One day before the Canadiens and Boston Bruins face off in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference best-of-seven quarterfinal. Expect the 142nd consecutive sellout of the Bell Centre to be vocal in its support of the Habs, and disapproving of all things black and gold.

Montreal head coach Guy Carbonneau meets the media mid-afternoon today prior to his team's Bell Centre practice.

Claude Julien's Bruins skate in Boston, then arrive in Montreal late afternoon or early evening. We'll have updates along the way today. But to start you off, here's a roundup of some of the day's coverage:

I posted this in another thread as well... I need some help...does anyone know where I can watch the Habs game online? I live in the U.S. (California) and just tried to watch the Pens-Ottawa game on CBC online and it said "Not available in your area"! WTF??!! I thought the whole idea of the internet was to access things anywhere and everywhere! Anyhow, I would really appreciate some help, cause I would love to watch it online from work.

Anyone else notice that on CBC's hockey page, the top (16) headlines are devoid of anything Habs? ------------------------------------------------------------ My ultimate dream: Captain Saku Koivu skating around the Bell Centre holding the Stanley Cup.

Come on, I'm sure there's lots of newsworthy Leafs stuff going on. Maybe Sundin had an itch. Or is dating Belinda Stronach. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat

Off Topic..... Teacher / habs-fan... I don't think the Bruin Bloggers appreciate you :)

Why do you say that? "One face-off, one battle, one shift, one period, one game, one series at a time."

I was hoping the Sen would beat the Penguins up a little but Redden and Crosby look like they are about to get real friendly in this pic. http://www.thescore.com/nhl/

Completely off topic but who else thinks thescore.com looks a lot like the new tsn.ca?

Habs_008's picture
lol, Yeah I just compared the two..they are very similar. TSN looks like it has a bit more...but otherwise the same..it really doesnt matter I go here for all my habs source, then TSN and third I go to sportsnet..but this site is the best of everything Habs.

HOLY MACANAH! WHAT A MOVE BY KOVALEV(said that in my most nasal voice possible) I think I just threw up in my mouth.

In obvious agreement will all the comments below on CBC and their sad coverage of HNIC. I've often wondered how Maclean can sit next to Cherry and just grin in agreement with some of his comments. If I do have one negative comment about RDS to pass along, it's on Yvon Pednault. He is too much of a "connaisseur", like Howie Meeker used to be, and he seems to have a one sided opinion (always negative) on a couple of Habs. These remarks are echoed on several French blogs by fans all over. No one is perfect in this world but believe me, comments about Pednault are not always kind. On the other hand, if listening to Cole and his sidekicks is the only alternative, then Yvon is fine by me. Wonderful to hear the positive comments on P.K.Subban and his continued progress and stellar play.

What time was/is practice today???

I completely agree with Bill Brownstein (Too little, too late for Toronto Broadcasting Corp.). I'm a die hard Habs fan living in Toronto and not once did I see a newspaper article about the Habs, unless they were being trashed. To my surprise, when I opened the sports section this morning, I see a picture of Mr. Kovalev and right next to it an article about the CBC broadcasting the Habs games. I gave up on the CBC a LONG time ago. I was sick and tired of missing out on my Habs games and on the off chance that the Canadiens were on CBC (whether they were playing the Leafs or not) the commentary would be all about the Leafs. For this reason, I bought a French package with my digital cable (because you can't get RDS as part of the sports package, it's part of the French package). I'll gladly pay my $10 a month on top of my regular digital programming to listen to Pierre Houde, Yvon Pedneault, Jacques Demers and Benoit Brunet than to listen to those goofs at CBC, TSN or Sportsnet.

Im in the Same boat La30, only I got the sports pack which gives me centre ice....if my french was better I would have got the French Pack. Im actually going to watch the games on CBC and see how many times they do bring up the leafs...I will post an answer on Friday! I totally agree with Mr.Brownstein he is spot on in his article. CBC Forgot about the habs long ago.....Thank god for digital.

P.K. Subban is on fire. 3 goals and 5 assists in the first 5 playoff games and 3 goals and 1 assist in the last four. Scored the game (and series I think) winner last night. He's really turned up his game a notch or two. _____________________________________________________ Remember February 19th: The Comeback

Sporstnet has an online Magazine out with all news on the playoffs..looks pretty cool, good idea, but i dont think it works well.

I would like to commend both Mr.Kelly & Mr Brownstein for the write up in the Gazette this morning the message is finally getting across a little to late. I would rather watch RDS then watch Cole,Cassie Cambell,or Neal.I was so fed up last year with Hockey night in Toronto I wrote to CBC twice with no response.I said there has to be another way of getting through to these people.I sent the Ombudsman a little note I had a response from him.The Ombudsman sent my note to the sports dept.I asked the quistion if they,CBC took a poll across this country who they would rather see play on Saturday nights it would be the HABS by far.CBC finally sent me an answer from Denis Andrychuk.Sighned by David Masse Senior Director of CBC Sports. They tried to tell me that viewers across this country tell CBC that they want to watch the Leafs play.I guess it was a chosen few that were asked that question. They said they do there best for all fans of this country.bla,bla,bla.Grandma is not lost in the computer YET. Go Habs Go...........

