With only two games on the Canadiens' schedule this week – Tuesday against the Rangers in New York and Saturday in Toronto – this is the time for those teams around Montreal to use some of those games in hand. That leads to intense scoreboard watching and there was some good – and not so good – news for the Canadiens Sunday.
The ninth-place New York Rangers beat sixth-place Philadelphia and that moved the Rangers to within five points of the Canadiens going into Tuesday's game. But the Rangers are down to one game in hand. Philadelphia and Montreal are tied at 76 points and the Flyers have two games in hand.
Two other teams chasing the Canadiens – Tampa Bay and Atlanta – both lost. Tampa remains eight points back with two games in hand. Atlanta picked up a point by losing in a shootout and is nine back with two games in hand.
Seriously, does anyone really think that Ovechkin will get a suspension??? With Colin (see no evil) Campbell in charge??? This guy alone is making the NHL look like a complete joke of a sports league when it comes to crap like this. I've said it before (and even had a certain poster on here attack me over it), but I will say it again...I don't know what qualified Colin Campbell for the job in the first place, and I also don't know how he contines to keep his job???
I only saw a replay of the Downie play, I didn't see where the puck was or what happened before, it didn't look bad to me???
He put his weight onto Crosby's leg. You've never seen a hit like that because unintentionally, that doesn't happen.
Wow, lots hits and injuries yesterday. Should be interesting to see how the league responds given some of the big names involved.
If Downie gets hit with 4-5 game suspension and Overchkin doesnt get anything... It'll just goto show how much of a joke the head office is, not to mention turn some fans off the sport due to shear incompetence.
Just keep winning and you don't need to look at the scoreboard.
Go Habs Go!

Had a look at that Crosby-Downie incident.
Pretty gruesome, doesn't look good for the Kid, but there's no way that you can intentionally do something like that. Crosby kept his leg in front of Downie to keep ahead of him, and it just looks like a bad-luck fall.
I was at the game Saturday in fantastic seats in the Reds (won 'em) and you realize how quickly everything happens, and how fast everyone has to think. When we're at home and we see replay after replay, everything slowed down, it's no wonder that people always assume that there is malice intended the majority of the time.
As far as I'm concerned, players have to think on their feet, deal with their own emotions, deal with the pressures of fans, media, etc, and accidents and incidents are going to happen. People sit in their thrones and loudly disparage players for not playing with intensity or heart, and then when a player's intensity leads him into trouble, those same throne-sitters instantly become the Moral Monarchy.
Please, enough with the moral finger-pointing. Laps, Ovie, Downie... save it for the REAL cheap-shots. Otherwise, it's just more boy-who-cried-wolf hot air.

Habs play Leafs on Saturday
I don't think they meant he isn't getting suspended for the hit, he wont be suspended for 3 game misconducts because of the time frame, and they are different infractions.

sorry for the double post
If Ovie gets anything less than 5 games this league is a joke. Lapps got 5 and it was a very similar play.
But as we see on a regular basis Colin Campbell is an absolute joke and has a lot to do with the players not respecting each other. Ovie should have already been suspended longer for his knee on knee hit.
I'll still be VERY surprised if Ovechkin gets anything for this.

The Habs are making me Bi-Polar.
It's going to be very hard for Campbell to not suspend him. He's a repeat offender and that was on the same level of a hit that warrented a 4 game suspenion. In fact I think this is worse as Campbell is gone for the rest of the season. Mind you Cooke got nothing so who the hell knows. I'm starting to think that it's really Harvey Dent that dishes out justice in the NHL with a flip of a coin.

The excuse given for not suspening Cooke is a load of crap; Campbell just doesn't want to admit they royally f'd up by not suspending Richards when he almost ended David Booth's season or potentially his career.
say what you want about him, but this guy helps the team and is a huge part of thier success. i see no reason why he shouldn't be captain

“I like what I’m seeing right now,” assessed Markov. “We’re not perfect, but we’re trying to be.”
I was one of those leading the "bashing phase"
each post I tried to say that markov is a world class player - his talent is not in question.
many people- including myself - were DISAPPOINTED - not BASHING. there's a huge difference.
nothing would make me happier than for the habs to have a captain, and since markov is their best player, most seniority, and obviously a huge factor in every win or loss, he should be the guy named.
I never "bashed" him - I questioned his judgement, his priorities, and his loyalty to the habs fans vs his loyalty to Russia.
I still do ask these questions - and I'm not alone - many broadcasters and experts who follow the habs at ice level, go to every practice, agreed with this position.
I don't want to go back in time - I want markov to succeed and for the habs tro win the cup - we're all on the same side; however, we lost 2 HUGE games to the Flyers before the break - 4 huge points - and a split of those 2 games would give us 2 more points and them 2 less, so we'd be 4 points ahead of the flyers instead of tied with them.
but ask yourself why is it that Markov has NOT been named the captain - especially since he's such an obvious choice??
I think that's a tough one to answer.

Good pick so his plak...1 top 20 in how 's many years.

LMAO!
Great call.

That was 100% intentional. If you want it Downie originally goes to slew foot Crosby and it went ended up taking out both of his legs. He should be suspended big time for that. But Colin Campbell is just as much of a Goof as Downie
Im suprised no one has mentioned that downie was responding to the hit on stamkos in the corner on the rush prior.
Jesus......I can barely watch that.....OWWWWW

Not Vinny. :) He's an all-around awesome guy. Always humble and always really nice.
Joe Sakic was a really nice kid...(went to high school with him).

That I believe, Sakic is all class! One of my favourite players of all time.

a little much.
Downie deserves whatever he gets, whether it's another goon taking him out or Crosby himself breaking his stick over his face. Downie's a s*** player getting away with all kinds of scumbag play.

I did make an insensitive comment. My bad.
But to answer your question, English is my second language.
I'd almost rather we protected, rested and healed key players if it were possible to do so securely.
