Lecavalier signs extension

posted by Mike Boone at 8h41 EST on Jul 13

Nice deal: 11 years, $85 million, front-loaded.

Maybe Vincent Lecavalier can sign with the Canadiens when he's 40.

• Marc-Antoine Godin has a story on the eternally hopeful Mathieu "I'm the Other Matt Carle" Carle.

• Yvan Pedneault on Bob Gainey's summer and the ongoing pursuit of a Number One centre.

GRRRR...Have read on this site many times, from many of you that Vinnie will be a Hab. I did not want Vinny simply because he would not be the same player In a Hab jersey...too much pressure. He will always where number 4, so at least he will be part Hab. GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...

Blitzen's picture
Has anybody seen Hancock yet? Just wondering if it's any good. _____________________________________________________ Yes, I can help you find the Holy Grail!

Hey Vince, are you going to tell us the tune or are you going to leave us in suspense for the rest of the day?

Nelly- Hot in here, Domi requested it the second time. lol

DD's picture
I'm not familiar with that song. Did they slow dance to it?

It's hot in here, so take off all your clothes? Even I have heard that one. Laraque will make them Pay the Price!

I was tossed from a club for obliging Nelly. I was disappointed nobody took my cue!

Vancouver medias best line in weeks: "Unrestricted free agent Mats Sundin, pondering a $10-million-a-year offer from the Canucks the way we might ponder a toonie dropped in a dumpster -- should we reach in there when our wallet is full, or just keep our hands clean? -- would make Vancouver a lot better." Dang! Did he just call the 'Nucks a dumpster?

Chuck's picture
I once picked a toonie out of a toilet. And no, I'm not proud of it. __________________________________

Millions of Americans have or will have lost their homes in this bush league country - between Katrina, floods, the mortgage crisis and a myriad of other economic factors. Whether you are joking or not, there is no shame in doing what you need to do to in order to get by. The real shame is the mental midgets that ignore these issues. And YES! I do take this stuff both personally and seriously. I can't help it if I ooze snark in almost all aspects of my life. heh

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
reminds me of a Hunter S. Thompson story were he's on an airplane and the guy sitting next to him comes back from the toilet with one blue arm.

I gave in, I went to Tim's and got a soup and coffee. I'm eating the bun now.

DD's picture
I'm thinking of opening up a coffee shop called 'Doug Harvey's' I can see it now, the selling point would be; "Why buy coffee from a loser, when you can get it from a proven winner."

Funny but Harvey's.... someone is eventually want their hamburger to be "a beautiful thing"......watcha gonna do then.

Don't quote me on this, because I'll have to check with Chuck, PhD, MBA, President of Marketing, but I say we hire a John Ferguson look-a-like to handle any kind of disruption. Someone's tries to enter wearing leaf gear, they get the snot kicked out them. That should raise the class of the joint, ten fold.

Chuck's picture
We don't want to rought them up too bad. After all their money is as good as anyone else's. A good jerseying and a couple of quick stiff upper-cuts will do. __________________________________

xaverian001's picture
They're bound to come in and just throw money away too so I wouldn't kick them out. Although it could be bad for business when they overcrowd the place with a bunch of people who can't make a decision.

DD's picture
I knew I should have checked with you before I answered. It won't happen again.

Chuck's picture
Or... "We'll never run out of cups for our coffee." __________________________________

Be careful, they put herion or something in their coffee. I can't figure why else people would line up for that dishwater.

I was in Columbus, Ohio a number of years ago, and happened upon a Tim Horton's. It surprised me, because I hadn't figured that they had migrated that far south yet. I don't know what they were lacing their version of the brew with (coke, maybe?) but the locals were literally lined up out to the street waiting to get in. The folks at the Dunkin' Donuts next door were not amused. __________________________________

I thought since it was such a boring day I would share with you a story I've never posted on here. Ok so being a financial advisor during the day isn't exactly the most exciting occupation in the world, but being a nightclub dj has it's perks. 3 years ago I was djing at a local bar here in Hamilton when I felt a tap on my shoulder, I was thinking to myself somebody wants to request a song, as I turn around who do I see standing there.....Bryan McCabe, I still remember the song he asked for.....(Let's see if you guys can guess it)Anyways, standing behind McCabe was good old Tie, Mats, Eddie, and Tom Fitzgerald. Once it was known by ownership that these guys were in the bar, they pretty much owned it from that point on. Mats wanted to know how to spin records so he was in the dj booth and I was showing him how(I still remember yelling at him because he messed up the order of my records and me thinking to myself WTF? you just yelled at Mats Sundin) I have pictures of the whole night. What was my favourite part of the night?.....Me telling Mats I was a Habs fan. True story I also djed the Bulldogs Calder cup party... some more good pictures. These guys may make lots of dough but at the end of the day, they are just like you and I....Better at hockey tho.

ok, so I forgot my lunch and I'm gonna work through my lunch hour today. Actually, I just felt sick this morning and didn't bring it but now I'm hungry so I'm gonna work through my lunch so I can get home early and eat. I think I'll have pork chops, maybe a hamburger, I will most definitely drink a beer if its still humid out. I can't remember if it was this morning, but this would all be so much easier to do if he signed. So guys, DID HE SIGN YET?

