15-8 total shots in the second period. What do these guys be thinking. The refs doing their best has usual to stick it to the Habs and give Tampa every opportunity to stay close. All season I have watching the officiating and one thing remains a constant and that is we constantly get the shaft. I mean everytime the Habs get a lead the penalties for the opposition disappear, but the penalties against the Habs double.
The Habs have got to get back to aggressive play in the third. They stopped skating in the second. Big penalty kill coming up to start the third. Kill that and then go on the atack and keep the peddle to the mat. Smith has a 3.00 GA and a 8 something save %. Yet we can get any shots on net.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
What is it with the Habs everytime we get a seemingly comfortable lead we go into defensive mode. I don't think we have had 2 shots on Smith since he entered the game.
Because protecting leads is the JM system, get them and don't fight back even when you're being pressed defensively and being horribly outshot.

tsn on plekanec http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=313226
"Long before I ever wore the jersey, I wore the jersey.” Dryden
From what I saw, he will be all OK.
P.S. No. 14 is back on ice!
Hopefully Plekanec is alright. It was an awkward fall, looks like a knee on upper leg, more like a charlie horse. Hope he can return for the second period.
To you from failing hands we throw the torch, be yours to hold it high.
Let's hope old Plekky isn't too badly hurt. It looked a lot worse at first!
What really happened the other night in San Jose:
Rather than standing in the middle of the dressing room and delivering an epic speech, non-captain material Jaroslav Spacek invites a few Habs teammates into a corner of the HP Pavilion and shows them this clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqqjnsljBrI
Inspired by the latest Gerard Butler flick, Spacek offers a “bounty” for anyone who can “get” Scott Nichol during the game. Some are heard mumbling. Travis Moen is seen looking at the floor.
After an eventless first, Spacek reminds his teammates, albeit a little more audibly, about the offer for someone to “get” Nichol. Moen continues to look at the floor.
Through two, the game’s intensity level has picked up, and Spacek again reminds his fellow Habs that Nichol is still skating. Moen studies the floor. Max Lapierre is heard cursing in French about how he is the one who should do the yapping.
A little over a minute into the third, the Moore-Moen-Laps line takes the ice and after getting a chance, promptly give up an odd-man rush due to an ill-advised Ryan O’Byrne pinch. Nichol heads up ice and Lapierre pursues him. Spacek is heard yelling from the bench, “Now! Now!”
After Nichol hits the post, Laps gives the “target” a shove into the end boards. A scuffle ensues. Once the play is dead, Moen is seen staring at the ice. Spacek smiles to himself. Ray Ferraro boils over. The rest is history.
on another note...marc savard may be gone for the year due to severe concussion.
That's terrible.
What's worse is a concussion is not one of those injuries that goes away. It's usually with you for life, much like herpes...
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
Look at how long it took Patrice Bergeron to get going again with the Bruins and he still doesn't appear to be all back sometimes. Brian Pothier in Washington doesn't seem to have fully come back from the Lucic hit, the list goes on. They can't fix your head and a lot of players struggle against something they can't beat sadly.
They have to adopt the blindside rule just to get things started, too many players are getting hurt for no reason.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Yup..concussions are maybe the worst injury to get
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
Apparently Stamkos was taking 1-timers in practice at the Bell this morning...
1st attempt- he broke a pane of glass, so he had to wait for his 2nd shot as they replaced it.
2nd attempt- he broke another pane of glass....
lol, please Steven don't hit Georges in the back of the head with one of your rockets please.
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
He sure can't hit the net.!!!!
The last time I saw these two teams play, there was only one squad that got off the bus to go on the ice. They were not wearing Red, White or Blue. Fred and I were sitting at center ice about 12 rows up in Tampa, and we were treated to the worse performance from a pro team that I have ever witnessed.
The best thing that happened was the tailgate party we had in the parking lot of the lightning, across the street from Hooters I might add. Sure hope we redeem ourselves with two points tonight.
HERE WE GO JA-RO, HERE WE GO!!!

