin the margin of victory is in the league and how tough it is to be a successful manager. Winning seems to come down to chemistry and player performance (regardless of what is on paper). Despite their best intentions, the managers job is a bit of crap shoot. I think BG has done an above average job getting us to a 1st place finish in the East and making the playoffs year after year. Many here would have said Sutter and Burke were doing a better jobs than BG - wow look at Calgary's awesome defence and Burke got Kessel and the Monster - he must be good. Bob looks like he may have been able to pull together a completely different team than he made the playoffs with last year, play most of the season with out his best d-man, and still make the playoffs again this year. Part of this is due to the fact that he made a better choice than Sutter re: Cammy and a better choice than Burke re: Komie. Smart guy.
I think the core will remain until the summer. As much talk as there is about Phaneuf leaving I doubt it will happen before the season is over, unless, of course, Flames are hopelessly out of playoffs by the trade deadline (highly unlikely). Will probably exchanges or get some shmoes here and there. Who cares really. Flames are lame.
Reading through today's posts, youse guys made me so proud. I knew that sooner or later those who thought they knew something about hockey would depart for other destinations. It was all just a matter of time. If any of you know where Gilles Poisson and Kilroy went, tell them it's time to come home to HIO. We've won!!!
Quantity always wins. Why else would the Yanks be all tied in knots over the Chinese?
I heard they now have secret moderators on HIO. All I have to say to that is "keep up the good work."
Yeah, they even have their own catchy acronym too!
What's that?
I'll let you guess.
Buffalo just got ROBBED by Kerry Fraser. What an embarrasment of a ref. Good riddance after this year, you Just For Men freak.
Haha I bet you'd love this picture of the man.

What now !? I cant catch the game
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.
Buffalo scored and Fraser called it off claiming there was cross-checking when there was nothing. Ruff was livid.
It's 2-2 now, though. Vanek scored on a make-up call. Horrible officiating by Fraser.
Interesting to see that Gomez has 17 points in his last 15 games. And had only 18 points after 34 games. I'm I the only one to see a big change in his game since mid-december?! I think this is what Gainey had in mind when he traded for him. I'm most happy with this turnout.
We are still waiting on the Pleks deal Mr.Gainey...make it happen soon!
I have the HABS tattooed on my heart
Gomez has never been a big goal scorer - rather, he is known for being an elite set-up man. With Gio out, and no other player of note to work with before Pouliot, what was he to do?

Big change? Look who is playing on his line. The first three months of injuries he was by himself and people here were ready to hang him.
They call me Shane
What Pleks deal? Signing him or a smart trade?
Sounds like it coincided with the arrival of Pouliot.
it was pretty much getting a winger that can finish of a play...
Nah... Halak's solid play is the reason.

I think the biggest change in Gomez's game is having 2 wingers who can finish off his plays. I remember him playing with either of Pyatt,/White, Laps/Sergei until mid-December. He's been great on the PK all year and sees the ice very well. We seem to notice him more now that the points are pilling up.
Let's hope it continues and that we can get production from our top 2 lines once AK gets back in the line-up

On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.
I got a question, was it the Habs that annointed Price with the "Franchise Goalie" title, or.........the media?
Losers Even After Forty two Seasons
It doesn't really matter-it was wrong to immediately annoint anyone as a great player until they have earned it.Gainey may have really wanted Price to be great, but "wanting" and "being great" are 2 completely different matters.Even Lafleur scored not more than 30 goals his first 3 years here. When he broke through and continued to produce year after year-only then was he considered a star.As i am 54 i can well remember Ken Dyden coming up with 7 games to play in the regular season and stoning the BRuins,North Stars and Black Hawks to win the Conn Smyth, and Stanley cup in 1971(this was equal to the 1993 P Roy performance)which he followed up the year after with the Best Rookie award. Price has done NOTHING to merit any praise or consideration for any form of "greatness",and anyone who thinks he may become great is not looking at the numbers and the performance. And believe me he has had some time.I don't really have any prejudice one way or another to who gets the job-the ONLY reason i am behind Halak is that his stats, performance and attitude are better(especially his win- loss-like 4 columnists basically said today-it isn't even close).

ahaha i was wondering the same thing dude
Is it wrong to say that I am not VERY confident in the Habs heading in to Florida? I mean my heart says Go Habs Go, but the past is real! Don't get me wrong I am hoping and praying the Habs do what they did this past weekend, but I think I and other Habs fans need a little more convincing. Oh well, whatever kick some *** boys!!!
I think we'll see some good games from the Habs until the Olympic break. Very important games against teams in the playoff race. I hope they give it everything they have and get a well deserved 3 weeks rest before another push in the final stretch of the season.

puck daddy has him posted as the 4th worse draft choice of the last decade!
Well I think I tracked down everything written today on Halak vs. Price, including my comments on Cassie Campbell's boneheaded question to Halak after Saturday's game...and a response to Elliote Friedman and a piece by Jack Todd.

Ya! The Habs Rule! now on Twitter!
There is no correlations between having played hockey and being an intellectually smart GM.If you don't understand what i said then let me put it in simple language.Being a great GM is about picking the other guys pocket, about being 3 steps ahead, and not 5 behind, its about looking at numbers, about not letting 11 free agents walk without a single trade or draft choice;its about missing a David Perron and getting a Carey Price then stuffing him down our throats for 3 years and anointing him the franchise without him earning his due.Its about realizing that he is not a top tier goalie and accepting you made a hugh error in drafting him #5-that you didn't outsmart other teams-you outsmarted yourself(again).
If i was GM i would have gotten draft choices for these players,i would have planned out my strategy and not make it up on a napkin as i went along.
The great thing about sports is that you can't BS talent. The cream rises to the top,and seeing is believing.Even though Halak was drafted 250th his talent shines through for all to see-and not just in his stats-but in the more preferable manner with regard to his behavior. But make no mistake his lightning fast glove hand and reflexes are a gift that i wish Price had.
