The final decision won't be made until tomorrow but look for defenceman Jaroslav Spacek to play against the Bruins. Spacek practised with the team yesterday and said he felt much better than he dd on Tuesday. He has missed three games with an upper-body injury.
The Canadiens had a brisk 45-minute workout berfore flying to Boston. Roman Hamrlik, Benoit Pouliot and Scott Gomez all took therapy days. Paul Mara (upper body injury) practised and accompanied the team to Boston but won't play.
Jaroslav Halak figures to be the goaltender but the always coy Jacques Martin noted that Carey Price is 2-0 against the Bruins this season.
Spacek seems to have been feeling his age after the remarkable work he did during Markov's absence. I know half of you want him, BG, MAB, JM and a bunch of other hated initials put into a burlap bag with a snake, a mongoose, two rats and Brian Burke and thrown into the Lachine Canal, but. The injury may have been the break he needed to recharge a little.
You really have to stop writing to Bob care of HIO. I don't think he reads us.
Crap, Spacek is back. Please trade him soon Bob

Hitting the bottle before you wrote this, Pat? :P
Come on Bob...trade Halak, Spacek, Weber, and Gill for Kovalchuk
get it done?
get it done?
Rumor is that Boston will be getting Kovalchuk.
Alright...We trade Spacek, Weber, and Gill to Atlanta for future considerations (preferably positive ones)...then we trade them Halak for Kovalchuk, using those considerations....ya i know im dreaming
I'm sure Atlanta's just DYING to get their hands on that.
What's with the typo's Pat - in a hurry! :)
Jaro should get the nod, no question. JM rewarded his loss (but strong play) with another start and that worked out... why would he go back to Price? Who cares about the 2-0... the Bruins are ripe for the picking here now, we have to throw our hottest goalie at them.
Halak deserves the start. It's time to go with the goaltender that gives us the best chance at winning. That would be my man Jaro. Nothing against Price but look at the won/lost ... it's a no brainer.
halak is no question the best young goalie in the league right now.
He's had a good year, but why does it seem like Price gets hung out to dry by our D whenever he plays? Price will undoubtedly be the better goalie once he matures.
Noooooooooooo...worst player on the team, unless you count Weber...no more defence.
Dumb suggestion: Maybe they can play him on the left side now...
Knowing is Half the Battle...
I'd play Price in Boston and give the 2 back the double header to Halak on the week-end. Give Price some away games so he can concentrate on the job he has to do instead of hearing his own crowd boo him.
Nice to see some players stepping up last night. Good opportunity for SK74 to keep rolling on that line with Pouliot and Pleks. We do need Gionta and Gomez to take their line to the next level until the Olympic break. Anyone else finds Gionta's having a tough time with the puck in recent games ?
Let's beat the Bruins on Thursday and Sunday, Huge games!

On december 18th, in the middle of a 5 game losing streak, this guy said the habs would turn it around and make the playoffs.
That's pretty good. Don't know about you guys, but wasn't very impressed with Weber these past few games. On the opther hand, O'byrne looked great. Think he's ready to be a solid everyday player. Time for Mara to go.
Weber still looks a bit shaky, the dive by kesler was border line in that weber shoud have just let him go Hamirlik had him covered. He got caught up ice a couple of time and had MAB covering for him, last thing we want is MAB playing defence while not on a PP.
I think we should leave O'byrne with Markov, it has worked better than Georges with Markov in the last couple games and it will improve O'byrne's confidence and decision making. Hamirlik and Spacek together on the 2nd line and gill and goerges on the 3rd. Weber in the press box or hamilton but they should start him in montreal next season or bring him up if we are out of the playoff race. It is a little late in the season to learn on the job.
I barely noticed Weber playing last night except for those two penalties....he still needs some time with the Dogs. Poor guy, I think we put a lot of pressure on him when he was brought up for the playoffs last season, hoping he would do a hell of a job and this year the same....Isn't he here for the PP mostly??? Haven't seen him on it at all...
I usually find not noticing defensemen is a good thing. But maybe that's because we've been subject to so much Brisebois in our lives.
Reuniting the Czechs on defence can't hurt for tommorow night.
If Price is started tommorow night, will H I/O crash with angry responses?
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
A) Glad to have him back. We'd already be talking about spring tee times if it wasn't for the work that he an Hamrlik put in before Markov's return.
B) Yes... and I'm guessing that many of those responses would be generated by a relatively small number of posters.
:)