If Ottawa loses to the Penguins , we will play New York Rangers next round , which myself and everyone should be nervous about. GO HABS GO

Who's afraid of the big bad Rangers? We can take them even when they're healthy, and they're not. Gomez: 3 A tonight. Devils can't score.

NJ doesnt have the offensive power to compete with the Rangers, I'm sure itll be a close series but Rangers will take it... "If I wanted to hear from an ***, I would fart..."

cautiousoptimist's picture
I'm not sure about that - people said two years ago that the Oilers never had a shot in the first round against the 1st place Wings. The playoffs do funny things to underdog teams.... www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat

Habs_008's picture
Lets worry about round 1 first. We cant look ahead of Boston right now.

Rugger's picture
Not if Philly also beats the Caps

If we play as we can, no one in the east can beat us in a 7 gamer. As for NYR as long as they dont let Avery get to them we should be good. They take too many penalties and we have 2 lines that can smother Jagr. Our D is better, PP better, speed better. Everything else is equal.

CBC be dammed and can go to hell.I won't be watching any of their toxic spew. I watch RDS and love it.Understand various comments and watch the game in peace. Bob Cole and those other CBC dough heads are nauseating and will not get me watching.

I don't like the new TSN website. ------------------------------------------------------------ My ultimate dream: Captain Saku Koivu skating around the Bell Centre holding the Stanley Cup.

Neither do I, it seems jumbled up somehow and is difficult to scan quickly. Finding comments on articles is also tiresome, apparently a change for changes sake. Go Habs Go!

exactly ------------------------------------------------------------ My ultimate dream: Captain Saku Koivu skating around the Bell Centre holding the Stanley Cup.

O.k. so who thinks the extra wait for the playoffs will kill the Capitals momentum. Their series doesn't start until the weekend ......... that is about the worst thing that could have happened to them....no tears shed here though.

cautiousoptimist's picture
I'm an underdog kind of guy, so unless they play us, I'm rooting for them - certainly over Philly. Huet deserves more than we could give him, and Ovechkin is a wonder to watch. The Caps remind me of us a couple of years ago - except, you know, with Ovechkin. www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat

So many bitter people! Yes, the Habs have been ignored, pushed aside and worse by the CBC. Let's show them how wrong they were, by putting their ratings through the roof so they'll have to carry regional games next season. My French is alright, and frankly I prefer the RDS commentators to anything the CBC has churned out lately, but a network that is meant to showcase regional interests ought to showcase regional interests. Let's show them that it makes financial sense for them to do so. And I'll give this to RDS: if there's a Québecois long jumper competing for the Savannah Cup in Swaziland, they'll send out two guys and a camera to cover it. And there'll always be some guy who made the trip from the Beauce with a Pierre & Yvon bristle board in the crowd. RDS knows their audience. Why doesn't the CBC? www.flickeringpictures.com - not a hockey site, but still kinda neat

HabsChick's picture
Great comment cautious...You're absolutely right. I don't think I've watched a single game this year (including west coast road trips) where there wasn't at least one Pierre & Yvon sign in the crowd. I was just commenting to a Leaf fan friend yesterday that a good number of Habs fans have given up on the CBC long ago, only to see that verified by the RDS vs. CBC numbers from Saturday night. I must admit, as grateful as I am to RDS, I'll be switching over to CBC for the playoffs. My French is very weak (though I can usually understand Gainey's much more slowly spoken French :) ) and reducing the satellite bill by $7 / mth until Oct. will help us afford the new 50" plasma we got just in time for the playoffs! ;)

electazz's picture
Bill Brownstein, was right on the money. Every die hard Canadiens fan will be watching RDS. Bill was also absolutely right when he said Pierre Houde is the French version of Danny Gallivan. To all who say the RDS team are "homers", I say good for them. Why shouldn't they. They broadcast all the canadiens games, travel with them, etc., and you think that they're going to be impartiel. Give me a break!!! One last thing for those non-believers on TSN : Learn to love it, cause we are the best going today!!!!!WHOOOOO!!!!

Certainly they are 'homers' in the sense of being Habs fans, but at least they are objective about all teams. After the Leafs game, Bob Cole says, 'And the Leafs fall 3-1'; why not say, 'And the Habs win 3-1'? so irritating, and don't get me started on Don Cherry! And CBC went to commercial during the presentation of Kovalev's Molson Cup award! ------------------------------------------------------------ My ultimate dream: Captain Saku Koivu skating around the Bell Centre holding the Stanley Cup.

Go figure..... As some of you already know I don't understand French but still watch all the games on RDS. I will continue to do so. It's kind of nice that all the laff's fans and those people who say "I only watch playoff hockey" will get to see why their is such a hype surrounding our team. A chance to show all those "Man I can't believe they traded Huet" people why exactly we did trade Huet. I recall one game this season on TSN when Duthie asked the panel if the Habs were the real deal. Pierre Mcguire stated that the Habs were the real deal and that no team in the NHL could match our speed. Bob Mckenzie replied that we were a bunch of overachievers and that we would come back to reality very soon.....Now we are a great team? What a joke! Maybe he should start stealing peoples material so it appears he knows whats going on in the NHL. Golf Leafs Golf

last night on 2 networks 2 different "so- called experts picked us (the habs)to go to the cup and 1 of them picked us to win it on the score steve ludzik picked us to go to the cup and lose in 7 games to detroit and on the n.hl. network dave reid picked us to win the cup!

I am surprised to not see more Greg Stewart talk on here today.

24 Cups's picture
kRob - I can't see him getting any ice once Koivu comes back. The four left wingers ahead of him have to start first. He did have a great game on Saturday and skated well, a bit of a surprise for a guy who is here to do other things. He's still pretty raw and could use another year in Hamilton during 2008-09. Things will be really interesting then when guys like Begin, Dandy, and Tom the Bomb have their contracts run out. Stewart will also being competing with guys like Pacioretty at that time. Who knows, he may be the perfect sub just like Stortini is in Edmonton. Play a small, defined role and sign for the league minimum. The Original 24 Cups

Oh, I see how it is now. The Maple Laffs(yawn) don't make the playoffs AGAIN, so the Canadian Bankrupt Channel and the Toronto Sports Network are all making niceties with the HabsNation and "cheering" for us. Keep eating crow guys, I'm not falling for it! How fast are these "Homers" going to jump on the Senators' bandwagon if and when they meet up with our beloved Habs in the playoffs.

Sbah Reverof's picture
Thanks Bill Brownstein for a spot-on article. Like many, I'm fed up with the CBC's favouritism and obvious Leafs bias. I can't tell you how many times I've thanked RDS for being the only ones to bring us Habs games. Their coverage and analysis have gotten much better this year as well. Despite being homers (et le buuuuuuuuuuut!), they give very fair and balanced praise and criticism to Habs as much as their opponents, and at least they know the players' names on the other team. And we don't need Don Cherry. Period.

Brownstein's piece on the CBC is counter-productive. Of course all he writes is true. What he politely left out was the Tie Domi celebration over the retirement of Boom Boom's number after he had just past away which was disgusting and forever unforgivable to any Hab fan. But if you want to complain about the unbalanced coverage of Les Canadiens over the rest of the Canadian teams then dont ask them to leave the party when they show up. Show them what they have been missing. The beloved Leafs are still going to be joke for at least as long as the Habs are contending for championships. If you want CBC to stay then take part to help them see their wrongs of the past so they are not repeated and change their focus to attract the new (old) market of Habs fans across the country (especially South Western Ontario). Change opinion enough that the CBC Brass will realise that Ron and Don are no longer a fit with the "NEW" audience /market. Talk about being a part of helping to transcend a language issue....but can the CBC be political? lol I really have never been concerned about Hab coverage on CBC because I dont need they recognition for me to be a proud jersey wearing Hab fan. I have never been envious or jealous of the the Leafs so be when they get morons broadcasting their games? Losers belong with Losers. If they want to do more Hab coverage in the future I really hope they bring THEIR game up to snuff. We don't settle for less...we're not Leaf fans!

Habs_008's picture
Zing! right on Freak,I live in Laff Nation and the laffs are a joke. Don Cherry is a Joke.....There are more hab fans in this area then people think...We dont have RDS down here and my french is not very good anyway. I'm glad the laffs are out of the playoffs, its fun driving around with my hab flag and seeing not one Leaf flag..haha..but I dont care about the leafs. I cant wait for the habs to beat boston and WIN in these playoffs...what will Don say then? He will never give the habs any credit. CBC is FINALLY going to, now that we are winning...Im interested to see what will happen next year, how many hab games will they show? Lets see. But for now its Playoff time! GO HABS GO!

008 - Im in SW Ontario as well (London) but I subscribe to RDS-HD with Bell even though I lost my french years ago after growing up in Montreal before Rene and his language laws took over. I can follow the play by play but not the analysis so much. I'm more of a Bob Gainey speaking french person :)

Habs_008's picture
I have the rogers sports pack. so i get all the games in english, but its always wit an america anoucer usually...but which sucks cause some of them dont know how to call a game..others are good, I like the Wasington guy. The games on Sportsnet sucks. Those Ottawa guys are BIG Hommers. But what can you do. Now we get Bob Cole, SCORES!

Cool clip from TSN (yes, that TSN): The City is Hockey

Too bad the MSN acronym is already taken because they seem to be changing their tune.......although on their preview show nobody picked the Habs to come out of the East.

PK Subban scored the winning goal for the Belleville Bulls last night completing a four game sweep. Ryan White scored in double OT for the Calgary Hitmen after a big Calgary comeback in the 3rd period. White also had 3 assists.
