Price starts again

posted by Pat Hickey at 18h02 EST on Mar 4

As expected, Carey Price will get the start in goal against the San Jose Sharks tonight. Price is coming off a 4-1 win in Boston Tuesday while Jaroslav Halak is trying to figure out what time it is after two cross-continent trips in three days.

The big news from the Sharks was the breakup of their gold medal line of Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau and Dany Heatley. Devon Setoguchi will replace Marleau on that unit tonight.

PRE-GAME AUDIO: Brian Gionta | Josh Gorges | Jaro Halak | Dany Heatley | Patrick Marleau | Joe Thornton | Jay Leach | Todd McLellan I and II

Why PK is in hamilton is beyond me......with him and without Spacek we may have won this one!!!

habsguy's picture

well *** !@#$%......I guess you could sense it was going to happen though!!!!

pmaraw's picture

time for ferraro to shut up about laps...

sh00n's picture

He's right though. Max is known as a pansy around the league and I personally hate that the Habs get a label like that because of players like him. I love Max but he has to man up and fight for himself on his battles. Whenever somebody comes after him he skates away and then keeps trash talking. It's gotten to the point where I actually hope someone jumps him and wakes him up and forces him into a fight.

pmaraw's picture

regardless...  for ferraro to drone on and on and on about it...  he's terrible at colour commentary.

sh00n's picture

Yeah I'm not gonna argue that Ferraro was being a tool about it.

pmaraw's picture

only guy i hate more about ferraro is craig simpson.

sh00n's picture

Price is a freaking animal tonight. And Pouliot is ridiculously skilled.

habsguy's picture

I agree on price,  but Pouliot ????...he is skilled,  but I haven't seen the ridiculous part tonight

sh00n's picture

His awareness on the ice. There's a few times he rushed in on his own and managed to keep the puck on his stick with a few guys hitting him.

And I guess you forgot about all his games he's played since he got here?

habsguy's picture

REREAD what I wrote!!!!!!! I really think it said TONIGHT!!!!!

pmaraw's picture

hes had opportunities, made some things happen.  when he came outta the box and picked that d's pocket to name one

habsguy's picture

Damn,  it doesn't look like the zebras want us to win

pmaraw's picture

its chris lee...   the infamous one.

habsguy's picture

the reach over touch the stick slash was the worst,  he barely touched his stick !!!!

Chris Lee is such a damn joke of a referee, man.

deuce6's picture

I got you there..Nice call on Plex..What a joke..

My man Gomez is starting to play a little more aggressive, liking it very much. Price is red hot so far. Gionta and Gomez can click like the ole Jersey days, we can compete with anyone.

-------US Born Habs fan, Proud to be a traitor (when it come to Hockey).

deuce6's picture

Price looks in the zone..He looked really comfortable on that Pavelski breakaway...

Why must TSN employ ex-NHLers like Ferraro? That guy is just a terrible commentator...

Love Cuthbert calling, though..My favorite game caller..

That penalty was garbage..They let a ton of crap go and Gill gets a marginal hook..

dre1744's picture

I was reading the site yesterday  and one poster was all mad that we should of traded the smurf Gionta!!!!!!

Are you kidding me the guy has 18 goals and has missed 21 games. he could easily have 28 goals this season. Gionta plays the game like a big man, isn't afraid to go into the tough spots and gives 110% all the time.

WAR72's picture

great first.

habs beat jersey in jersey.

boston in boston.

they can skin them sharks...

price on pavelski- wicked. and he saw it all the way. it wasnt a 'look what i found'. he was on it.

GO HABS GO!

C'mon Pouliot, let's startup the PPG stuff again!

Harditya_CareyPrice's picture

Why have so many you lost hope already?

We are 9th place, Rangers have no games in hand and are 10th, and the rest of the teams are only 1-2 points away with only two games in hand. It's tough but a good win streak can help the Habs finish 7th easily.

habsfansince91's picture

ill never lose hope until they've played their last game

Harditya_CareyPrice's picture

Aah, screw you Leafs!!

avatar_58's picture

Meh I don't care about points, I enjoy seeing the Leafs lose.

habs are starting tonight's game in 10th place. they have no chance to make the playoffs.

why? because all the other teams have 2-3 games in hand. ZERO CHANCE!

