Hamilton defenceman Yannick Weber has been recalled by the Canadiens for Saturday's game in Ottawa. Defenceman Jaroslav Spacek missed practice today and will not travel to Ottawa, but not because of the flu-like symptoms which kept him out of Wednesday's game in Tampa.
The Habs announced today that, while it was the flu which kept him out of the Tampa game, Spacek is now on the sidelines with an upper-body injury. Also missing from practice today was defenceman Paul Mara, who has missed three games with an upper-body injujry.
Mara will not accompany the team to Ottawa this evening.
I wish they would schedule 4pm games on these kind of saturdays. We get an early game (in this case 2), then wait till 7. There is no football (pro or college), no baseball, just basketball. Give us a whole day of hockey.
Not enough Canadian teams to go around. Unless they show and AHL game or something...
It's a MAB MAB world.
yeah, but I would take any hockey around that time. Instead I usually have 3 hours to figure out what I'm cooking tonight. Considering I live 20 feet from the store and I never cook anything for more than an hour, that leaves me with too much free time. Why can't the league just set itself up around MY schedule? :p
Cooking? It's Hockey Day in Canada... might I suggest Pizza and beer : )
Maybe some wings thrown in there too...
It's a MAB MAB world.
Oh I got myself some beer, and I'm probably making pizza. But, where I live (athens, GA) sadly has no great wing place. At least not one that I've found yet.
hmm, sounds like a business oportunity for you. jmsheehy19's true Canadian wings. Ask about our Stanely Cup special!
It's a MAB MAB world.
hahaha, I'd have a monopoly on the 9 hockey fans in town.
Question: Jack Marty or Guy Carbo?
If you say Jack Marty, then no matter how you dislike him or find him incompetent (pff), it's an upgrade on Carbo, no? Despite having less points than last year, saying Jack doesn't know what he's doing is akin to saying Gomie doesn't know what he's doing even if he's on upgrade on Saku and Cammy doesn't know what he's doing even if he's an upgrade on the Main Man, since they suffer from same differential in team points.
Can we play a full year before rendering any conclusions, ferpetessakes?

Anyone agree that it is time to make Patrick Roy GM of the Habs? We must get him before some other team does I say. And he would be better served as GM than coach, which is another possibility. Patrick for General Manager!
Couldn't agree more. A shakeup is needed and I think someone who knows the euphorious ups and the horrific lows of going from hero to goat in a period with Montreal's fickle fans would be good for the team. I think he would take a lot of attention away from the players too...sort of like Gretzky's effect on Team Canada in 2002.
Hi guys, been away for a week, my dad passed away. Seems like status quo win one lose one. Hopefully we pull out a win today against Ottawa.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
Sorry to hear about your dad.

Carl, sorry for your loss my friend. We only get one of those in a life time.!
Slapshot777,
Welcome back, and sorry to here about your dad.We really have to win this one today.
Do you really think that with all the money that Bob made for George Gillet that the Molsons' would even think of letting him go?
Sorry, the bottom line is money, not winning, even in Montreal.
Bob? Bob wasn't in charge of making money for George, Pierre Boivin was.
That's the bottom line in Toranna, Trottie. Here it's money AND winning. Mostly winning. We only need to go back a few years to see how the Bell Centre WASN'T full every night because we WEREN'T winning. Same'll happen again if we start languishing in mediocrity.
Something the Toranna botton-line lovers have never understood.

It's guys like you that really make visiting this sight less than enjoyable. Why can't you just stick to the facts instead of slamming my point of view, where I live and making fun of my name.
If you took the time to read my profile, you'd see that I am a native Montrealer and was attending Habs games from the time I was 5 years old (my father worked for the club and I had a pass to the press box). In those days it was ONLY about the winning. Nowadays it's about the money.
So, ease off the throttle a little bit and respect other people's point of view and don't be so typical as to disparage comments coming from Ontario - I don't need any lessons from you on cheering for the Habs.
Slamming? I wasn't slamming your point of view. I was pointing out that Boivin was in charge of making money, not Bob, as your post inferred. That's not a "point of view" being attacked; it's a minor detail. That's first of all.
Secondly, I don't need to remind you that the place WASN'T full before the lock-out when we were losing all the time if you were there. That's not a "point of view" being slammed either; it's a correction being brought to the notion that we would fill the place even whilst losing. Cuz we didn't.
Which brings me to thirdly: The way Toranna continues to fill the place even whilst losing. Was not implying that YOU were a leafer, Trotsie, merely pointing out that it is TORANNA that would be better examples suited to your earlier scenario than we would.
No slamming; please forgive any misconception on my part that lead to unfortunate perception from yours.