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
I'm drinkng beer now.

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
You can open them just as easily with a spoon or a fork.

William_Holden_Is_Hot's picture
what kind of beer? I'm debating Keith's or McAuslan's pale ale. decisions, decisions, I know it won't take me months like you know who.

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
McAuslan's hands down.

William_Holden_Is_Hot's picture
yeah except I've been drinking it all summmer. Keith's is good as a change. The worst is when you go to the bar and the only *** you can drink without puking is Rickards.

Blitzen's picture
Just went to Sweden and spoke to Mats. He's narrowed his options to: a) play hockey; or b) retire _____________________________________________________ Yes, I can help you find the Holy Grail!

SmartDog's picture
That's an easy one. The hard decision is a) fork b) spoon ~Listen to the smart dog!

Connecticut Man1's picture
That is why I always keep a spork handy... Saves time on important decisions. If Mats signs here, I'll give him mine!

Wow have I been missing the boat....I'm headed to ebay for some sporks.

Slow day...so I'll share a very odd dream I had last night. I'm not sure what it means but I was working as a P.R. guy for the Canadiens (that part was sweet). I had organized a golf tourney and Mats accepted the invitation. We were walking down a hallway at the bell centre where everyone was meeting to get on a shuttle bus to the tourney. Mats was an early arrival and I said "so what's the deal Mats are you comin or not?". His reply was "noone has even made me an offer....maybe if they make make an offer....why do you think I have been waiting?". He then put his head down and walked over to a registration table of some sort. It was the weirdest dream I can remember. Not sure what it means ...any dream analysts out here in cyberspace???

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
Your heart says Sundin is Montreal bound but your head still can't really take the possibility seriously. I have the same problem, I can't stop thinking something will come up to slant the table the otherway. Like Briere and Shannahan. Although for the record I never though Briere would be a good fit for the Habs or vice-versa, he just be another speedy smurf getting knocked around by the McCabes and Hatchers. BUT NOW WE HAVE LARAQUE HAHAHAHAHA!!!

This is the worst time of year for Habs fans. Just sit around and wait for stuff to happen. I must come on this site 30-40 times a day to check. I think it's some sort of addiction.

Here's a sample from the canucks forums?: I'll start..... 1) Luongo to Montreal for Carey Price, Thomas Placanic and Chris Higgins or 2) Luongo for Heatley. Sign Emery. or 3) Bieksa and prospect for Patrick Marleau

Connecticut Man1's picture
1) Never going to happen. 2) If you want a major shakeup for both teams, it would make a bit of sense. But Vancouver is looking to build in front of Luongo. 3) Doubt it.

CrashTheNetCrashTheNet's picture
What can I say, canuck fans are crazy. Another thread was all about strategies to overpay there RFA's and then dump them in lopsided trades so the could meet the cap min. and go up in the draft.

I repeat - and thank god it is true - "In Bob we trust!" 'Cause they are talking insanity over there. heh

Connecticut Man1's picture
HMMMM? It has been a long time in between posts. Boone must be working on an epic piece titled "Bob Signed Mats!" Either that or he forgot to set the alarm clock?

Mr. Cobb, I set this up yesterday. If you would send an eMail to "connecticutman1 AT sbcglobal DOT net" I could send you an invite to use the place as "summit central" for everyone this year. Chuck said he was going to work on a different banner for the site but it is completely functional and ready to go if you want to use it.

Chuck's picture
The banner is ready to go. I'll email it to you to see what you think. __________________________________

That's ok. I was just messing with everyone since there was nothing to talk about. But there is always Mats Sundin news to be written if you have a sense of humor and a lot of time on your hands.

don't forget to hydrate while you're waiting

Connecticut Man1's picture
Does beer count as hydrating?

i'd say so

psst...I snuck on here from work, now someone please tell me DID HE SIGN YET??

SmartDog's picture
He said he'd sign but only if you stop asking. ~Listen to the smart dog!

Connecticut Man1's picture
If we all stop asking then all of the GMs are going to assume that our inside sources have told us that Sundin already signed. And then the GMs will try and stick it to BG while he tries to unload salary in the "tooth faerie" trade. (Sorry, couldn't resist a blEK reeference. There is nothing like spewing drug induced rumors into the internet vomitorium.)

William_Holden_Is_Hot's picture
ok...that's cool, I'mma go back to work now.

Rumor at Hockeybuzz.com this morning is that Sundin has already picked the Habs, however both parties are keeping it hush hush until MTL can clear up some cap space this week. http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=16215 With that said, theres no way this could be true now could it. :P
