SO HERE'S HOW IT BREAKS DOWN TO ME... Tonight i will pull on my Habs Jersey, sit down with my Habs mug as I've done for over 25 years. Tonight I will not be sitting in my Grandmothers room at the edge of the bed (my spot) next to my dog, with my dad sitting in the chair, and my mom standing in the doorway (she was always hoping the Nordiques would win just to go against everyone) But thats what i will be thinking about as we are assured 1st or 2nd. I will watch relaxed and happy that its the last game before Overtime Magic mode. Those of you who know, are the ones I'm talking to. Tonight we don't think about the Canadian dollar, taxes on the building, or deeper pockets in the USA. TONIGHT WE THINK ABOUT almost 100 years. Tonight we think about how much HASN'T changed. AND MOSTLY WE THINK ABOUT WHERE WE COME FROM. What 'to you from falling hands we throw the torch' means, and how far into our heritage that goes. Tonight we play for who we are, and who were playing against. Tonight we cheer for who we are. Salut. 17 wins and we are all home again.

joeybarrie:

couldn't agree more with the sentiment.

Here's to the Habs (and the grandmdothers who taught us to love them)

go habs go

At the end of the day, I don't think it really matters who we play in the playoffs. To go all the way, you have to beat anybody and everybody. Of course I prefer boston to ottawa but we'll have to beat one or the other in any case ( unless we don't face any of them at all and they get eliminated in the first).

I hope we get the Sens. It's gonna be choke time again for them!!!

Ed's picture

It's a good list, but I think point 11 needs updating. We actually have 7 players with 50 points, not 7 players with 40 plus points. It does not reflect the fact that Higgins reached 50 points in the last game.

EDIT - You sneaky you. You had a link, and then deleted it and edited your comment while I was replying. Anyways, it's still a good list.

Ed - Your not seeing things , it was just an old ghost from the Montreal Forum passing by the site on his way to his new residence the Bell Center for the run for glory.

Ed's picture

LOL. I hope all those old ghosts make it to the Bell Centre. We won't turn down any help.

All this time on who we are going to play. I say look at the other side of the fence and at those teams that are so scared that they face the Habs in the 1st round and not have home advantage. Habs 2nd half and their recent surge at home and their excellent road record and those unbelieveable fans are not inviting to any team come playoff time.

Ed's picture

Right on nightmare_49. The Habs are the other teams' worst nightmare. You, on the other hand are a good nightmare!

You are the first one that I have seen who suggested we look at the other side of the fence. Why do we always worry about who we are going to play? The Habs have proven themselves this year, so let's bring it on.

I wonder if other fans have spent as much time as our fans trying to figure out who will play who. If so, I bet you are right, and that they don't want to face the Canadiens. GO HABS GO!!!!

Well said NM49 and Ed. Great point.

Heres how it all breaks down.

If we win and philly wins and boston loses, we play boston bc they finish 8th, sens play pitts

If boston loses and philly loses, we finish 2nd, ottawa finishes 6th, bruins 7th, we play boston.

Boston and phill could both win and then sens end up in 8th, and then it all depends on whether we beat the leafs. If we do, we play ottawa. If we dont, we play philly.

So im not gonna map it all out - its hurting my brain - but suffice to say a first round matchup vs ottawa is definitely not set at all.

Bill H's picture

Thanks for trying JB. I think I'll just wait and see how it turns out. It doesn't really matter as we can handle whoever we play in the first round. Pittsburg and the Rangers would be our toughest matchups, and we won't see them at least until the second round.

Ed's picture

I'm with you Bill. There are just too many possibilities for me to even bother to worry about the end result. I am amazed at the time people have spent trying to figure out the possible scenarios. They have way more imagination than me. I am satisfied to wait until tomorrow. It will be here before we know it. Tempus fugit. (I think)

I am not sure that i follow how those standings work. Ottawa is in 7th place, tied with Boston in points, and with more wins. Boston is listed as 6th place, I guess because they have a game in hand. So if they get a point against Buffalo in their remaining game, they stay ahead of Ottawa on points. But if they lose in regulation time, then they remain tied in points with Ottawa, but switch places with Ottawa in the standings because Ottawa has more wins.

It is the same situation with the Hurricanes and the Capitals. They are tied in points and the Hurricanes have more wins, but they are below the Capitals in the standings because the Capitals have one game remaining. The Caps must get a point in their game against Florida to secure 3rd place. If they lose in regulation time, they drop out of the playoffs into 9th spot and Carolina jumps to 3rd place.

Well, fighting to catch Ottawa all season in the standings, the Canadiens now may face them in the first round. Good thing we seem to have recently found a way to beat them. And now Ottawa will be playing without Alfredson and Fischer. I am very confident we can handle them. Especially with the Senators in free fall, having won only 3 in their last 10 games.

I am concerned about the Leaf goons trying to make a statement tonight by taking out one of our players, say Kovalev. It just another notch on his belt for someone like Bell, it would seem. I hope Carbo can use home ice advantage to keep our best players away from Toronto goons.

Looks like were going to face the Sens in the first round.

Rugger's picture

I think we are just as likely to get Boston or Philly. So many combinations.

5/10 we get the sens
3/10 we get the bruins
2/10 we get the flyers

Hey guys,

I put together the results of our season series for our possible first round opponents. If we lose tonight, then here's hoping that Boston also loses and ends up in 7th. If we win, facing Philly wouldn't be that bad. If we lose and Boston wins, then we face the Sens, which is a bit more iffy.

Wisdom's picture

Could we face the Caps in the second round if they finish 3rd? or is that impossible?

MikeMcLaren's picture

If all top four seeds win the first round and the Capitals are in third, and the Canadiens finish 2nd then yes, the Canadiens would face the Caps in the second round.

GO HABS GO!

Technically, the fifth-place team could beat the fourth-place team and we would still play the Caps.

ahh yes.. thanks guys
TONIGHT IS GONNA BE A GOOD ONE!
GO HABS GO!

The system is absolutely crazy when Washington can go from 3rd to 9th, if they get no points in their last game against Florida. Then Carolina would go from 9th to 3rd.

Just last night, I believe the reverse happened. Washington went from 9th to 3rd, and Carolina dropped from 3rd to 9th. Crazy!

Oh, by the way, I have a fear of heights, and I get dizzy when I look down the standings to try and find the leafs. They are so far down, and so far away. Oh those dizzying heights! I just love it!
