Zep....you're not SERIOUSLY comparing Ryder to Leclair...I've always liked Ryder and maybe broken down was a little harsh...Maybe he coulld score 20 or 25 goals on the right team....but to compare the two...not even close dude!!!

thanks nightmare...Max Pacioretty, even better a better trade, #4 on our depth chart!!!!

I have said this all though the playoffs. The Canadiens had a dream season. Even though they would have finished second (If not for the game Pittsburgh gave away). They gave us the best exciting hockey in years. We have exciting young players and the best is yet to come. I said it before, even if the Canadiens would have lost in the first round, I was proud of les glorieux. Remember, they were supposed to finish 8th at best and I was part of those people, and I really thought we would be contenders in 2009-2010. But we are here. Second round on the brink of elimination and we must find reasons to criticize Carbo, Gainey or any player that people need to bash. Carbo has made bad decisions and good ones. But the one thing he does is stand by them and not let the media effect him. Same for Gainey. We have capable people behind the bench. a total of 7 Stanley Cups and most of them with the Habs. Lets put a little more confidence in a team that gave us 104 points in the regular season with the best powerplay in the league. At the end of the day I am proud to be a Montreal Canadien fan and no matter what happens Saturday, it will stay that way. Hell I was a fan in the bad years. If we lose on Saturday, I say the people in attendance at the Bella Centre should stand up and give an ovation to one of the most exciting teams in the NHL. Players win games, teams win championships. - Bill Taylor

You say people look for reasons to criticize Carbo, Gainey or any player they need to bash. It sounds like you are critical of fans who bash those you mention, but look at what you said in Dave Stubbs thread "On the brink: Day off for Canadiens". _____________________________________________________________________________ "Submitted by Corporate on Thu, 05/01/2008 - 09:28. Please stop it with the Ryder bull. No one knows what has happened in the dressing room with him. May be he pissed off the wrong people but let me tell you, he wasn't hungry during the year and he won't be hungry now. He has the shooter talent but it stops there. He has almost no defense skills and he tried this year to be a player he is not. A stickhandler." ______________________________________________________________________________ I don't think you are in any position to criticize others. You are like the pot calling the kettle black.

I was not criticising Ryder... I am simply saying we do not know what happened there and there isn't any reason to put Ryder in because to me anyways, he hasn't shown grit this year... It has been days that there are 2 types of posters. The ones that want Ryder and the ones that don't want Ryder. I was trying to put to rest all the posts out there... There are about 100 posts a day on how ryder should be in or not... As for my criticizing... I was not aiming at the ones that post their opinion but the ones that the minute the Canadiens win they Praise les glorieux as if they are god and the minute they lose they should all be traded. It is true there are some on here that are not like that.. Teacher, Ian Cobb and others give great insights on the game... Some others just criticise for the fact of criticizing... Players win games, teams win championships. - Bill Taylor

You say you weren't criticizing Ryder. I'd hate to hear what you would say if you were criticizing him, e.g., not hungry, pissed off somebody, almost no defence skills.

Only stating what I see on the ice. I have been consistent with all my comments regarding Ryder... Dating back to the middle of the year.. Won't change my opinion... You can not tell me he has played great this year on the ice... The only exception was the comeback night against the Rangers where he had 2 goals and a assist... Players win games, teams win championships. - Bill Taylor

Ed's picture
Sure you can criticize any player you want. I have no problem with that. It's just that you were critical of other fans for criticizing Gainey, Carbo & players. You can't have it both ways.

habsguy's picture
well you got me on that one there Mr Chase (courny 12) or whoever you are...LOLOLOL...you're a broken record, you keep saying the samethings OVER and OVER. And now your saying Gainey as a player isn't a REAL HAB.... Did you ever think they tried to trade Ryder but couldn't, maybe nobody wanted a broken down former 30 goal scorer. Did ya ever think thats all they could get for Huet, Oh I bet teams offered Gainey a first rounder but he said NO I only want a second rounder...Do you not think 23 yearold Gorges is an upgrade over 33 yearold Rivet plus we got a first rounder (Valentenko I think) to boot !!! Do you not like Hamerlik, he used Sourays salary to sign him...I like what Gaineys doing...And to think a so called Hab fan doesn't think he was a REAL hab LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL....

