About
Dave Stubbs has been a sportswriter since 1976, which was roughly a decade after he wore the first of many holes through the knees of his jeans playing nets in road hockey (using a modified butterfly popularized by Hall of Famer Glenn Hall). He still has the welts to show on his shins from that rotten, frozen orange ball.
Stubbs kept thick hockey scrapbooks filled with game summaries and Gazette and Montreal Star stories, collected dozens of Bee Hive Corn Syrup photos and put a fortune of hockey cards through the spokes of his bikes. First book ever owned: Scrubs On Skates, the classic by Scott Young (Neil's dad).
Stubbs's fantasy is to travel back in time to the 1950s and watch the great Canadiens dynasty that won five consecutive Stanley Cups. Or a decade earlier, to watch Elmer Lach centre Rocket Richard and Toe Blake on the fearsome Punch Line. Or at least to get Rogie Vachon into the Hockey Hall of Fame – where he belongs.

I dont know the numbers but he's off the books this year. A few bucks off and a roster spot. Big George is going to get lost on that big ice but those poor small D-MAN. Laraque is coming Beware!!!
In HABS we trust.
Go be a vegan non-fighting enforcer in Sweden.
I love that.
---Hope Springs Eternal---
the guy has a no-trade (no move?) clause and ends up in ... Sweden. <snicker>
Teams should not be obligated to pay players who sign with a European team. Incredible that this double- dipping is tolerated by the NHL.
We have two excellent goalies......leave them alone.
Our weakness is lack of scoring. Too many tiny tots carrying the puck in then getting pushed off it......this season is lost....work on next year. Move one or two of the tiny tots and get a hell of a lot bigger. No goalie should be traded without Gomez as part of the package. Cap space must be managed better. Gomez' salary is too high......way too little value as he will never be a top 10 goal scorer. Find a replacement for BGL, at least a big guy with a touch of a mean streak (Moen is too nice!). If you don't think we need one just wait!!
Gill, Mara should not be here next year. We need mobile defencemen also with a tad of a mean streak.
How fitting! This in-depth report tackles this very issue.
Radically yet unassumingly your

what if they have to waiver him? couldn't another nhl club pick him up?
so....we can call someone else up when his deal is announced?
So that clears a roster spot?
And takes at least some cap space off the books?
Hey....don't they eat seals in Sweden? WHAT'S THE FRENCH WORD FOR SEAL anyways?
french term for seal - un phoque
say it out loud ;) c'est tres amusant
phoque ewe!
Le seal? :oP
Once a Habs fan, always a Habs fan
so Andrei Markov told Price after the St. Louis game: "if you're not going to play with heart, we don't want you, stay home!"
Markov is right! trade Price! that's his problem. he never plays with heart, it's all over his face. his demeanor is always nonchalant. habs don't play hard because Price doesn't give a damn!
TRADE PRICE NOW OR HABS WILL FLOUNDER UNTIL HE'S GONE!
we don't need a player who just doesn't give a damn. that's why he lets in 1-2 soft goals every game. he's a mental case. he'll never last in the NHL. he doesn't have what it takes.
all in his head. YOU CAN"T TEACH HEART! on the other hand Halak is all heart and soul.
Gainey has no idea what a goalie is all about and will cost Gainey his job!
from eric engels via twitter: EricEngels: I don't understand Tony's motivation in reporting it. We know one thing for sure, he wasn't there when it happened--if in fact it did happen
-just another side of the story, there are always 2
i asked eric to comment on the report his answers to me no comment no comment at all!

I swear to the powers that be, all this Price-bashing is getting really, really ridiculous. What did this guy do? The way people are talking, you would swear we had been paying him for 5+ years to save the habs. Wake up call people - that is Gainey's job. You want to blame someone for all this garbage surrounding our keepers, blame BG. He labelled Price WAY too early, and now the poor kid (which he is, at only 22!!) has to deal with the most fickle, immature, thick-brained fans and media this side of the planet (equivalent across the atlantic being Arsenal fans).
Markov got in his face, GREAT! That is called Leadership, and he is helping him to mature. You can't teach heart? Really? Care to explain how Sid the Kid went from cry-baby 3 years ago to Stanley Cup champion? It was all about him when he first came into the league. I will tell you how - by having Mario Lemieux take him in, mentor him, set him straight when he needed to, and teach the kid about being a Pro. Would love to see Markov do the same for Price.
I wonder what you do for a living Habiworld, and whether or not you are the best at what you do for the most storied company in your field. Were you absolutely perfect when you first started out? How long did it take for you to become a leader in your company, in your field???? And though I am responding to you, there are WAY too many others in here who throw mud around without really thinking things through...
I have been working with athletes of ages for the past 20 years, and let me tell you, EVERYONE needs time to mature into their role no matter what the next step is for them. What is key is for those who will be guiding his or her career to understand where the person is starting from so that they know where they need to get to. BG did not do this, and I would wager that he is not capable of doing it since he has not stepped in to help Price other than to force him back into the net.
excellent post and I agree wholeheartedly, cut the kid some slack we drive away to many players with this bashing. It is a wonder anyone wants to play in Montreal. I hope that the NHL gives Quebec City another franchise so all the french media can go after them......
I agree with ya 125%. The same peeps bashing him will be wishing he was back if Bob ever trades the Kid..
I can see it now - Montreal loses in the 2nd round of the 2013 playoffs, 4 games to 1, as the NJ Devils and Carey Price move on to play Pittsburgh in the Conference Final. Nick Palmieri and Andy Greene, obtained by the Habs in exchange for Price, were complete non-factors in all 5 games.
great name, by the way - "kerryprice"!!!
Cdn,good post.I do agree with you on starting price in to early.
well said but unfortunately trolls wills be trolls will be trolls.