KEEP PRICE ON THE BENCH TIL THE SEASON'S IT OVER, THEN PG WILL DECIDE HIS FATE.
It's the best thing for the habs and the best thing for Price, like I've been saying on here for months now, Halak is our ONLY chance of clinching a playoff spot.
Nuff sed.
Hmmm....member for 1 hour and 56 minutes.......Gerry is that you?
SPAM
headbanger, how many times?? There is not much left, use some padding at least my friend!!
Banger, I truly do agree with you... but I can also see why Price supporters despise you lol. But its a free world keep it up
It's just the Price loving Clique that doesn't like him...those loser's don't like anyone who doesn't worship at the alter of Carey. The mods here let them attack in groups and thats why this place is a crap hole. If the mods let everyone have their own opinion and did something about the rabid Price fans, many of which have posted below, this would be a much more enjoyable place. As it stands now they might as well change the name of this place to ILOVECAREY.COM and make Sholi the idiot the head Fanboy....
Effing awesome post, thanks for your support.
That's completely false. People don't like him because he has a horrible attitude. He comes here claiming his opinion is the savior of the Montreal Canadiens. He states that what he says must go or the Habs will fail....
Who is this guy to speak like that? And when you try to reason with him, he goes nuts. It has nothing to do with Halak or Price. It's his arrogance and constant need to push his opinion as the truth that pisses us off.
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
Good post Mike I agree.headbanger needs his head banged in good ehat foolish talk............leave the goalies alon I like them both.don't be so quick to get rid of one of them.............who do you have in mind to replace the one that leaves HA! HA!.............give us your answer BANGHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NUTS GO HABS GO!!!!!
This is coming from the same person that didn't know that bonuses were applied to the salary cap, lol, get lost, you're a joke.
This is coming from the same person that didn't know that bonuses were applied to the salary cap, lol, get lost, you're a joke.
The fact that you believe this completely invalidates his opinion makes you the joke.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Carey Price : $850K + $1.35M bonus = $2.2M cap hit, a-doy.
I was speaking to the point that you believe because he doens't understand a part of how the salary cap structure works his opinion about hockey is completely invalid.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
....
yeah, i was going it alone down there a little while ago as the sole pro-Halakian. In fairness though, there are some brutal Halak supporters here as well. Anything involving hockey or hockey opinions is fair game, but sometimes this place is scary. However it is never quite as bad as the comments section below some of the articles on the Gazette's main page... often disturbing over there, and always hilarious.
People despise him because he acts like a jack*** all the time, not because he likes Halak.
People dislike me because I speak the truth and Price fan boys cannot handle the truth.
I am traditionally kind to every single fan on here until they pull their eventually BS on me, then I turn.
Much like right now, I am being genuine, the stats speak for themselves, Halak is the better goaltender RIGHT NOW. I really don't care who has more value or who will be the long-term solution, but in order for my beloved habs to qualify for the playoffs, Halak must play 13 of our remaining 15 games, no questions asked.
Uh, no. People don't like you because you're intolerably arrogant and as soon as someone disagrees with you, you go on a frigging rampage until you get suspended.
How would you like if someone stole your identity and continued following among this site, half of the crap you read was probably Nahlsy using my avatar and tweaking my handle by one letter to simply get me thrown off.
Be careful what you read.
No, everyone knew the difference between you and Nahlsy's pathetic trolling. You're just as bad.
Correction, you speak what you percieve to be the truth. I hate to rain on your parade, well actually that's a lie, I do enjoy pointing out the overblown self-importance of an egomaniac. Back to my point, you're a fan, you have no experience in the NHL and you're just another faceless poster who thinks they're right. Nothing about your opinions gives you any more weight around here than anyone else.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
I've been right about everything the entire season whereas you, you simply drill fans of Halak any chance you have; and usually you have many chances since you spend your entire day on here, so sad.
So you knew that Markov was coming back early? You predicted Halak, this team, and Price's records to this exact date? You knew exactly how everything was going to go down this year?