_Habsoloutly_'s picture

thanks for posting, not like we have enough negative stuff here as it is, feel free to jump off the bandwagon anytime!!

Bye!

Mattyleg's picture

(tries to be heard over the sound of incessant HI/O moaning)

Hope tonight's game is a good one! Be nice to see how we shape up against the 'great' teams of the West.

Anyone else noticed that most of the international goalies come from the Eastern Conference? That might explain the closeness of the teams...

---Hope Springs Eternal---

Habsrule1's picture

Lots of negativity surrounding the Habs here as usual.

How about some positivity & excitement that in a couple of weeks, we might actually have a completely healthy team (knock on wood)?

Add to that, a little help from the 3rd & 4th line, and some solid goaltending like we've had most of the year, and we may be in for some fun for the next 18 games and beyond!!

Go Habs Go!!

just for tonight.....GO LEAFS!!...........GO PENS!!....GO WASH!!....GO ISLES!!!

um....just for tonight...

and Orr destroys Lucic!..........oh wait...

Ian Cobb's picture

I am with you also izzy, but there is something down right immoral about cheering for the Leafs.!!!

Izzy's picture

well, I did do a walk of shame after I wrote that, but we really need them to win this third period and beat the B's......Pitts gotta wake up in the third too. The Isles haven't got a prayer, and the caps have it in the bag I think.

CanadienBoy's picture

Hey Ian you and Sdog had good point this morning like both you're opions well writhing and true

CanadienBoy's picture

I am with you !

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture

why the hell couldn't we get someone like this.....why is it that the laffs can pick up a Lucic clone with such ease and we are still lacking in that dept....

habsguy's picture

one of the clips you posted he jumped someone from behind, the other he gets filled in...the Leafs can have him !!!

slapshot777's picture

Just switched on the Leafs / Bruins game a few minutes ago and saw Lucic and Orr fight. Orr got the best of Lucic and bust open that big nose of his. I was really surprised to see Lucic actually fight Orr yet he would dance with BGL, coward.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

We DESPERATELY need an Orr type player.Under $1m too,I think

Ian Cobb's picture

To do what? Burke's idea of tough is obsolete in this league now.! Burke is a fool and a blowhard from years gone by.

Well said Ian.

Mattyleg's picture

Thank you Ian!

Nobody needs that type of player anymore. Look at how innefectual BGL was! Who cares about two bruisers scrapping it out while the rest of the team yawns?!

Burke is hilarious.

---Hope Springs Eternal---

Da Hema's picture

I am not so sure Ian. If any team's administration seems out of alignment with the times, it is our beloved Habs's. The organisation is filled with smallish, non-hitting, non-fighting players based on the strategic assumption the NHL would crack down on hitting and interference. The league hasn't, and the Habs consequently have a team built to do well in NCAA, but certainly not NHL, hockey.

CanadienBoy's picture

Sorrey Ian the NHL not enforcing the rules too many guys in the crease too many interf..on guys skating for the puck with in 30 feet suck!

Fly away dove.Every team has a player like that, plus many rugged players.

SeriousFan09's picture

Pure brawlers are going out of style for meaningful hockey clubs. Teams want multirole players who can do more than make a fist these days, they have no skating or stick skills and it messes with the cohesion of energy lines in the new NHL where speed has become such a major factor. Montreal's got grit on the bottom 6 that isn't allowed to do their job and AK46 is a great hitter, he's knocked Chara down, Pouliot's got good size and with some extra muscle he'll do a good job on the Top 6 as well.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

Every team has a pure brawler. Bottom 6 on this team is the smallest and softest bottom 6 in league. I agree on BP,but calling AK a great hitter is a little over the top. Especially since he gives up the puck often to avoid the hit

SeriousFan09's picture

No they don't, there is no pure brawler on the Penguins, Red Wings, Capitals or Blackhawks and that's just 4, add Montreal and there's 5. A Division's worth of teams that I can name easily with no pure brawler because they all have seen the light that those players are fast-becoming useless in the new NHL where speed is becoming more valuable than ever.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

Because they have a gm that a:likes tough players, unlike ours, and b: is willing to take chances, unlike ours, which makes it more entertaing for their fans

habs420's picture

i dont think the fans r enjoying dead last buddy

HardHabits's picture

Especially when their 1st pick is going to Boston.