Don't you contradict yourself here? You say that it's Pierre Boivin who makes money for the owners not Bob but then you say that if the team is not winning then the seats are empty. Sounds like Bob does have some impact on the money making then.
It's a MAB MAB world.
Seen that way, I suppose we could say the Priceberg is also responsible for making money for the organization. If he gets a shutout every game, we'll win, and the place'll be packed forever, and the dough will roll in like dead clams in the tide.
But of course, I was referring to Bob's and Pierre's respective mandates.
Forgive the confusion.

Trots,
Didn't the Molsons say that they liked what Ganiey has done and gave him a raise or bonus.
You are right it is all about the money ,from the owners to the players.
I believe Bob Gainey has made two mistakes as General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens.
1. Acquiring Scott Gomez(which is short sighted on my part because he's only played 55 games of a contract that runs for numerous years, and it also attracted ufas like Cammalleri and Gionta to play here).
2. Hiring Jacques Martin as coach.
People need to be careful what they wish for in wanting him(Gainey) gone. I don't want to see the day where Mariusz Czerkawski, Donald Audette and Sergei Samsanov are the stars of the organization ever again.
P.S. I have two tickets for the game next Sunday if anyone's interested.....email me at thomas.nickle@gmail.com
I'm curious though, why mention you might be short sighted because Gomez is only 55 games into his contract but you don't offer the same for Martin who is also only 55 games into his contract.
It's a MAB MAB world.
Ooooo...

Tom,
I have to agree with you on Gomez.
JM is a good coach,he is doing pretty good with what he has and all the injuries we have had.
I think Bob made a big mistake signing BGL.
I have a feeling we will be in 13 place before the break and there will be a few changes with the team.
I want this team to make the playoffs and win the cup,but there is not enough time to do it.
Morning Tom, I agree with most of your assessment. I also have a much better feel for Gainey than a lot of people. But just maybe Martin was the best fit at the time and the only available. But he will have to do a better preporation and game plan than he has done to date if he is going to stsy around here for long. I feel we have much better horses than what has been playing game day most of the time.
I also think there are moves to be made and will be made before trade dead line.
I have spent my last dollar going to games for a while Tom until the product and quality of play improves to a more consistant effort.
Good morning Ian,
This is a good time to chat on here most of the complainers are sleeping of their hangovers.
Some of the guys like to argue and call names,I just don't read their post, makes it easier to keep from going insane.
Morning Paul, We are having a great time here in Florida. Been here for a month and staying for another month. Went to the game in Tampa but was totally discusted with the effort. We are going to have to start getting it together soon if we are going to have a shot at ataying off the early golf coarses.
Good for you Ian,I hope to be able to do the same ,but I have a few mor years yet.I am off work for a while have problems with my heart.I sure hope we can meet some time it would be great.TTYL.
heehee, I am still trying to skim alot of the crud thats on here, although Im guilty of spewing a bit of it yesterday.

