No Sundin news!

Not a word about Mats Sundin this fine Saturday morning. Guaranteed.

Instead, La Presse blogger Stéphane Laporte wonders about chemistry on RDS's Canadiens broadcasts now that Benoit Brunet is replacing Yvan Pedneault.

Also in La Presse, Marc-Antoine Godin analyzes the Canadiens' schedule.

And Sports Illustrated's Allen Muir lists his must-see games of 2008-'09, including:

Jan. 25: All-Star Game in Montreal -- If the Habs don't win the Cup,
this game could be the highlight of their centennial celebrations. No
team has done a better job of maintaining links to its glorious past,
so expect them to put on an impressive show.
Apr. 11: Pittsburgh at Montreal -- A preview of the Eastern Conference Finals? Could be.

• At Hockeybuzz.com, Eric Engels answers interesting questions about the Canadiens.

• Chicago has named Jonathan Toews captain. And the Blackhawks will retire number 3 to honour Pierre Pilote and Keith Magnuson.

• The key to success in the salary cap NHL: lock up your young talent. A radio station in Edmonton says the Flyers have signed Joffrey Lupul to a four-year contract.

Hey Ian ow r u doing? I am wondering if the date of the summit is confirmed enough to book flights?

Ian G Cobb's picture

Leo G--Just hang on for a short time Leo. When Vicky calls me and confirms that booking of game tickets can start. Then there will be comfort in booking non refundable flights. But I am 98% positive that there will not be a problem. Ian

Thanks Ian , I am looking forward to seeing you all there again.

Ian,

I can't be there for the festivities . . . I'll be on tour in Afghanistan.

However, I'd like to contact you about setting up some sort of a fund for those who might make the game. I'd be the first contributor.

You can contact me at rossbonnell@hotmail.com

Thanks,

-R.

Thanks for representing us, and Godspeed.

Infanteer, I;m not sure what you have in mind but I will contact you. Proud of you wearing the uniform for me and be safe over there.

I just had a thought; look at Boone's first line, "Not a word about Mats Sundin this fine Saturday morning. Guaranteed."
.GUARANTEED.?
What a strange thing to say on a Saturday... unless you knew something...

Infanteer's picture

Boone knows that Sat AM is not prime-time, 7 million dollar deals.

Perhaps we could all learn a thing from Boone, and not visit this site so often. Present company excluded, of course.

twocents's picture

I don't know, things happen on Saturday. I posted that thought as much for fun as anything but, I honestly think 'guaranteed' is an odd word for a journalist to use.

Hehehe. You're still thinking about it I see ;)

Now I am thinking about that.

Far from definitive but this Swedish paper seems to think that Mats is going to Vancouver (at least I think that's what it says, google translate is to translation what McDonalds is to Haute Cuisine)

http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl=en&sl=sv&tl=en&u=http://www.dn.se/D...

Man I wish he would make up his mind already...

i just can't see MS in a HABS unifrom. to much history between us and the LAFFS. if money is all he wants he is going to Vancouver and if he wants to retire he will do so in a laffs uniform.

My few cents from the peanut gallery:

(1) I got an email from a couple other members of this site who I respect a great deal who have visited here as long as I have. And the sad thing is that they are going to take a sabbatical because of all the petty nonsense and bickering going on. To me that ruins the experience.

(2) One could say if you don't like the comments don't read them. Fair point. But a lot of us come here precisely to read not only the articles but also the comments because there are a lot of knowledgeable and passionate Habs fans out there who we enjoy interacting with.

(3) Knowledge or expertise is a funny thing. I don't think a person who has been here since the site launched last year has any more expertise than someone who started yesterday. Same goes for a fan who has supported the team since the 1950's versus another who supported the team as of last year. Everyone has an opinion and a perspective. You don't have to agree with it but respect it like you would like your own to be.

(4) If you don't agree with someone that is fine. You can disagree. In fact please do so otherwise this place would be like an echo chamber. I like it when others disagree with me because it makes me remove my blinders. Just do it in a dignified manner without resorting to insults, swearing, physical threats and other childish types of behavior.

(5) I'm not going to finger point at anyone right now because you know the adage. Point one finger at someone else and there are three more (of your own) pointed right back at you.

(6) There are going to be some who will always look to stir things up for no other reason that generating conflict. Don't take bait. Take the high road. (As hard as that may be as I personally know.) If something is truly offensive flag it as such. The site administrators are pretty fair and even-handed on judging things.

(7) Perhaps we all have too much time on our hands right now until the season gets started. Then we will all have a common enemy (whoever the Habs play next) versus turning on each other in petty squabbles.

(8) We have much to look forward to this 100th season. A young team with a chance to win. An upcoming fan summit. And another season of highs and lows to enjoy together.

(9) Remember CH stands for Character and Champion. That doesn't just apply to those on the ice but to the fans as well. Conduct yourself accordingly.

(I'll get off my soap-box now. I appreciate you hearing me out.)

Good post but I'm willing to bet that it'll get much better once there is real news to talk about.

As usual the Big Bird comes through again. Nice job my friend.

This soap box moment is greatly appreciated as well!

I make a motion that it be posted in whole on the sidebar as a constant reminder. I disagree with a lot of my favorite folks here all the times. I know that if I had this on the periphery of my right eye, it would help smoothen out some wrinkles at times.

Thanks Big Bird, for taking the time, and for caring!

twocents's picture

Thanks Big Bird. I haven't been around here very long and have no other message board experience but, I think this is a great site and it's sad to see it deteriorate. I hope the members you refer to are not lost indefinitely.

nice post.
