scary to just imagine how they cause damage to other teams with crazy signings.
would does that mean komi is worth to the habs? Streit will never put up these numbers again?

I think there is another habsattack...one that does not have a space in between the two words.
Why do so many fans here attack those fans who dare criticize Bob Gainey? Bob has failed...again. If one is not successful in getting the player you have set out to get e.g. Mats Sundin then you've FAILED. Bob announced that he was going for an impact player at the trade deadline and came away with nothing. Bob announced that he as going for an impact player just before the entry draft and has nothing to show for it. Bob's has made the team better no doubt about that but, when it comes to this part of his job he needs to improve. Shanahan? Briere? (he's the one who brought Samsonov here right?).
Woah woah woah, Shanahan and Briere both didn't want to come to Montreal period. Gainey threw the kitchen sink at Briere and Shanahan wanted to stay in the states.
Who says hes failed? Hossas still out there, same for Sundin theres no frontrunner yet.
Our team is better than last year and needs a tweak.
How easily people forget we came in 1st.
briere..glad philly has him what was he -20 for the year.

Why are so many fans fools?
a) Gainey does not / did not want Sundin for 10 mil.
b) Ref the Habs getting nothing at the trade deadline: The big "hope" on this site was that they'd get Tanguay. Mission accomplished, for much less that they would have lost at the trade deadline.
c) Briere? Would you have paid that much?
Gainey has made one move today...and it is brilliant!
He is retaining a player who will be a star for years, and he got him at a great price.
He has not signed anybody, or overpaid for anyone to appease anyone.
Leadership, when it is done right, is not always loud.
the whole process sucks.frustrating to say the least. were all pissed because we are 1-2 players away from being a contender. we don't really have a packed team yet but we were hoping something big was going to happen right or wrong never materialized...what can ya do.
Tired of trying to reason with you.
You're just a f-n moron.

Please see below. I've already dismissed such ignorance.
By the way, they picked up Tanguay at the draft. So Gainey has indeed done something.
Additionally, the Habs are a young team that grew a year older, gained a year (and 2 playoff rounds) more experienced. I'm sure Gainey realizes this, if you do not.
Looks as if the Habs will be in the same boat as the last 2 years as far as free agents are concerned. Will probably end up signing players like smolinski and Kospo, solid 8 goal scorers. That from a team drawing 20T fans plus every game. Cant believe the teams that are outbidding them.
Based on the deals, most of the teams 'outbidding' everybody are desperate and for sure some of them are making BIG mistakes.
5 Million a year for Rolston for 4 years... if the guy decides to retire in two they're still on the hook for a cap hit all the way through.

They are "outbidding them" because they have the cap space to outbid them with. Look at the players the Habs will have to sign now, and in the next few years.
How would you like to be Komisarek's agent now? Fingers gets 3.5 mil from Toronto . . . how much would a league leader in hits and blocked shots make? 7 million? 8? 9?
Gainey has done well in not destroying the team for 2009-10, and beyond.
If Edmonton signs Hossa, I'm a monkey's uncle. I mean, seriously, it's Edmonton.
Hossa would be a decent pick-up, but the Habs really do need a center. Worth remembering that Marleau's no-trade kicked in today :(
What's all the panic for? Bob's trying to get Hossa as we speak and if he is not successful then he'll probably get back in the Sundin sweepstakes. And if no luck with that then i'm sure he'll make a trade for Marleau or Gaborik. Give him time, he's a genius not a magician. To those who call him down, you are lowlife idiots as he is one of the classiest and honourable gm's in the league.
amen! I can't wait to see tampa's firesale at next season's trading deadline.

If you look overall at what the Eastern Conference has done today, only Tampa and New Jersey have really done anything of interest. Within the division, Ottawa, Buffalo and Boston have done SFA today. The Leafs wasted money on Finger and Hagman (how Finger got more than Hagman I don't know) so we should still be able to take the division this year.
Tha Habs will be fine. To be honest, If Gainey does nothing else in terms of free agency, I'll be fine with it because there is no one out there worth the ridiculous money they'll want.
So far Bob has made the right decision's. These players being signed to huge contracts is pure insanity. We are a better team than last year anyways. If Mats wants to join the canucks for 20 million go ahead but he will still retire without a cup ring. I would be hapy to land Laroque but he will more than likley get a 12 year deal for 5.9 million per season with a bonus of 1 million for every fight he wins. Let this insanity end.......aaahhhhhh.
Good! I hope that means you'll get lost and let the rest of us fantasize in peace, without your BS diatribes!

