Number 17 in your program, number one in your heart

The Canadiens web site reports Georges Laraque will wear number 17 this season.

Laraque was number 27 in Phoenix and Pittsburgh, but that's taken in Montreal.

Laraque will become the Canadiens' 45th 17 and the first since Jason Ward in 2003-04.

Jean-Guy Talbot wore 17 the longest, 1954 to 1967. Rod Langway wore it from 1978 to 1982.

Other notables to have worn No. 17 include Ken Reardon, Phil Roberto, Larry Pleau, Murray Wilson, Craig Ludwig, John LeClair and Benoit Brunet. Guy  Lapointe wore it from 1968 to 1970 before becoming number 5.

Greatest 17 ever? Has to be Jean Beliveau, who wore it for the two games he played with the Habs in 1950-51.

Attention to all those who wish to attend the Summit!

I've just gotten off the phone with Ian, and he's rightfully concerned that some areas might be moving a little faster than others in setting this thing up.

For those who are involved in the organizing end of this, and wish to speak to Ian, his number is posted, and it is in the 613 area code. Please call him directly with your questions and concerns. Often we are all posting thoughts and ideas here in different places, and it is an impossible task to keep track of what was discussed, and by whom.

As Ian has taken charge of this for us, he would appeciate speaking directly to folks on important matters rather than having threads all over the place.

The first order of business for the group HAS TO BE the purchase of tickets. This is an extremely complicated endeavor to take on, as it involves a sum of money in the $3000 range. (50 tix at $60 per) Ian is willing to take this on in light of not getting answer from HabsChick on her offer to take on the job. If anyone is comfortable with these risks and responsabilities, and is willing to assist Ian with them, he is asking that you contact him as soon as possible.

The tickets could go on sale shorty, as the schedule will released any day now.

It will difficult to pick and choose dates for the event. The tickets need to be purchased quickly, as the demand is as always for Habs games. There may not be sufficient time to poll folks, as I suggested earlier, or cater to particular choices for when people can attend. We realize that not taking a consensus choice will not please certain people, but if we dither too much, the chance of having a summit at all this year will pass us by.

The remaining events of the day, are secondary concerns for now.

Once there is concrete news about tickets and a date, Connecticut Man1, Smart Dog, or myself will be posting the news and details at this site. Any official news shall be there, or directly linked to there from here.

The site's address is:

http://habssummit.blogspot.com/

To avoid any confusion, the HIO site and my Eyes On The Prize are only helping to spread the news on the summit, and are not official info stations for updates.

There will be more updates in the coming hours and days as to the ticket purchasing process as Ian informs us.

Once more, if anyone is able to lend their efforts to Mr. Cobb, please contact him.

I wonder what number Tangauy will wear?

If a man speaks in a forest where no woman can hear him, is he still wrong?

To answer your question about the man in the forest; Have you not heard of Mother Nature??? Women are everywhere!!! :(

The Teacher's picture

Nice! Great point. So his answer would be. Men are always wrong, and don't try to avoid it, cause you can't!

Laraque will make them Pay the Price!

Teacher

It is said that man has only one decision to make when he gets married. Does he want to be right or does he want to be happy?

Habtroll's picture

GRRR...happy? I think you mean content. Men who are married, like myself have to stray quite a bit from the man side. We are really half man/half woman. Kids are for marriage. No kids, don't get married.

GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...

The Teacher's picture

I'll remember that! Thanks ;)

Oh pardon me, I'm just being a shitster!

Hope it's not 81. 15 would look good on him.

He shoulda got #30

Robert L's picture

How did you feel about Turner Stevenson wearing it?

I think it should only go on a goalie's back myself.

Robert L's picture

Not as tough as Nilan, but then again, maybe only Fergie was tougher.

When Laraque beat Chara. You give him #30, yes.

Funny thing is, if you Google it, BGL shows up as an acronym in a dictionary for Big Georges Laraque
