Nolan gassed ... again

posted by Mike Boone at 16h57 EST on Jul 14

What is it with Ted Nolan?

He's been fired, with a year left on his contract, by the Islanders.

They're the team that finally hired Nolan after he'd been fired in Buffalo and out of the league for eight years – a long exile for a former Jack Adams Award winner.

So what is it?

Racism? Nolan is First Nations.

Inability to get along with his bosses? Nolan had problems with general manager John Muckler in Buffalo and, latterly, with Garth Snow on the Island.

Inability to handle star players? Dominic Hasek wanted him out of Buffalo.

Rumoured successor with the Islanders: Bob Hartley.

Typical of the league to try and make it hard on the union organizer by doing this. Thanks for the heads up.

Habs fan in SF's picture

again I'm leaving the last post of the night. Any montrealers who come out to San Francisco and I'll show you a good time. I thought I drank a lot until I moved here. So to let you know, I was wearing this zip up hoody sweartshirt I got in Montreal visiting my folks in Montreal last Xmas, you know in honour of Bastille day, and everytime I wear it I get someone passing me saying go habs go. In front of my Yankee friends, who are from Texas (Dallas) who think that the cowboys rule the world...well it makes me very proud they witness that. Until you live outside of montreal, you will never experience the respect that the CH brings. We are up there with the Yankees and Liverpool football club. When I go out and wear the CH somewhere other than Montreal and somebody respects that, makes me a proud montrealer and habs fan. Seriously, you guys in Montreal are spoiled. Understand that people outside of Montreal respect the habs. Go habs go!!

I remember in my travels when I was younger, on a greyhound bus across the US and stuff, it surprised me the amount of people that had never heard of Montreal (the city). I'm not even from Montreal, I just said Montreal because I figured I wouldn't have to answer the follow-up question: 'where is that exactly?'

FSLN's picture

Yeah, once you're outside Quebec there's no point saying anything other than Montreal. I'm from off island but have always said I was from Montreal.

Habs Fan in SF....thanks for sharing that. I'm happy to hear that you still can feel the pride so far from home. Keep doing us proud as a fan in Frisco. For your sake, why not have the Habs win the Cup next year on Western U.S. coast, just so you can be there when it happens!

Cheers!

"much ado about nothing"...that was alot of reading to finaly get to the last post. Kinda glad I decided to go to the pool tonight!
On a positive note, it's nice to see another "Summit" is coming together. I've already made arrangements to be in Ottawa from Oct. 8th- 20th. So it would be great if the dates for the games and summit fell inbetween there somewhere.

Go Habs Go

Make sure you give me a call, commie.

I plan on being in Montreal either the last weekend of Sept or the first of Oct. Hopefully I can get some rounds with other Habs I/O regulars. Hey Boone, how about working out a member discount for Super Sexe?

Connecticut Man1's picture

Whatever date is chosen will be right at the busiest time of election season, my busiest time of any year. I am crossing my fingers in the hopes that I can make it. Nightmare49 said the season schedules should be out midweek.

I'd also love to make it down to MTL for a summit. Gotta take in a Habs game at the Bell before I turn 30!

Robert L's picture

Give it your best shot, man, you gotta be there, it's worth the trip!

Chuck's picture

Wow... a lot of "love" on here tonight!

Just checked. You and smart dog are logged in and ready to go. Please don't post anything until we know exactly who is doing what. Controlled chaos is a good thing but herding cats is a whole other story.

Alright, I've stirred enough shit up for one day! I'm bye-bye for now. I'm writing a fricking book on the Habs for my site next fall, I should get back at it.

Stephen, I got your invite. I'll be sending something off to you soon.