Is their first pick going to be a definate 30 goal scorer?Or a potential one.

phil kessel nhl.com 5'11" 180 lbs = smurf. according to former coach and team mates, fat, lazy, poor attitude smurf. smaller then both pleky and gomez, 5 pounds heavier then gionta

Leafstv "telling their fans they deserve to win for over 40 years"

I know, our team is SO entertaining. Love seeing .500 hockey, and getting beat up every night. How'd you like the 2 Flyer games?

how did the flyers enjoy the previous 13 games against the habs going 2-11?

Leafstv "telling their fans they deserve to win for over 40 years"

slapshot777's picture

The 2 games with the Flyers had nothing to do with toughness, it was more of one team the Flyers being healthy playing against a injury riddled team in the Habs. If you took Richards, Carter and Pronger off that team with injuries, Philadelphia would be a lot easier to beat too.

I don't know why these two Flyer games are constantly being brought up. The games are over, no use crying over spilled milk. Look forward to winning games not regressing to the past. So far this season the Habs would have been lucky to have played 2 full games with a completely healthy roster.

I myself, am looking forward to getting Cammy back and hopefully playing the final 15 games with a completely healthy roster. Maybe we can then see what type of team we have.

To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.

Really? Are you sure about that?  I think we lost to the Broad street bullies because they pushed us around. And, because we're so small up front, they, and including many other teams have an eazy time pushing us off the puck. Although, I agree with both of you, you can't diminish the thought that we don't need toughness on this team. We need some mean, characteristic tough guys (aka, corson, domi, getzlaf...etc) that can score, fight and put on a show. We, my friend, do not have that.

It's not losing. it's getting physically humiliated. You weren't ,as a Hab fan?

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture

agreed... we need North American Grit... not flashy skills, this isn't the KHL...didn't the gm just watch the OLYMPICS... did he not see the composition of a world champion.

SeriousFan09's picture

This season's Lucic is pretty much a laugh and he's a gutless punk anyway. Canadiens can do better than a cheap shot type whose only scraps are with guys who can't fight back.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

HAB-PROFESSOR's picture

we all know quite well what Lucic is capable of... point being, if you are going to give up on a talented young player, at least replace him with some character that fills a void...toughness.

if you're feeling sorry now, just wait until the physical stuff starts in the post...I'm tired of being embarrased.

CanadienBoy's picture

To beat the Habs Forecheck the hell off thems to bad but not the first time

huh, say again!

CanadienBoy's picture

Habs struggle againt good phis.. teams

He just went toe to toe with Orr,tough guy

SeriousFan09's picture

And got his face mashed in for it, which I am enjoying to no end right now. I love it when the cowards get what's coming to them.

I enjoy it too,I just wish some on the habs could do it

Luchicken gets manhandled by Colton Orr. Bleeding nose.

Great fight,Orr kicked his ***. Most of the current edition of Habfans wouldn't be interested though. These doves seem fine with having the softest, wimpiest NHL team in years.

SeriousFan09's picture

One of the greatest tournaments in hockey history just occured and it didn't feature a single fight. Plenty of physical hitting and we have forwards/D that can do that but JM doesn't encourage it so that's why the team appears soft. We have the guys who can hit and be physical but the 'system' discourages it.

- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/

No fights in Olympics,or playoffs. It's a different beast than the long 82 game season. I agree that our loser coach and GM discourages it for some bizarre reason. But we don't have the players to get into that type of game anyways. Too small and very few have ever played it

CanadienBoy's picture

Bouchard , Nilan , Furguson , kordic ,Chartraw , Lambert ,Lupien cup are won with ones of those.

You need those fighters, plus tough players like Tremblay or Corson to go along with them. We have neither.