Great post. Wish others would wake up to the real problem at hand. Lack of scoring by the bottom six forwards and a JM System that does not work and should be changed.
well said, i agree with you completely.
Halak was in nets last night and I didn't see the team play hard.
17 shots against injury-riddled Florida?
Thank you, boys. Glad I stayed up til 4am.
Yeah, I hope Halak strode into the locker room after the game and said "if you're not gonna play with any heart then stay the f@@k home!"
Watching the habs play against the "neutral zone trap" makes for a boring experience.
Don't feed the media machine, this story has as much credibility as a n Eklund rumour.
Couldn't have said it better myself, well-put.
calm down buddy. players yap at each other after losses all the time. Markov has been subject to some defensive lapses himself as well. i wouldn't read too much into it
source please!!!!
"The Future Belongs to Those Who Believe in the Beauty of Their Dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt
tony from the team 990
That's not a source. He must have eaten a bad salami sandwich for breakfast and decided he needed to make another story up while the team is conveniently 3000 miles away with the real reporters so nobody here could ask the question to back it up.
thanks

Not to make light of the situation in Haiti... But something has bothered me about this story ever since BGL had announced he was looking elsewhere...
Wasn't he going on an on about how hard a time he was having with everything? The struggles his family was facing? I'm not BGL, but if the situation were that serious, I'd like to think I'd be trying to help them out rather then find a new hockey team half way around the globe...
But thats just me...
that's exactly what crossed my mind upon hearing this news
I think we have all learned that BGL is full of a lot of talk and no action
Doesn't surprise me
I was wondering the same thing...
"love cannot drown truth, Nefertiti"
How does this affect the salary situation this year and next? Is the team picking up the contract? Is there an out to play for an NHL team during this time? Scoop?
I believe we are off the hook now for this year, but not for subsequent years, unless he signs a multi-year deal in Sweden.
Don't hold me to this, though.
correct. there is a story about this on HIO further down the page.
i posted this before just incase you didnt c it.
i was at the game last night and Price was on the entire time in the warm up taking most of the shots while Halak warmed up.
"The Future Belongs to Those Who Believe in the Beauty of Their Dreams." Eleanor Roosevelt
don't think so. look at the the cap hit for yashin with the NYI
http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=NYI&season=0910
Whoopi! Good ridance.
Woohoo! SOY LONG GEORGES! look out Sweden....he ahs an agenda....stay true to your meatballs..
SOY happy.LOL
Soy long....nice work
LOL!!!!
This way his salary will not count against the cap... bye bye Georges...
Team990 is reporting that there was an altercation between an unidentified player and Carey Price after the St. Louis game in the which the unidentified player stated: "If you're not going to play with heart, stay home!" Any corroboration on this story by the Gazette
Only Marinaro seems to have heard this 3rd hand. Sounds like another one of his made up stories. Whatever happens in the locker room, between the players, needs to stay there. "Reporters" who don't get that, just do a disservice to the team. If the defacto captain of the team gave it to Price for his bullshit play, then that's what is supposed to happen in any good team, and we don't need to hear about it.
This would seem an odd game to call Price out for "no heart" as he got in a fight which seemed to at least temporarily rally his team! Maybe Price was calling out said "annonymous" player for playinfg like crap in front of him...
My thoughts exactly. There would be a few other players I would be calling out before Price in that particular game
Wow, im sure this can be the same thing said to almost EVER single player on this damn team.
True.I can only think of Pouliot and Gionta that can honestly call out anybody on this team.
Trying to get a piece of the other team's tough guy isn't playing with heart?

Cheer for the crest on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back.
Actually, that sparked the habs in that game. They were sleep walking before Carey snapped. That is playing with heart cause he showed some emotion and made a statement by going after the other teams tough guy.
I think we can all agree this is more than BGL would have done...lol
Why am I not surprised?
I hope Cammy steps in - unless it was him already - and shows Price that the game is above him and his damn negativity.
Do you know Carey personally? Besides what you know of him from 110% and "L'antichambre", just seems to me that he seems quite positive in interviews and "negativity" might not be a trait i associated with him. Is Carey a negative and bad person because he hasn't lived up to the hype surrounding him yet?
I would love to see Carey prosper, but truth be told, it will not happen this season. That being said, he is going to want a nice-sized contract next season so it will be impossible to keep Price and Plex under the current cap structure.
Buddy, if Andrei Markov is ripping into someone for their negativity, I will take Marky's side 100% of the time.
I would love to see Carey prosper, but truth be told, it will not happen this season.-Why can't he succeed this year?
That being said, he is going to want a nice-sized contract next season so it will be impossible to keep Price and Plex under the current cap structure -Why, do you know who will be on the Habs roster as of july 2nd?
Buddy, if Andrei Markov is ripping into someone for their negativity, I will take Marky's side 100% of the time. -The third hand report from tony marinaro? If it's true, which is a big if, he wasn't ripping him for being negative he was ripping him for having no heart
Good for him