Prowash,
I read your post ealier and that is what this sight is for (I guess).I like to read most of the post but when some try to think that they are more superior to others because they want to argue with ,or make fun off and insult 1 another. If they were in person that wouldn't happen .At the end of the day we are all still HABS fans.
CHEERS!!!!!!
This computer has parkinsons, double post every time. Sorry
Hiring a new coach was a tough call.. After firing Carbo (wasn't a bad coach, but we could all see the players lost it when playing for him), he was really under pressure to hire someone who:
1. speaks French
2. is experienced
Bylsma, DeBoer and Clouston are 3 coaches that aren't overly experienced and have success in the league this season, but after years under coaches that started with the Habs (Vigneault, Julien, Carbonneau), people and media were calling for experience - that's why he hired Martin.
I think the majority of us would agree that he isn't the best fit so far...
Habs GM Pierre McGuire: "I wanna trade for one of your MONSTERS! BAM! I want someone with solid SAP! That's SLOT AREA PRESENCE, my friend! BOOYA!"
JD_ on HI/O
I feel the same way as you do Slovak, while I was'nt crazy about Martin, I don't really think their was a better option for a french speaking, experienced coach. I still say we give him at least until midway point next season to turn things around, barring a catastrophic beginning to open the season.
Pierre becoming the GM of the Habs might be the only thing they could possible to that would make me stop following them.
It's a MAB MAB world.
Good morning all and happy Hockey day In CANADA. Today is the day that the sens streak comes to an end. Been reading lots of posts over the past few weeks. Some really really good ones and some really really bad ones. I enjoy reading other people views on what they would do if GM or what they hope happens for the team. Trade player X for player Y Halak vs Price blah blah blah. Then you have the whole hope the team tanks gang or the fire coach gang. Very interesting reading all views. I just hope they can make the playoffs and win a few games. Obviosly we are not going to win the cup this year. All I want is for the team to play competative hockey and give their all to the remainder of the season.
Now here is how I think the remainder of the season will play out. Last week of the season will decide if we make it or not. One goalie will be dealt with at the deadline or before. 50% of the people will be happy 50% will be pissed. Pleks will finish the season and not be signed to a new contract. Bob will be take another job in the organzation and Martin will be the GM. Bulldogs coach will be promoted and next year we wil see a much more inspired team play. Not sure if any of this will play out but they are likley situations that could happen.
For now though I will watch the team that is in place and cheer till the last game played by this club. I would like to know what you all think about Martin as the GM. Not sure how good he would be but this guy is signed for 3 more years and I dont want to see him behind the bench that long. Oh and one more thing...How do I go about adding a pic on my profile???
I still don't think (and hope it won't happen) that Martin becomes GM. He was unsuccessful in the position in Florida, and has said he greatly prefers coaching. Now that might just be politics, but I don't think he wants the job.
Chris, interesting points of view sir.
As far as putting up a pic. go to your profile and compleat. I cannot remember because I had Robert L. do it for me when I first started on this site. Hope someone explaines it to you.
I hope you're right about the winning streak...and I would hate to see JM as GM - almost as much as I would hate to see Maguire as GM...
To add a pic...to the top of the page where it says "You can change your profile", click on that...then the "Edit" tab, then scroll down to "upload picture". Hope this helps...

My agenda is to support the Habs through thick and thin, and not crap on other people on this site. Teams go through losing streaks all the time as well as winning streaks. Trust me, I hate it when we lose but these days, there are certain individuals on here that like to argue and insult eachother.

:)
I cant believe anyone would want the moron Macquire as G.M. I have not agreed with everything Gainey has done but i have no doubt he is better than Pierre. If Macquire is so good why has he been out of work so long? There have been alought of G.Ms fired since his days in Pittsburgh and he is still out of work. We would be the laughing stock of the NHL with that loud mouth as GM. People need to relax. Leo G.
It seems McGuire's reputation isnt as bad everywhere but here. I havent seen or heard him that many times but those times I heard him, I wouldnt say hes an idiot. Ted Nolan is a smart hockey guy, anybody gonna say he cant coach and yet hes not in the NHL. Off ice jobs in the NHL are more about 'whose got your back' than merit.
...would rather lose with Gainey than win with McGuire

Why did the US invade Iraq: IT WAS JM'S IDEA
Why is the US economy so screwed up: IT WAS JM'S IDEA
go ahead guys have your turn, its actually quite fun.
It is manifestly clear Jacques Martin is responsible for all forms of social injustice. Poverty? His fault. Racism? His fault. Imperialism? His doing. The decision to suspend "Coca Cola Classic?" Him again. Miley Cyrus? His seed. The man is a menace.

Fine, the habs drive me to drink, which Im happy about, but some people here make me want to shoot heroin to understand wtf they are talking about, One.....ONE season after dismantling the team, and people are calling out for the heads of JM, BG CP, JH, Molsons, ANYONE to turf everyone on the team. You people arent Habs fans, you dont support anything but your own agenda, and you think you can run the team any better than the guys that run the team? Then why the F. arent you on the payroll? Cause you dont know DICK about running a NHL team, THATS why. Yes, this is a place for fans to talk hockey, but to crap on players, management, ect ect? Cmon.... the guys that run the show here know their stuff, and are trying to get things done. I was ECSTATIC when we got Gio and Gomez cause I knew that BAM we got two great playmakers that bust balls almost every night to pot goals. Fate decides whether or not the puck goes into the net.
Now onto the Price vs Halak shart thats been flowing around here. You know what? STOP IT. What other team has a duo in nets like us? NO ONE, thats who. I see brilliance in both tenders, and you know what? Barring any squillion dollar deal, I think Halak and Price aint moving nowhere.
Theres a saying that might offend people here, but it rings true to the stuff that happens on this website. "Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics.....You might win but you are still retarded" Keep that in mind the next time you decide to talk sh1t against someone else on this site.

