So someone's gone and done it...

Photoshopped a Canadiens jersey on Mats Sundin. You'll find it with Hockey News blogger Ryan Dixon's post suggesting that the imminent UFA would be a perfect fit in Montreal.

It's not photoshopped! That's real.

Ex nihilo nihil fit

Sundin will be a UFA Tuesday. He isn't waffling. If the Habs are willing to part with 14 to 15 mil for 2 seasons, how much would the Rangers put up? They are probably not going to sign Jagr, freeing up that room. As usual, patience must be practiced, not foaming at the mouth demanding an answer right bleeping now.
Any way you slice it, Sundin's had a great career with a hapless team. If he figures he's done, well, who can argue with that? On the other hand, maybe he wants a shot at the Cup a la Ray Bourque and where better than here.
Freaking out over his decision not to leave Hogtown at the trade deadline is for laff fans, not us. Laffs management gave him the NTC and for them to flip flop is a typical Laffs management decision.
He is the piece we need to be contenders. A big D man like Orpick or Roscival would fit nicely, as well, but that blasted CAP gives the Habs barely room to maneuver.
Next Tuesday may tell the tale, but August 10- 20 could be just as likely.

how weird is that mats sundin wearing a habs jersey lol

That photoshop job is truly great...

... still, I have the worst feeling that Mats is still a Leaf in his heart, which will soon be made known to his mind, which will then be made known to Cliff Fletcher, which will then be made known to the media, which will then mean Mats is back in blue (not bleu) this season. I hope I'm wrong, I've always liked Sundin, no matter what colour he's wearing.

moser. I would not doubt it all, its all possible. Given that he wants to go down as the best TO player ever and treated like a GOD by media, fans and has escaped much of the criticism by the media he could end up back in TO...i would laugh so freakin hard. They deserve each other. Then we would know MATTS has never been interested in playing for a team that is close to winning the Cup.

He could wait to mid-season and he'll still have 20 or more suiters for his services.

Why should he be sensitive to anyone but his own family??

If a man speaks in a forest where no woman can hear him, is he still wrong?

Sundin's big cranial was photoshopped on top of Michael Ryder's body on that picture.

I would like the pick of him to be of him in more imposing picture, but all in all not a bad job... I am sure there was a lot of broken computer monitors in TO laff-land yesterday... and a collective laffinian screaming of NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Still brings Sundin no closer to being a Hab at this point. I've seen a 100's of cropped Lecavalier pictures drapped in Bleu-blanc-&-rouge, as flattering as they maybe... it doesn't make it real until he's signed.

The article compares this to the Frank Mahovolich situation. I am not convinced that winning the cup is Sundin's premier motivation. I think that might have been Frank's raison d'etre. When the trade deadline came and passed last year and Sundin refused to leave Toronto for a contender I think it said alot about the guy. Now he has an opportunity to play with an original six Canadian team which is on the rise and in storybook fashion going into its 100th year anniversary and focused on winning the Stanley Cup as the only measure of a succesful season. And Sundin is waffling. I don't want to crap on the guy but I am thinking he doesn't quite get it. This combination of events and history should motivate someone to want to be a part of it, no? Perhaps Mr. Dion needs to explain his green shift plan more clearly to Mats! (LOL) Because under the circumstances that is the only explanation for not wanting to be a part of what could very well be a very special year in the NHL.

Unlike the Sundin situation, Frank Mahovlich didn't have much of a say in coming to Montreal. The Red Wings traded him to unload salary. The Canadiens acquired him because Sam Pollock had secretly coveted him for a long time.

Didn't work out too bad for the Habs. Without him, I'm not sure that Montreal wins the 1971 cup, even though his contribution was overshadowed by Ken Dryden, the Al MacNeil/Henri Richard feud, and the retirement of Jean Beliveau. After all his 27 points led all in playoff scoring.

And even though Pollock had to do a little arm twisting I think the opportunity to play with his brother Pete was more of a concern than winning a Stanley Cup.

I mean the guy had four rings already to his resume, before joining the Habs.

Franks decision sounds more like the Niedermayer's decision more than anything.

Matts has to consider his wifes wishes as well that is likely the deciding factor. She/He may just decide the pressure in Mtl given the media and celebrations of 100yrs is not worth it.Its nothing personal thats what we will here when he bolts to the rangers for 8m a season...its just money folks for sundin since he is nearing the end of his career.

Arco~ Sundin has worked his ass off for a crappy team his whole career... He's been worshiped for years for his effort, he gets crusified in the press for not wanting to leave TO by the Media and then again then again now upon his departure... maybe he does have some animosity toward his former employers, and why not, they've seem to divert the state of the organization on him for making a choice not to be a rental and be traded as an asset. Why not leave on his own terms and test the market? You say waffling, maybe he is summizing where he feels he fits in best.

He knows the hype to going to Mtl, a place where next year, anything less than a cup would be a total failure... and,in turn, will view his acquistion in the same light. Eventhough it takes a team to win it, his play will be under the spotlight. Maybe he's starting to feel his age and does know if he's got enough gas in the tank to live up to these extrodinary expectations. MEDIA has hyped this matter into epic portions and as we all know fans are relentlous.

Nobody knows what Sundin's feelings are, his motivations, or ultimately what he is going to do but Sundin. Speculation driven from tid bits in the media or analysis will not give us a true picture, so I wouldn't draw conclusions until he determines what he's going to do. We're no more entitled to his services than the laffables. If he does want to be part of a historic moment then well move on just fine.

I think an athlete like Sundin should relish this challenge. I understand the pressure of playing in Montreal but I also think that a player of his calibre and experience should be able to handle it. He would not be the only go-to guy in the Habs lineup, which is the entire point to him not having to carry the team by himself. There is enough talent and leadership to spread the responsibility around. There is absolutely no sense of entitlement on my part to his services, and it's not like they're offering him a volunteer job here. The salary offer seems competitive. The situation is unique and frankly some guys never get a shot like this in their entire careers. I agree with you that we don't have the whole story, but I am just saying I question his motivation under these circumstances. I will not have any animosity if he decides the Rangers or Detroit are a better place to go, but I certainly won't understand the logic.