LMAOOOOOO you joke!
EEEEEE-NOUGH SAID
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
Did every prediction you made about every game this season come true? I'm betting not, you really should examine the language of your posts before you click the button. No one is right about everything so you should consider that before claiming you're a prophet of some sort.
I don't drill fans of Halak every chance I get, I call their arguments into question if I find holes in what they are arguing. I don't have the time and I find it wasteful to argue with every Price-hating Halak booster around here.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
1) I don't hate Price
2) I have had many suggestions/predictions and many were correct, you inquiry is ludicrous.
3) There are no holes in agruing with the fact that Halak > Price
4) You have no life.
Nuff sed.
aemarchand11 likes this.
-Halak it alot because the Price is right-
BINGO.
Whatever he spitts out is his opinion, but he thinks it will happen. Maybe he's a bad fortune teller?
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
"in order for my beloved habs to qualify for the playoffs, Halak must play 13 of our remaining 15 games, no questions asked."
Oh geez, didn't know you were a fortune teller and knew the future..Sorry, also didn't know that hockey games are won 15 games in advance. I thaught teams approached them one game at a time..
What happens if he plays 13 out of 15, and we miss the playoffs by 2pts because he loses one game too many? What will happen then?
oops sorry, you wanted no questions asked. It's true, you for a fact know that Halak is the only way we get to the post season. Can't question HeadBanger !! He knows more than everyone else!
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
I don't need to be psychic to know Halak's numbers (mainly win totals) will exceed that of Price's. If Halak plays 13/15 games and we miss the playoff it will probably be because Price lost the two games Halak didn't participate in.
Nuff sed.
And if he wins them both, then what?......Oh, it's true, you've predicted everything with 100% accuracy to this date. So there's no way Price wins those 2 games you say he will play....
You are such a dumbass it's not even normal lol. I give up wasting my keyboard's lifespan answering your ridiculous posts. It ain't worth it people...
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
Chances of Price winning 2 games in a row < you getting laid in Vegas with a C-note in your pocket
Dude a "C" note in Vegas wont get ANYONE laid. Mr. penny machine!!!!
Incoherent drivel, next time you may also want to consult a dictionary.
Incoherent? Use a dictionary yourself, that post was by no means incoherent.
What happened teacher? Did a student prove your "theory" wrong, and all you could do is correct his spelling?
LMAO, what a joke. A teacher like yourself should know better than to run your mouth off with such unproven facts and theories. It's your opinion that your spitting out on this site, it's not the truth. You can't predict the future, and neither can any of us.
You would think a teacher would know that right?....
btw professor, when you try and be cool and write "Nuff sed", it's actually spelled "Enough said".
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
The real question I have.....out of the players we have in Hamilton, how many have a chance at performing admirably at the NHL level?
We have 3 ready to play on the roster next year, and others will come on stream over the next 3 years. We will have a team in the finals in 2013. Maybe before, It is written in the stars.!!!
Didn't you say the same thing last year and the year before and...
this season or in the future?
for now, id say pk, pyatt and white
for the future, id add on weber, trotter and desharnais
hopefully :)
and desjardins
And possibly Carle if he could stop getting injured.
Hab4life
Crap! I was hoping Cammi would be ready for the Boston game.
You know, I was watching the BLUE JACKETS-KINGS game last night and I have a funny feeling about that team. I know that Columbus is hopeless, but LA can really play my friends. Plus, Justin Williams is still rehabing a knee injury, and will be back probably sometime this week.
Looking at the West, they may face Phoenix if the 1st round. Believe it or not, it could be a great series. And, if LA happens to go a round or 2 and face the Blackhawks, my money is on LA. I really like Chicago and all they've done, but as we all know they have serious, serious goaltending issues. That blown game vs Detroit on Sunday was pathetic.
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
I like those jerseys LA was wearing against us the other night.
They're awsome..Baught a Kopitar one, that guy's the real deal.