Ummm...pretty sure that I (or anyone else on this site) could put together a bottom feeder team while maxing out the cap hit, given the GM opportunity - just sayin'.
Funny how your rant portrayed your avatar so well, though. Also funny how you call everyone out, and then throw out your amusing quote to basically show how stupid it is to call people out...again though - just sayin'. You need to relax a bit, I think...

I am just fed up of having to filter through 95 percent of dribble on this site, and being here for close to two years, its getting worse and worse.

I agree.
Very well said. Its good to see common sense and sanity on here once in a while. And, yes, I've been guilty once in a while of wishing for coaching changes, trades, etc. However, I do try to be sensible and I at least know when that when the team loses 3 - 0, its not the goaltenders fault - at least not for the 0 part!
We have some good pieces in place. It will be a matter of time before the team finds an identity. Things could be a lot worse, and while the team is trying hard and doing their best, they just haven't found their game yet. They may not find it this year, but such is life. They have a better team now then they did last year or would have if they signed most of their bigger names (Kovalev, Koivu, Komi, etc.). Not to worry, things will work out.
As for all these jokers who call themselves fans... thank god they aren't running the team.
AMEN to that my friend!
PS i too live in Victoria!
Not that it really matters but Cammy does the best interviews. Don't remember enjoying listening to a player more.
The "loser point" is up for grabs for every team equally. Not just the habs!
They should follow Football(Soccer to N.americans) 3 points for a win 1 for a tie after 5min OT, NO POINTS if you lose in OT and scrap the shootout. Or if they keep the S.O. maybe a point for a S.O. loss
That will make teams play to win
It's after midnight! Happy Hockey Day in Canada!
True, Time for Ron's "Mr. Rogers" McLean to get out his sweater
Jbird - LMAO. Good one.
Damn what I'd do to have won one of those games against Florida, the game we got blown out by the Rangers, or the start of the Sens streak. These teams in the east are just so inept that no one's taking the eighth spot and I suspect Atlanta will come down a bit. Shocked at how the Bruins keep losing - and LOVING it. I'd like any team to make it over the Bruins. . . almost would feel as good as Habs making it at this point.
Nice job Buttman...........
To be fair, where would the Canadiens be without the loser point?
sitting in 7th place
Call off the tank immediately! Bob will surely find a deal that will ensure that we get to the second round!

It's like picking the "good" looking girl in the college pub at 3:00am on a Saturday morning. You might make the playoffs, but you won't be bragging to your classmates about it on Monday morning!
Who wins the Cup with the Habs as the coach, Le Chiffre or The Count?

Yes!! Another Price Supporter! He will be fine.
Why would pierre McGuire for gm even make the posts? Who would even think of that?
While we're at it let's seriously discuss the idead of having Price skip playing hockey and go right to GM-ing.
Screw it, let's discuss my little brother as an option.
It's a variation of Godwin's Law. "As an online Habs discussion grows longer, the probability of someone suggesting Pierre McGuire as GM approaches."
Therefore: "A good rule in most discussions is that the first person to call for Pierre McGuire as GM automatically loses the argument."
I like it.

getting rid of noskillgill will guarantee habs make playoffs. why does Pitt want him back? how did the pens manage to win the cup with this guy on the team?
whats wrong with you?
Rivet gave the puck away more than any other defencemen, took stupid penalties and constantly shot into the shin pads of other players. Gorges alone is as good or better than rivet and we got a potential power forward. I imagine we saved cap room too.
are you really that delusional? a first round pick and georges for an average d-man? really? trade older players for picks, don't trade players for picks blah blah blah... the forum on here has gotten laughable.
Come on, tell the truth. This stuff is so much better than the usual line combos. This is quality dildonica!