"Did you ever think they tried to trade Ryder but couldn't, maybe nobody wanted a broken down former 30 goal scorer." Remember that when he comes to town with his new team and smokes us like Leclair. Broken down, my ***.

habsgui - The 1st rounder was Max Pacioretty.

Smoke on the Hartnell goal: "... we were backchecking, we had no chance of getting him". bullsh*t, both he and his partner dogged it back. Komisarek is the worst interview on the whole team. Over 2 minutes and he manages to say nothing, gotta give him credit. Carbo says that there's nothing that he and his coaching staff can do differently to improve the Habs chances. I don't think so. Stop giving up the blue line and get some bodies infront of Biron. Dave, I hope that wasn't a Gazette staffer who asked Carbo if he'd decided who was going to be his Game 5 goalie, was it? It sounded a bit like Hickey to me.

Yeah man... what more can they do? They won the eastern conference and made it into the second round. What more do you want? A Cup?! Come on... that's way too much. What a silly thought.

I was being sarcastic about the eastern conference title, man :)

I agree with some of what you're saying -- but at the same time, you're looking at a team throwing 40 shots on net, hitting posts, having good saves made against them... It's cliche, but give the Habs another inch (or have Biron actually playing how he did the rest of this year) and we're talking about what a great job everyone is doing.

WindsorHab-10's picture
Shots on net are an overrated stat. It's not quantity but rather quality. Good things always happen when you shoot on net only when you have bodies in front of the net as we witnessed the 2 quick goals that Montreal scored. For this team to win Saturday and extend this series, they must go to the net. We're tired of saying it, the team preaches it all the time but rarely practice it.

Upset as we may be right now being down 3-1, we should never point the finger at the big guy in the front office. Gainey has a plan for this team and everyone that knows hockey knows that this team is a couple of years ahead of schedule. Losing sucks and always will, but for me this team has exceeded the expectations of many and are definitely heading in the right direction. Thank you Bob Gainey.

yea - bolster just like SJ or wash did - worke dout great for them right? 1) the huet trade was made for the ytears to coem as well - show price that he can be the man. huet would not have gotten the habs further than they are today. 2) ryder - ugh if you don't understand why he is still a hab then you are very far from being a GM. 3) totally agree. even during the year BG was not satisfied when the habs won 5 - 4. he knows defense wins cups. i'd like to think he tried or actually though we had the men to get it done. we have a good group of dmen but not great.

I know it's in vogue to advocate gutting the team after consecutive losses, but was anyone in favour of disrupting the core group of players when the team was firing on all cylinders? Of course hindsight is 20/20 and I suppose you're going to say that Gainey should have looked into his crystal ball to foretell that certain players would disappear in the playoffs. Yeesh. Until Gainey speaks out, we have no idea what he tried to do at the trade deadline. But maybe Gainey should look into acquiring a time machine to go along with his crystal ball. That way he'll have all of his bases covered.

"gillette didnt want to spend 2 years in a row." What a load of horse manure! For someone who "didnt want to spend", he sure spent a LOT...lets review, shall we (I'll even do the math for you!)... Markov (free agent) - 5.75 million (x 4 years) = 23 million Hamerlik (free agent) - 5.5 million (x 4 years) = 22 million Smolinski (free agent) - 2 million (x 1 year) = 2 million Kostopolous (free agent) - 900,000 (x 2 years) = 1.8 million Brisebois (free agent) - 700,000 (x 1 year) = .7 million 49.5 million, by someone who "didnt want to spend" sure strikes me as a lot of spending! Throw in the attempt to get Hossa at trade deadline time, and you get a very clear picture that this management team is prepared to spend (wisely, not foolishly, and not overpay). Look at the following website and note the number of RFAs coming up...more spending! Yes, some of them will be let go, to be replaced by new draftees and free agents. http://www.nhlscap.com/salarynumbers/montreal.htm Now, how about I include a couple of "facts of life" and "facts of economics".... 1. Gainey can dangle all the money in the world in front of a free agent, but he cant force that FA to come to Montreal...as the saying goes, "it takes 2 to tango", and FAs like Briere, Shanahan and others didn't want to tango. 2. The Montreal Canadiens are a BUSINESS, not a charity, and not something for your personal pleasure that must satisfy your every whim and desire. Every time a signing or trading decision is made, the money aspect ALWAYS factos into the decision. The team management must balance the $X coming in (seats, concessions, etc) with the $Y going out (salaries, rent, travel expenses, etc)...the objective is to make money, not lose it.

