Kristo could be a keeper for Habs

The Gazette's Pat Hickey reports from Ottawa that the Canadiens were pleased with the players they selected at the entry draft, with Trevor Timmins, the team's director of player personnel, being very optimistic.

"We had our list and we're happy with the players that we drafted," he said. "We think we hit some home runs and now we have to see how the players develop."

On Danny Kristo, the team's first pick, Timmins said: "He's a strong skater with excellent speed," comparing Kristo with Ottawa's Mike Fisher.

For more on Kristo and the rest of the Canadiens' draft picks, read the rest of Hickey's article here.

I liked Timmins' diplomatic answer when asked why the Habs did not select any players from the Q - we were picking at 25 in each round and the Q players we coveted were simply snatched up before we had a chance to select them.

Hate to agree with you Ian! But I have to. There are other teams that do the draft especially well (Detriot), paying just as much attention to hidden gems in the late rounds - a key strategy. But there's no doubt the Canadiens of recent years have had success and that Timmins' team with Gainey in the mix is one of the very best.

Was Carbo at the draft? I just realized I didn't see him at all....???

Carbo did not attend the draft as he had knee surgery done the day before.

Yes it could have been better planned :)

You love him don't you ;)

You're right - on both counts!

I don't know if he was there or not, I only had time to read on here what was going on. I had meetings myself yesterday in Kingston, Ottawa and late in Peterbourgh. I drove home to Belleville and hit the sack.

Long trip. Were you in Ottawa for the draft? Are you a secret Habs scout?? lol

With Timmins running player personnel and the likes of Vaughn Karpen who just happens to be the very best scout in the NHL along with many others on the habs payroll. I can assure you that with each pick, we take the very best player available that fits our program on the planet consitently, no matter where they come from.

Over the few short years that Bob Gainey has run our show, he has slowly and methodiclly built the next dynasty for us. Just be a little more patient, the cup will be ours soon, enjoy the process.
