Does anyone think Sundin will follow Jagr's path and play in the Russian league???

Submitted by Lee Hayes on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 13:34.
No...unless the Russian "super league" backs a dumptruck full of money into his driveway! In a sense this entire, "to play, or not to play" episode has been a real glimpse into the character of Matts. While I'm still willing to welcome him into the fold with open arms, I will hate and vilify him like no other if he pulls a cash grab with a non contender!

Is Boone or Stubbs heading out to the development camp today?

Mats must be drooling at the prospect of playing with all those additions for the Canucks , Mats is scratching his head saying who are these guys , a tad better than the laffs but just a tad.

Vancouver is going to suck and miss the playoffs with or without Mats Sundin. But there is the little matter of $20 million bones on the table. I guess what it boils down to is whether that enigma wrapped in a riddle, wrapped in bacon that is Mats Sundin wants to win or wants to add a bit more cash to the pile. As Monty Burns said of his fortune, "I'd trade it all for just a little more."

I agree, Vancouver is going to be real bad this year. Unless Luongo wins the Hart Trophy, they'll be near the bottom of the standings.

ANYONE who has been critical of Gainey for his "build from within" strategy should read this article. The Rangers, like a lot of teams are relying on the pick-up - at inflated salaries - of guys with big question marks hanging over their heads... I'd rather be us than be in THIS situation:
There will be a gust of fresh air next season but it's impossible to immediately judge what the wind blew in this week. Wade Redden had a bad year in a deteriorating environment in Ottawa and Markus Naslund had a disappointing season in Vancouver. The Rangers, who gave Redden a six-year deal at $6.5M per and Naslund a two-year deal at $4M per, are heavily invested in the theory that a change of scenery will revitalize careers that went stale.

The Morning Skate : Did Lightening Owners go off the Boyle? .. NHL Roundup .. by Stu Hackel .. New York Times ..... http://slapshot.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/the-morning-skate-lightning...

Intersting article. Sure seems to me like Boyle has a fair point. In the end he agreed only to be traded to Tampa. That's exactly what I would do! San Jose... gotta love it! But is anyone besides me wondering if the San Jose changes might not turn out so well? Shades of other deals gone bad they seem to have dumped good potential for Boyle, whose coming off that bizarre injury and then with the pick up of Blake, he'll be 39 by playoff season and was deep in the minus last year. Might work out great, but seems like a real gamble for a team that has the potential to take it all if they get the formula right.

good to see you two back (Lee and Robert that is!).
I have been abstaining from participation here at HIO for quite a while for the same reasons as y'all. But seeing old friends back, I think I'll rejoin the fray.
:-)
Looking forward to a good summer and a new season for the Habs.
BTW, will we have another summit this year (hopefully sans riff-raff)?
Cheers.

I'm happy to see old Owen sign anywhere.
Each season we lose some of our longest standing stars, and I hate seeing them go for all that they have meant to the game.
Jagr's overseas now. Sakic and Sundin could retire. Shanny is without a contract, and there's others as well.
I almost wish that there was a senior professional league that some of these guys could keep playing in.

Yeah, well I fell off the peace wagon once or twice(you out there LB Chase/Pat S/kitty kat?), but it's my nature to bring people together, not to alienate.
I just finished moving, so I'll be a force on this site again, albeit a little force.

Yeah, I somehow doubt he'll be attending the next summit, don't you find it funny how people from the same area can be so totally opposite? We met a couple of the most genuine and great Newfoundlander's that we could of in J.T. and Dave, and then as a counterpoint this latest bozo shows up and starts slingin' the you know what...takes all kinds!

People are different from everywhere. I can never generalize. I sat with a Leafs fan trucker from Moose Jaw over coffee two hours ago. One of the nicest guys and a Habs fan as well.
This Newfoundland dude really took stuff personally, but in some ways he asked for it. I'll bet he didn't think I'd post his e-mail!

Submitted by Lee Hayes on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 00:31.
Nope, I think he hadn't planned for that, or that joeybarrie would do likewise.
Your point about people being different no matter where their from sure is valid though.

Personally, I don't think that newfoundland dude looked for trouble. You guys weren't that nice, being insulting, and then the ganging up on him, and then get all huffy cause he got upset. Hope he comes back and doesnt think all us central canadians are all arseholes.

Submitted by Robert L on Mon, 07/07/2008 - 10:01.
I don't know man, he sure didn't like us clarifying his points. After I mentioned that the Habs won Cups 2 years after the retirement of Lafleur and the trading of Richer, he sent me two very rude e-mails.
Just before that, he called joeybarrie a sookie child, and sent him an e-mail as well. Lee Hayes got the worst e-mail, and I'm still trying to figure out what Lee did!
The Newfoundland dude had made some pretty outrageous statements and received a whole lot of negative feedback for them.
It's hard to accuse folks of ganging up purposely. Simultaeous comments from different areas of the country tend to appear that way, but are hardly intended as such. Several people with similar comments at the same time aren't planned.
Offering a different point of view or correcting a misleading notion is not an insult, but it seems to be how he took it.
If you personally don't believe he came looking for trouble, perhaps iniatially you are correct, but he sure had a way to attract it. Read his e-mails again. I don't think anything any of said deserved that reaction.
I'm sorry that you feel we were the cause of it all.

This is the Rolston replacement?
Can you tell that idiot Leipold from Nashville is now milking the profits from the team and giving Risebrough zippo on a budget to work with?
Hey Craig-o...sorry you're out that $10 million Boots stole err I mean borrowed from you but for the love of God, either pay the going rate or sell the team to Balsillie...
