Audio: Habs on the challenge of the Flyers

A few Canadiens and head coach Guy Carbonneau weigh in on the challenge that awaits them starting tonight at the Bell Centre. Game 1 against the Philadelphia Flyers will be more than just stopping Daniel Brière.

(And to the Flyers fans who have been emailing since I suggested that Canadiens fans boo Brière for having flipped away Carey Price's first shutout puck two months ago: it was tongue in cheek, people, and while I appreciate your advice, I'm afraid it's anatomically impossible.)

I came upon this piece at Philly.com in which Daily News sports scribe Ed Barkowitz gives his opinion on which team has the edge in 6 crucial categories. It's an interesting piece, but I don't really agree with most of his assessments. I think Barkowitz is being too kind to the Flyers in some areas and slighting the Habs in a couple of others. Where this series will be close, Barkowitz misses completely. After you read each of his points on forwards, defense, goaltending, special teams, coaching and intangibles, I added thoughts - where I agree and disagree with him.

Dave, I believe you are incorrect about something not being anatomically possible. Just ask Biron, he'll tell you he put a puck up there and it felt kind of nice!!

Relax you flyer fans reading a habs site - it was a joke. Of course it could be true but I can't say for sure that it is.

What article? I can't find it?

I'll tell you what's been fun: since today's column made its way to Philadelphia, I've received a lot, and I mean a LOT, of email from Flyers fans. Some of it spicier than the rest.

But I've replied to every writer, and every single writer has answered my reply in a civil, friendly, love-my-team-and-hope-Habs-lose kind of way. Fans in Philly aren't a lot unlike fans of the Canadiens: passionate, desperate for their team to succeed, devastated when they lose, exuberant when they win.

And remember this: whatever Canadiens fans give Brière in Games 1 and 2, expect the same, or worse, for Price, Koivu and Kovalev in Games 3 and 4. That's what makes playoff hockey special.

LOL Dave, I wish you could post some of those e-mails (editted for profanity of course) so we could get some laughs from them..

It's good we didn't sign Briere. We are gonna need the money to keep all these budding young stars.

GO HABS GO !!!!

5 -- 0 tonight for Les Boyz..

namgel - I hope you didn't wake up our nickle hugging Habs fan base as we should be keying on the upcoming series and have all summer to discuss salary cap, lol.