You, my fine feathered friend, are an idiot.
You are exactly why Montreal has the impression among some as a poor city to play hockey: fans who are passionate, but ill-informed and maltempered.
The Habs have less than 10 mil to sign O'Byrne, Streit?, Ryder?, etc. or pluggers for the holes that they leave.
Do you suggest they spend that 10 mil on Sundin? Would you like to suit up on a Saturday night to take O'Byrne's spot?
I, for one, would not. The Habs locked up their most important RFA - AKost - for another 3 years (I would have liked to have seen longer). This was among the best - if not the best - signings in the league.
p.s. Is Habs Attack - in reality - John Ferguson Jr? Food for thought.
lol So many people getting angry. Some people need to relax.

You are the biggest loser on earth. I guess that means you're a Laffs fan right. I'd love to "give you the finger". All this bashing you do all day long yet when this team performs well again you'll be front and center to celebrate right? Actually, you're probably such a loser that even if we win the cup in say, a game 6 or 7, you'll be on here posting about how if Gainey would've wasted money going for a "big name" player we would've won it in 4!! I feel sorry for you cause this is the best Habs team we've seen in awhile and you can't even appreciate it. Actaully, I don't feel sorry for you I F*&%ING hate you for making me waste my time just to write this.
Did I mention you're a retarded loser??
I am disappointed. But at the other GMs that have lost their collective minds. I am pretty darn happy that the Habs managed a decent upgrade in their already talented group of forwards.

i'm not sure that rolston is a game breaker... a good player but not an impact player, if i recll properly Bob and the gang are after a 'impact' player... not a third line center !!! (imo)
in bob i trust ... until proven otherwise !!!
Go HABS Go
Hold on there buddy, what has he done to this team exactly??
He built us into a contender, a perennial contender, under him we have consistently gotten better.
he traded ribeiro away for nothing
(Addition by subtraction, nobody wanted Ribs in the locker room)
robidas and beauchemin disposed of
(Markov, Komisarek, Hamrlik, O Byrne not to mention th fram systm devloping McDonuagh Fischer, Weber, Valen, Subban, etc.)
ruined price by trading huet when he did
(How did he ruin him, he bettered him by giving him playoff exprience, wait a year or two before making such a statement)
wasted ryder could have traded him for a player or pick but ate him instead and didnt even use him
(We needed scoring depth in case of an injury in the playoffs, most we could'v gotten was a 5th or 6th round pick.)
(he did nothing at trade deadline last year or year before except dispose of rivets contract. he did nothing in free agency last 3 years in a row now)
He is not stupid, he will not trade too much for a rental, or pay too much to a UFA, he knows how to manage a cap, he is smart unlike you.
Submitted by The Teacher on Tue, 07/01/2008 - 19:21.
Do you forsee us missing the playoffs within the next 5-6 years?
How is he cheap, we've been near the cap every year and Gainey leaves room for strategical purporses.
This is still a young team and coach who will grow together into perennial contenders.

plan z is to not ruin a team by overpaying for decent veterans or not veterans at all(Finger). Didn't chicago do this once with zhammov, daze, and khabbi. I'm going to love to see how they will resign toewes and kane in a few years with all this money strapped for the long term.
campbell is gonna give their forwards a much needed kick, but with 20 million spent on 3 guys you know they're gonna have to give up some stars. kane, toews, sharp, huet, campbell... wait till the kids get new contracts.
About I grew up in Park Extension, within walking distance of Dickie Moore's Dairy Queen on Jean Talon. Moore had a place on L'Acadie Blvd., and we used to see him driving around in his convertible with a Samoyed and a very dishy wife.
While "studying" at McGill University during the 1960s, I used to attend games at the old Montreal Forum. My fellow undergraduate reprobates and I would scramble up the stairs to get centre-ice spots in the top standing room section, where aged ushers didn't know or care what we were smoking.
I stood out in the cold for six hours to get tickets to the 1975 New Year's Eve game between the Canadiens and Central Red Army. With the exception of the birth of my daughter, the 3-3 tie was the greatest event I've ever seen in my life.
The Canada-U.S. Gold medal game comes close .... but I wasn't there.
I've been a professional journalist since 1974, when I joined the Montreal Star sports department. I've covered the 1976 Olympic Games, the 1979 Expos, pop music and MSO tours of Europe and Asia (classical musicians are WAY more fun to drink with than athletes). I wrote a TV & Radio column for 20 years and, since 2000, have written a City column for The Gazette.
The best part of being a Habs Inside/Out contributor is attending games at the Bell Centre. I think it's a great building: noisy, raucous and packed to the rafters with Montrealers and visitors who live for hockey.
And I still get goosebumps every time Michel Lacroix booms out "Accueillons nos Canadiens ..."
Having seen the Boston Red Sox win two World Series and the Pittsburgh Steelers add a couple Super Bowl titles, I suppose I can die happy ... but not before another Stanley Cup parade. And I'd really like my daughter to see a historic New Year's Eve game.
I like all the players. Covering baseball gives me a profound appreciation of pro athletes who aren't jerks.
My weltanschauung was summarized by the late great Bill Hicks when he said "all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves."
Have a nice day.