I think its time to play the 9 best/ most intense forwards and roll with 3 lines. Cut out the deadweight. Streit, A Kostitsyn, Kovalev -out

Please tell me you are not serious.

I think Carbo made a good point in his press conference -- what more can they do? How do you make adjustments to counter a goalie who has had something click for him? Biron is playing WAY over his head... all of a sudden he's a beast on breakaways... all of a sudden he's got x-ray vision and can see through screens... what do you tell your players to counter that? They put almost 40 shots on net -- they dominated a bulk of the game -- they looked possessed coming out of the gate - i thought it was going to be over in the 1st period - i was sure the Habs would put 3 or 4 in the back of the net in the first 10 minutes... but something has clicked for Biron, it's just unfortunate that it had to happen now... You should all be thankful that you don't live down here!! I can't explain the frustration coming in to work and seeing people who haven't talked about hockey all year, but all of a sudden it's "GO FLYERS GO!"... little flags and stickers everywhere... AUGH!

WindsorHab-10's picture
I say crash the net, interfere with him and do whatever it takes to throw him off his game even if it means a penalty. This guy is getting a free ride and it's time we tell him "NO MORE".

i feel for you, man. i live in boston and felt same deal in round 1. it's one of the reasons in this round i'm sedate - it's like i have post-traumatic stress disorder. we're here for you!

When you are facing a hot goalie you need another scoring line. Don't know if anyone listend to the interview with Philly coach last night...he says "we have three scoring lines producing"...he also mentions how the checking line is doing its job and drawing peanties. BRING BACK RYDER!!! LETS HAVE A THIRD SCORING LINE. I still think they will comeback. Lets go habs.

I agree on Ryder!!!!....does he have a dread disease?? Did he make a pass at Carbonneau's wife?? What did he do??? Surely he would be as much a goal scoring threat as Latrendresse (who probably should be in Hamilton anyway) or Dandeneault....among others. At least Ryder knows where the net is......... I don't think he is the modern version of The Rocket but he HAS scored goals. And MAYBE he could create some traffic in front of that career backup goaltender the Habs are making look like Terry Sawchuk. What is there to lose now, what with the season pretty well in the dumper anyway. Thanks Begin...................... Does it matter who plays goal Saturday........unless the Habs come to play, what real difference does it make? Dodger

Habster101's picture
Our problem is that first of all, Why isn't Ryder playing??? that is our biggest problem, we are having trouble scoring right?, well isn't Ryder a 30 goal scorer?, doesn't Ryder have a super sniper of a shot?,,, Ryder, would make a big difference in this series, take out SK, or Smolinsk... take out Breeze and insert OByrne put Koivu, Ryder and Higgs back together... put AK46 with PLekanec and Kovy again.... Latron should just be hitting and nothing else... Problem is, Philly is more experienced than we are... Montreal looks like they are panicing out their, struggling... we need Ryder out their to blast a few shots at Biron, Shake him up,,, all it takes is the first goal in this series to conquer a game, we haven't been able to lead,,,imagine Ryder snipering our first goal, the team wont look back... Please insert Ryder for game 5 he should have played tonight, we would have won...

piche's picture
I am as big a fan of Ryder as anyone and I would have liked to see him in every game this series... but Ryder sitting is not our biggest problem. I still want to see him in game 5 but he has got to be rusty. Kovalev has lead this team offensively all season both power play and 5 on 5. Every time he was on the ice we looked as though we could score. Now, teams are doing a good job of taking him out of the game. To make matters worse Biron is standing on his head... thus we have yet to take the lead in a game. When you are playing with a lead it is a lot easier to shut down the other teams top forwards. Philly has not needed to open up, pinch in, etc...