"These head movies make my eyes rain" -Simple Jack
They're the best looking jersey's LA has ever had, although that means about as much as a degree in philosophy.
Fresh
Cammy back vs the buds on the 20th, and MAB will be back vs the rangers next tuesday.....stamp it! If jaro can get us points vs the bolts and oilers and Carey against the cubs on Sat, then MAB back on Tues should be a huge lift to the team, so pencil in a win there and Cammy coming back against the buds on hockey night in canada will be a huge x factor in beating the whining Wilson and the rest of the scabs from T.O......Make it happen boys, starting tonight!
Shaker
Thank the Lord you're not the coach and please don't "pencil in" wins, this is THE league of parity.
Why the hell would we start Price on Saturday? ;)
He's 3-0-0 this year, with a 1.00 GAA against the Bruins. You can't play Halak for all of the remaining 18 games and you might as well start Price against them, safe choice while Halak is resting for bigger games.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
We only have 15 games left, Einstein and Halak should play all but 2, the only 2 b2b'ers we have left.
Nuff sed.
I'm just kidding around. I am pro-Halak for permanent starter, but i really do not think either one should start more than 3 games in a row and no less than 2, regardless of how good or bad they play.
Jaro...Jaro...Jaro...
he beat them twice this year, no?
3 times. With a GAA under 1.
there you go
Montreal is between a rock and a hard place with regards to our two goalies. On the one hand Gauthier should be happy with his luck at having TWO young excellent goalies. But alas, it brings problems.
Montreal has to trade one at the draft either for draft picks or a top line roster player. To do otherwise makes zero sense for cap reasons and the fact we need a top six forward or a shut down D man.
Any hockey man will tell you that you must NOT trade Price. Price has shown flashes of brilliance and that with his pedigree suggests a goalie who can dominate at his position. Montreal simply can't afford to let him go and go on to a HOF career, the repercussions would be dire.
So Halak is the one to go. But wait! Halak has been the better goalie for a year and a half and shows no sign of slowing down. What if Halak leads us into the playoffs? How can Gauthier trade him in July?
So they keep putting Price in net even though it defies all hockey sense. They hope Price will catch fire and regain his rookie confidence and lead us into the playoffs. So far it has not worked. The question is how much longer do they attempt to res erect Price?
And if it does not work and Halak plays the rest of the season and plays well? I still believe Halak will be traded, but the uproar if Price falters next season will be immense. I think it is unfair to Price and don't envy him all.
Trading Halak would be one of the biggest mistakes the Habs could make. Give Price a year to back up Halak and look at the situation in a year. If Price isn't ready to take over as #1 by then he should be traded until then Halak is Montreal's #1
Triple x, both goalies will play here for a few years yet. Neither has won a thing yet and will not command a bank breaking contract until they mature. The two kids are just now learning how to play in this league and are very cheap at the present time. Neither are going anywhere for a few years. Lets try another subject that we really know something about.
Not to carry on, but is this even rational? in this logic we are left to believe that ... Halak is more valuable to other teams than Price because he is better than Price. Therefore we can get more for Halak in a trade. Therefore Price is more valuable to us because he is not as good as Halak. Brilliant!
Also, TripleX I am not attacking you just the general idea, held by many.
My point is not about who would bring more in a trade. I have no idea who would bring more, although I have to think Price still has more cache for GM's.
I never said Price is inferior to Halak. I said that Halak is playing better than Price at present. If you ask me who has more potential then I would say Price no question. When Price is on he is incredibly good....stunningly good. When he is off he is hard to watch.
Montreal is in a dilemma because Price is not demonstrably better than Halak right now so it makes it difficult to trade Halak.
To be fair, yes you did not say he was more valuable in a trade but many on here have. My thought was related to your post, but maybe should not have been placed as a response. I acknowledge that we could get burned by trading Price, but even if we trade him to edmonton and he wins the vezina, i still do not think that would have ever happened in Montreal. I really dont even believe he enjoys playing on this team, not just because of the criticism, but overall culture shock. I think he would be better out there, smaller towns, closer to home.
