Alex Kovalev: two magic moments

posted by Dave Stubbs at 8h34 EST on Mar 21

Our friend Paul Kukla posts this short video clip of Alex Kovalev undressing Bruins captain Zdeno Chara last night. The Big Z was still looking for his cup later when Kovalev split he and Dennis Wideman to score his second highlight-reel goal.

You'll find both goals here, in TSN's video highlights package from last night.

Chris Cuthbert, the play by play guy for last night's game on TSN was very excited every time Montreal scored, especially Kovalev's goals. Makes you wonder if he's the only sensible one on TSN. Being a Habs fan that is.

Chris Cuthbert may possibly be a Habs fan, but Glen Healy certainly isn't. _____________________________________________________________________ Have always been a Habs fan...will always be a Habs fan. I was born on the bandwagon and will die on the bandwagon...there is no on and off.

If the Caps miss the playoffs and the Habs finish in the top three, I hope Kovalev will be given some serious consideration for the Hart trophy.

And also from the Boston Globe: " .... a pair of jaw-dropping moves by Alex Kovalev..." http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/bruins/articles/2008/03/21/bruins_un... Can't you just see Bruin fans reading this this morning, their faces slumped in their cereal, drinking coffee that tastes like ashes ... their memory banks filled with visions of early withdrawal from the playoffs, playing on borrowed time and no credit at hand ... they are spent!

It's highly doubtful that Bruins fans read the Globe.

But the picture you paint is accurate.

And they are forever...............LOSERS.

nice to see kovy pull 2 rabbits outa his hat once again!! ur the man kovey !! go habz go !!

Quote from Boston Globe writer - "Tomorrow, the Bruins have one last regular-season chance at Bell Centre to mar Montreal's perfect record against them....it appears the Canadiens have too much skill, touch, and finish for the lunchpail Bruins to handle. Seven times this season, the Bruins have been the amateur chamber orchestra to Montreal's New York Philharmonic. Both like to play, but only one can make the music sing." Couldnt have said it better!

This Boston Globe writer is in the witness protection program as we speak.

It was a special night for Kovi for sure. A star like him has those once or twice a year and his timing couldnt have been better last night. He's going to be a target on Saturday so I suspect someone else is going to have step up. Many can so we'll see who.

Love that Bruins fan with the "I'm with stupid" sign in a sea of Habs fans...classic.

Not to get too biblical on Good Friday, but on that 2nd one, Kovy parted the D-men just like Moses!

Kovy was Moses. Chara and Dennis Wideman, the Red Sea.

He parted the Black&Gold sea....

For people using Firefox or other non-Windows browsers, try TSN's beta video player: http://watch.tsn.ca/ They're really setting themselves up nicely for some online content (as is RDS with their announcement of streaming games). And don't forget, google video has all sorts of content from the NHL like the 1967 Stanley Cup finals, Game 6, Canadiens vs MapleLeafs http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=-7112379747057931230&q=nhl+site%3... We're spoiled, I tells ya, spoiled!

Back to Kovalev....NHL's "On the Fly" has the Kovy goals as 1 & 3 on plays of the top 5 plays of the night. As well as player of the night. NHL online has him #1 Star for the night. All that and he was robbed on a couple... the guys in playoff mode... nice to see the his line responding amist worries that other teams have "figured them out", "they're playing them too much", "Plekanecs is hurt" ect. Granted Boston is a team that seems unravel at our very site, but everytime we play them that little voice in your head saying can this Dominence continue... It would seem so if Kovalev has anything to say about it!

Lapierre talked on RDS that he'll buy Kovy's DVD. Imagine if Lapierre has 50% of Kovy's puck handling skill, what a player he'll be.

Sorry Mr. Stubbs... I did notice the update still thinking the lower body injury was the most recent news. Look forward to the noon-hour update....
