Freshly minted Canadien Georges Laraque spoke to a dozen or so Montreal hockey media this evening on a teleconference arranged by the hockey club, saying it will be his job to let the team's skill players do their job and not be run out of the arena.
Here, in its entirety, is the audio of the 23-minute bilingual session.
A couple of highlights in English:
• About 3:45 in, Laraque speaks at length about his 2003 comments about not wanting to play for the Canadiens;
• At about 19 minutes, he speaks candidly about having been able to take advantage of a Canadiens team last season that didn't have a heavyweight on its roster.
(Apologies for the sound quality; teleconferences are what they are...)
I'd like to see George play on Sak's line more often than not.
He should make Gui play alot bigger; I foresee a breakout for him(gui).
The team can now concentrate on their skills ,hard checking and let George take care of the extra curricular stuff.
I BLEED BLEU BLANC ET ROUGE!!!
Seems like I missed some drama. Who got banned?
Y - I have no idea but this is why I like to post early in the day before the grackles come out. Or should I say loons.
The Original 24 Cups
Missed that too, but how about playing a little Mutiny on the Bounty? I'll be the galley slave while you take over the ship :)
Sorry I'm not really into role-play unless it involves maid outfits.

He's already got a couple of suitors, the lucky boy!
Herb, Now they're fighting with each other. It's bloody sad!
I'm ashamed to admit it, but I've gotten quite a giggle out of the whole thing. I guess that little kid in me is still alive and well.
Geeeesh, somebody rent those two a room.
Goodnight Jim, thanks for the laugh... I'll have to dial up that page tomorrow to see how it turns out.
LMAO, too funny guys :)
Laraque will make them Pay the Price!
Is he????
Maybe he's shy and wont know what to do and pee his pants?
If Laraque was traded to the rangers, do you think they would have a press conference for him? NO! That's because NYR go after the big fish, unlike the habs, who go after guppies,(pinching pennies)like a minor league team. Reminds me of the expos, who developed players thru good drafting, and then when the player became very good, they couldn't afford him, traded him away, acting like a farm team for all the other teams, like the yankees.
Habs are the same because they refuse to spend alot of $$ to go get a superstar. They con the fans of Montreal into believing they're trying to get a star, but they never do, and that will never change.
Montreal will always operate like a farm team for teams like NY and Detroit.
Your a dumb a** idiot, shut the F' up idiot. As we don't care to read your ignorance CHUMP!!!
After I walk the dog, then have a beer, I'll explain to you everything that's wrong with your post.
:)

Laraque will make them Pay the Price!
stop your complaning and get a life
Hey buddy! long time no see. How have you been?
Laraque will make them Pay the Price!
I wish I was as happy as everyone for this deal.. but I'm not that happy over it... its not going to make us contenders.. and our biggest problem wasnt fighting away people..I dont think people will crash less on our goalies.. I dont think Laraque will be even used in the post season that often (Look at Penguines/Edmonton)
Its a minor minor deal.. and I'm glad it wasnt for anyhting over 2 mill but.. I guess we will wait and see?
3 years though.. damn. 2 years or one year I'd be fine with.
Not every one is over the moon about this one.
Then again about the postseason. BGL played 15 playoff games with Pitt and 15 when he was with the Oilers. Not every game but not bad.
This is perfect share half the games in the playoffs with kostopoulos.... you guys all remember kosto's performance in the playoffs... great one night and no where to be seen some others .... now if we alternate these two well be able to max the potential out of this positions... it all depends who our opponents are .... if we need speed then kosto if we need tough than laraque.... its a Judgment call ... Guy's got Judgment
Hello all, been reading from the sidelines the past few weeks; great stuff.
BGL is a solid signing, a player of limited talent, but enormous value, and he is someone who always plays with a lot of heart. His comments about manhandling the Habs were especially interesting, and I'm curious to see his impact on an already well-rounded team.
My two cents: to anyone who would criticise Gainey for being too conservative, I would say: lucky for us he is.
I agree. You know things are crazy and stupid when trading away first round picks is considered "conservative." That's verging on overly aggressive in my books.
LOL...a few of you guys have some "interesting" things to say over on faceoff.com (a sidebar on the Toronto Star sports pages). Take a look:
