Canadiens come away as winners

The Gazette's Pat Hickey writes in Sunday's paper that he considers the Canadiens winners coming away from the 2008 NHL entry draft, but it had little to do with the five players the team drafted.

It has more to do with the addition of Alex Tanguay and Bob Gainey's deal for the exclusive rights to negotiate with Mats Sundin.

Hickey also writes that you can forget about Teemu Selanne coming to Montreal, with Selanne's agent saying: "I can't see him moving."

So Hickey writes:

"And you can scratch those rumours that Teemu Selanne is headed this way to play with his good friend Saku Koivu.
Don Baizley, the agent who represents Koivu and Selanne, said yesterday he hasn't talked to Selanne for a few weeks and suggested the Finn isn't overly concerned about the July 1 free-agency deadline.
When asked if he could see Selanne playing for a team other than Anaheim, Baizley said: "Not really. He's pretty well settled out there. I can't see him moving."

I don't see these comments meaning that we can scratch those rumors - I would hate to get rid of idle speculation so early in the game!

I see the Baizley translation as:

THERE'S NO WAY TEEMU IS MOVING, DO YOU REALIZE HOW MUCH MONEY IT WOULD TAKE TO PRY HIM AWAY FROM HIS HOME IN ANAHEIM? OH, AND I'D GET 10% OF THAT MONEY SO I'M GOING TO KEEP PLAYING HARD-TO-GET.

I really wish Teemu would play one season with the Habs. I think we'd see yet another level to Saku's play if he had Teemu as a winger...