Pedigree, eh... ever heard of Ryan Leaf? Kerry Wood? Lamar Odom? Alexandre Daigle? Just because someone was drafted in the first round means nothing. The fact that someone has natural talent and physical potential yet STILL can't put it together because of mental issues such as maturity or laziness or over-sensitivity is actually what makes it more concerning that they will not pan out. People can hone skills, get in better shape, etc. Their personalities however, do not change. I agree Price should be the better goalie based on physical aspects alone, but the head is not there. And yeah, hes 22. Well Halak ain't much older and has had less time in the spotlight, played for his country in the Olympics and has been better, far and away. Making a draft pick based on what you see in a young prospect is not foolish... pinning your future to him years later despite all evidence pointing to the contrary is.
Talk about football yeah Ryan Leaf was a bust.....How about Eli Manning..... consistently thrown in the fire, booed in his home stadium, they continued to play him because h had pedigree....How'd that end up.....oh yeah they won the Super Bowl......He's 22 years old it's far too early in his career to call him a bust, to decalre that he has to be moved, to say he'll never be a good goalie. The only fact of the matter is Halak is the better goalie right now on the Montreal Canadiens.
But I just don't understand how you want to write this kid off yet.
I am not writing him off. I understand with the way this site operates it is easy to think someone who prefers one goalie hates the other, this is not the case with me. I like the kid, I would rather have him than alot of starters in the league. I just dont believe in holding two goalies when you can improve your team in other areas you are desperate for help in. And if one gonna go, which they should, the evidence points to Price being the inferior performer
agreed, he has been the inferior performer.....and thus perhaps we would receive little in return that could help our team......on the other hand if you trade Halak, who has been the better goalie, perhaps you get more which would in turn make the team better?
So is that an improvement? You trade a better goalie away in order to get better fs/ds ? I would take the better goalie any day over improving those positions. They are the only ones on the ice for every shift.
I'll take our 20th in the league scoring and improve it.......If Chris Osgood could win cups with a good team infront of him, there's no reason to believe that any goalie with a good enough team can't win.
touché osgood never seemed like cup material... I still think Detroit must have been paying players under the table or something to keep the roster together that they had over the years....
on Dec. 10th, 2009, Benoit Pouliot, our rising star was declared the 4th-worst draft pick of the decade. His career was rejuvanated within two months and it seems capable of being a 30, 40 goal scorer for the Canadiens in the future. Price has had much more success than Pouliot to this point, it's odd to say he can't rise further.
When Price arrived, all everyone could talk about how he had icewater in his veins and had a great mental focus for the game, did that fade away? It wasn't just that he was a strong technical goalie, he had a mental focus and a brilliance in nets to make those crazy saves at times. Why does everyone say he's lost it in his head? His record in clutch situations (WJC, AHL Calder Cup) is far better than MA Fleury's stats which were handing the United States the WJC Gold in 2004.
- I shall always remember Captain Koivu. http://habsandhockey.blogspot.com/
Ok i like Pouliot, but this is a wholly unfair comparison. A fair comparison would be to say that both Minnesota and Montreal were dumb to trade their respective players away because they ended up performing well. So why werent they when the season started? same year, same age... why did they suck? Do you think either player would be doing as well as their are had they not been moved? BTW they could both end up sucking for the rest of their careers, lets not crown them yet. They have actually accomplished even less than Price at the NHL level
Ever heard of a 22 year old goalie with a with a .911 sv% who gets bashed mercilessly as speculation abounds that he's not good enough to be a starting goalie in the NHL? Me either.
I am not bashing him nor am I saying he is not good or won't get better. But there is absolutely no reason to believe he will be better than Halak except for one wanting him to be just that. Halak has better stats over Price not just this month or this season, but over his NHL career. Price could win 8 Vezinas. But where is the evidence for me o believe this? Being picked in the 1st round? That is his single NHL accomplishment. Being drafter higher than Halak. halak is superior in every other aspect. Oh, except height
