The new Montreal Juniors may be losing their marquee attraction.
Angelo Esposito has signed a multi-year contract with the Atlanta Thrashers.
With junior eligibility left, however, Esposito will have to return to the Q unless he makes the Thrashers
• Ryan Miller will stay in Buffalo: five years, $31.25 million. There had been speculation the Michigan homeboy would join the Red Wings as a UFA next summer.

Yvon Pedneault out, Benoit Brunet in as Pierre Houde's analysis partner on RDS telecasts of Canadiens games.

"Basically, it came down to development," Max Pacioretty told The Gazette's Pat Hickey from his home in New Canaan, Conn. yesterday. "I think I developed in this past year better than I ever have before. It really helped me improve as a player and get to where I want to be as an NHL player some day."

Canucks general manager Mike Gillis thinks the 2010 Olympics will be an incentive for Mats Sundin to sign with Vancouver.
Gillis said that he was still confident that Sundin would accept the Canucks' two-year, $20 million contract and that the 2010 Winter Olympics would be a possible incentive to convince Sundin.
"What we have talked about is that if he (Sundin) were to play a couple more seasons, he would be the captain of the defending team in the Olympics in the town that he plays in, which we believe to be unprecedented, and may never be available to a player ever again."
Gillis told the Team 1040 in Vancover. "So we have talked about his captaincy of the Swedish Olympic team, but we haven't gone further than that at this point."

Just for fun, let's send Gary Bettman an e-mail asking for his help in getting a fortune out of Nigeria.
According to a report in The Tennessean, California-based Canadian entrepreneur Doug Bergeron said Boots Del Biaggio boasted that his financial statements never underwent the due diligence process that prospective NHL owners face.
Bettman should lose his job over L'affaire de Boots. (Among other reasons)
now i gotta stick a benoit brunet face over my pierre et yvon poster.
HIO: Special people, discussing a special team, in oh so special ways. (I just crack myself up. I have to grab another Belgian!)
Can we talk, or has this thread gone "special?"
GRRR....Brunet was a brutal player and he Is even a worse commentator. There must be more french candidates who could do better job than this clown, even Lebeau would do a better job, even though he didn't know much about the game either.
GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...
H trool - Now there's a new thread that you can penetrate , just giving you a heads up , oh little one.
GRRR...This Is totally off topic, but I know a few people who have been kicked off this site for saying a lot less than some people(scroll down)...
My Interpretation Is this; Politics Is running ramped on this site or there Is a hell of a lot of Bullshit politics on this site. I could see this BS happening to other teams sites, but not my Habs. I'm happy my boys at least got better licks In.
GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...
The word is "rampant", not ramped. If you're going the pee vinegar, at least say what you mean.
My other pet peeve is "would of." It's "would have".
Gilbert
2008/09 is the season of the Habs
At least no one has to ask you if you are a troll.
GRRR....You got that right. I'm not really a troll, I am a person who hates Bs and speaks the truth...example Sportscasts In this country were saying Canada has a good chance to win the gold medal In Basketball, That Is severe BS seeing that they can't even qualify. I hate that BS propaganda with a passion and It happens a lot on this site...sometimes, so I tell It like It Is, or like It will be In my opinion, of course.
GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...
It's funny that you never finished after here's why...
I hope I don't have many things to add after that this year, but probably I will, that's If I can last that long.
GRRR....Habs Rule.....sometimes suck. GRRRRR...here's why...
You can always change your identity again if it gets to be too much for you.
What, no reply?
Some trolls have to be in bed before 8pm, I guess.

alright i'm pretty sure mats sundin would rather win a cup than would be the captain of the defending team in the Olympics in the town that he plays in....
who the hell cares about that.. if he goes with the canucks its oudvious hes doing it for the money cause they aint winning anything besides last place in their conference
Lol, too true. The 2010 Olympics an incentive? Right...that's nearly an Eklund calibre rumour.

"Yvon Pedneault out, Benoit Brunet in" ????
I can't stand Brunet... I always flip channels during the intermission when it's him and Jacques Demers.
How Mike Gillis's is putting Canuck fans into the 5 stages of grieving...
RDS wont be re-hiring Yvon Pedneault .... wow THATS some good news, TO ME a Sundin signing would be pale news in comparaison to that one .... I still cant believe that I will be able to follow my CH Yvon Pedneault free.
Now RDS can go further, has JIM M pointed out earlier and an added focus on the pre-game atmosphere and the displays of the National Anthems would be a good place to start ... not being late on face-offs is another of his recommentations and a shamefull flaw on their part to be shure ... which lead to another fundamental one when Pierre Houde evades his role as a play by play descriptor to fall into his monologue non-sens mode while the play is actually on.
Many other improvements could be made but if RDS just switch the attention of the viewers away from themselves and more towards the spectacle, the fans and the game itself ... all would be falling into place.
But lets face it .. replacing game analyst Pedneault by a soft spoken voice and true NHL player like Benoit Brunet is the best single change they could have made to flash upgrade their presentation into a better one .... bravo.
Bouleau Noir
I think Pedneault was a distraction to Pierre Houde and that led to too much conversation when the play was going on. Pedneault seemed to think that people were tuning in to listen to him and not the game. Benoit is a great addition.
Absolutely as you describe it Jim M..... I guess Pedneault's journalistic NHL hall of famer status must have blurred RDS's big picture of what good covering of our CH should be all about..... no longuer.
You guys are quite right but it was still better than watching that Toronto group.
Ian
After you've seen and heard Gallivan call a game, everyone else is second-rate.
Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin have been among the best hockey broadcasters ever, maybe the best tandem ever in sportscasting, and yes, I can still remember Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese for the Yankees on WPTZ 5 Plattsburgh even before we got a big aerial in Beaconsfield (we used to put steel wool on the mini-ears and play with their positioning). On the Yankee Saturday afternoons, Bird Birdan your Atlantic Weatherman would rule. Later on, it was all about Esso.........
When I was just a kid in St. Laurent in grade one at Cedarcrest School, Danny did one of those nights and I was with my Dad and got to ask him(well, Danny) who had the hardest shot in the NHL. This would have been around 1959, and I would have been close on 7. He said Boom-boom.
The next time I asked a question to one of the team was to push Mr. Irvin to move his butt in Pte Claire Village because I wanted the paper and a packet of cigs. Never mind.
I grew up with Danny Gallivan's voice in my head, and all the best teams ever.
Go boys.
Jim: I have an original copy of the 1975 New Year's Eve game against the Central Red Army, commercials and all, want me to forward it. I know I'm dating myself, but Farrah Fawcett was a fox!
Brian
I got a copy but thanks anyways. Best game I ever saw in my life. That final score was not indicative of the play.
You missed a good show on here earlier. DD was in fine form. It's very quiet tonight. What are you doing besides throwing back some Belgians?
You're spot on. Tretiak stood on his head tat evening, but you knew that that Habs team was on the verge of greatness. I know he sucked as coach, but I loved Mario Trembley as a player. And, what about Murray Wilson with the well-groomed hair?
Just looking over some of the crap I wrote last night. After 12 years of Catholic education, for some bullshit reason, I still feel badly the day after when I have pissed on some the night before whether they deserved it or not. I may not make it to Heaven, I am very realistic about my prospects in that regard, but I am shooting for Purgatory. They say it only has an up escalator.
Brian
I hear it's a long escalator though.
This is one area where length doesn't matter, it's all about direction!
